- Kajagoogoo are a British new wave band, best known for their 1983 hit single "Too Shy", which reached No. 1 in the UK Singles Chart, and in the Top 10 in numerous other countries.
'The Lion's Mouth' is a single that reached #25 in the UK charts and was taken from the album 'Islands'. Bassist Nick Beggs is vocalist on this video replacing singer Limahl (Christopher Hamill) as he left the band in mid 1983.

Why underrated? He plays with Steven Wilson, one of the most technical and creative band in the world.

Not a patch on the late great Cliff Burton, Steve Harris or Geddy Lee
If this song was released in year 2015 to 2020 it will be an instant hit. This track was ahead of it's time with its instrumental sounds layering . Strong vocals.

Nick gave a completely different sound and image. And many dropped away from the band. But the folk who were into the whole band, and not just the cute singer and cute song, remained with them.
Then Kaja happened...

They're really talented artists, and sorely underrated as an overall band. Limahl made them a gimmick, and it's unfortunate audiences weren't able to see past the "image" of him in the lead enough to appreciate the talent involved. Nick is an enigmatic leader, a great singer and bassist and I love ISLANDS!

I'm liking this song, and the band is tight and talented.
Very amusing to see the Limahl vs. Nick chatter (some people firmly in one camp or the other...me, I'm in both). IMHO I think this video (as far as those I've seen so far) is peak young Nick adorableness in this comfy casual look (what a cuddly cutiepie!). Not only is he handsome, but also a good singer and very good bass player. As of late he's still a looker (so stylin' in his kilts/skirts/skilts), and more talented than ever. And if you manage to come across his phone conversatons with telemarkers, you'd see he's also a very clever, jocular fellow as well. ❤☮🌎

They had very good songs on their second album. And Nick Beggs is actually a very good singer and charming. I liked the new line up then. But the public didn't buy it without Limahl and the band just died. Huge mistake to fire Limahl (who was devastated ).

Los sonidos de los 80 son incomparables. Los sintetizadores hicieron posible la mejor música del siglo, una huella inconfundible que captamos más claramente hoy ante la carencia de humanidad en la música actual, obscena, decadente y vacía. La música urbana ha deshumanizado el arte, ha convertido al hombre en un simple animal en celo perpetuo, un primate copulador cuya existencia no tiene otros objetivos que ir en pos de un objeto sexual para gratificarse. Al deplorable derrumbe de las letras le acompaña la ausencia casi total de talento de los arreglistas e intérpretes. Supongo que la humanidad ya está lista para desparecer porque ya han encontrado el soundtrack perfecto para su despedida de la existencia, y qué mejor forma de hacerlo /parecen creer ellos/ que fornicando como irracionales al ritmo de artistas ineptos. Kajagoogoo presenta un botón de muestra de la claridad de ideas y genio creativo de los artistas pop de la penúltima década del siglo XX. Solo mucho talento y aún más trabajo permitieron la concepción de piezas musicales de encanto inagotable. Ahora me da risa leer lo que escribieron algunos críticos de esa época de las canciones que no les gustaban (algunas son puras estupideces). Si aún viven y pueden escuchar la música de hoy se estarán tragando sus palabras y bebiendo harta cicuta.
This is far from something I'd run out & buy but the band did have some classics that were well done.

Limahl did not leave, the band fired him, which was a bad move. The success they had with him, went straight down the tube afterwards.

Kajagoogoo has totally changed it style of make music after Limahl has joined it. I rather before he, but the two eras was great
Personally, I feel that Nick Beggs kicked out Limahl bc of the fact that he had backstage and Limahl had center stage, and also Limahl’s style.

Absolutely brilliant. Very underestimated band. Better of without self centred , egotistical Limahl. These guys are good musicians. Pity they never hung around. Beat is brill.
i suggest you watch the VH1 Band reunited series. Maybe you can watch it to hear some actual facts from the band members, so you can finally stop blaming Limahl. And i personally like them more without him.
