I found this one all right. Not amazing, but not bad. And I found the new ideas to be solid -- they just needed some further tweaking. (For example, I liked that you couldn't cheese the bosses like in most Sonic games, but several of the bosses have "attack phases" that last far too long.) Maybe there'll be a sequel that fixes the issues. I'm mainly just glad they finally got something close to classic 2D physics again.
Worth noting that if you beat this game and get all the emeralds, you unlock a hard mode and a new playable character (the true OP character). Those looking for a challenge will find it in that second campaign.
