I thought the exact same thing...anybody who actually inquires about mpg shouldn't be doing a swap...ever! My v8 yj gets 10mpg and damn proud of it. Also sick of people saying, "your time is worth money". Of coarse it is if you're doing for someone else. If it's for your own project, it's considered a hobby and a labor of love. Love it when people make their things and do their own work. Great job on the swap! I guessed $14k
Ok before I finish watching I just want to compliment you on how good it looked when you popped the hood! Super clean and doesn’t look like a hack job. Very well done Ben.
Lol. People who say “is your time not worth anything” are a joke. Yes, it is. It’s worth the end product for half the price. My time is essentially worth the $15,000 more it would cost to pay someone else to do it. Instead, I get the knowledge and pride to say I did it myself. Wayy better than paying someone else to do it.
Lmaoo I do the same thing all the time lol... Heck, I was looking up mounted jacks, rim and tire packages, light bars, and even after market guage cluster replacements long before I even purchased my jeep 😂. Now I finally bought the Jeep and I'm about half way there as far as completing the build I want. But it's always fun to find new future mods. Even if some of the more expensive ones like this video are only a dream now, dreams become reality! Nothing wrong with dreaming haha!
I actually live about 10 miles away from Todds shop at Jeep Speed Shop. There arent many places I can take my jeep and know for a fact he wont bull shit you, he helped me with the most baffling steering issue at no cost. Ordered me the parts at cost to him and let me drive his 6.4 hemi jeep. lol. Stand up dude. And great videos man. This was an awesome series, its pretty unreal how places ask no less than 30k
I did a swap and installed a 5.7 Hemi. Which is more than enough my 2011 Jeep Wrangler Sport 2 door hardtop (Dark Hunter Green). No lift, but on 34 black fuel quake blackout wheels. Exhaust is a cut down Borla. She only has 34k miles on the motor and transmission.

Thanks for the videos and sharing your swap with us, much appreciated.
I swapped out the straight six in my 1981 CJ8 Jeep Scrambler for a 430HP LS3 hooked to a built 700R4, Dana 300 transfer case, and a Dynatrac Dana 60 posi rear-end. I put a Dynatrac 44 up front, and topped it off with a Lokar floor shifter, and a full Corsa SS exhaust. New advanced frameworks box frame, all new body kit, 4" lift, lots of chrome, all new corvette red paint, hardwood rear floor. A labor of love, and I got back 40 cents on the dollar when I sold it after 9 years. I think I only reused the VIN plate and some plastic ducting. Still... I would do it again.
Going from a 3.8L to a 6.4L Hemi is a big upgrade. I’m sure you’re gas mileage actually went up, when you’re not nailing down the gas pedal. The 8 speed transmission is a big upgrade too.

We own a 2017 and a 2019, my 17 is a 5 speed, my wifes 19 is an 8 speed. The 8 speed is an absolute game changer in how the jeeps drive. My rubicon has lower gearing but her 8 speed will outrun mine all day long without breaking a sweat. Now I just need to V8 swap mine so I can have the 8 speed lol, being disabled that will never happen. I can't even afford to put a new windshield in mine now, let alone lift it and engine swap it.

Man something you should've mentioned in this video is the value of this jeep went up as much as what you just put into it. It went from a 25k-30kish jeep to a 40k-45kish jeep. Great job and video series. It gave me an ichy finger on the hemi trigger.
Unfortunately it doesn't work like that most of the time. You never get the money back that you put into your project. It would be worth a bit more if a well known shop did it vs a guy in his garage did it. It's a sweet project but you should never modify you car expecting it to gain value. Only worth doing it for the experience building it and the fun of driving it.
@@keshmo12 trust me I've spent lots of money on rigs that at the end of the day could only sell for 5k to 10k dollars. But, go try to price a 1 ton swapped and v8 swapped jk and you won't find one under 35k. He just did a 30k job for 15k he could get that money back easy.
The Flowtech shorty headers fit with the flanges rewelded. The ones for the 1500 5.7! Not sure about your engine mounts though as i am using custom ones! But they clear the shock mounts and frame.
I love my manual in mine. Feel makes off roading lot easier over automatic as can chose how much power is being put down for best traction and control.
HP Tuners is a good option to modify your tune. You can log your existing tune and modify it yourself, or email it to a professional for a custom tune. It also lets you change the easy stuff like tire size and gear ratio. The upside is you can also use it on multiple vehicles, multiple manufacturers, etc. The downside is it’s a little pricey. But with a stock tune you’re leaving a lot of hp and torque on the table, and it sounds like you need some tweaks to your existing tune anyway.
Used jeep 25k Axles. 11k Hemi swap 15k Wheels tires lift 10k. = 61k Don't get me wrong awesome job and good for you. I thinks it's beyond awesome you did it. The time I'd have to spend to build and put it together plus tools and time last to come up with the money to do all this....... it's better for me to just trade my truck in and get the wrangler 392 plus have the warranty if and when something goes wrong.
What an incredible build!! 392 badge at the bottom of the front fenders??!!! I don’t think that’s a lot for a custom built rig... maybe 🤔 a total price on the entire Jeep build? Everything you’ve done!!??!!
my 3.8 JKU has a ripp supercharger and am sitting at 46K mileage without a single issue. those who blow up their supercharged V6 must be treating it like a sports car at the quarter mile track and romping the go pedal at every stoplight. I don't doubt the durability of the V8 but a $6k supercharger was much easier to save for compared to a $25-30k motor swap.
5:38 gears wow that's cool I thought 5:13 gears were about as high as it goes My Jeep still has a stock 321 years in it awful but I have a tune on my Venus RV6 and I'm pumping out 328 horsepower and close to 300lb of torque but you probably have 470 to almost 500 lb toward astonishing
An older 5.7 block with whatever internals desired, eagle heads and a truck intake would be wicked too. Could also stay manual with some of the adapters out there, with an SRT/6speed bellhousing- or whatever really- there's actually some good options for the Hemi. Given the cost of a 392 factory jeep (which has a lot of extra cool stuff for sure) I am always surprised this swap isn't more common. Given the cost of the swap electronics- why not go full standalone? I assume the transmission- but there are solutions for that as well that are also tunable. BMW guys are running them in some cool swaps. Also amazed how many people will start a swap but aren't willing to make their own/repurpose junkyard stuff to keep costs reasonable. The Miata community is a perfect example. It's easy to spend $30k on a swap, but plenty of folks have done them DIY for 2-3k as a starting point. If you don't exceed 250-300hp (which is plenty) then the rest of the factory stuff can be replaced slowly as you go. Makes modern 4 cylinders (Toyota 2AR is my plan I think- should bolt to some cheap, smaller 4cyl Tacoma 5 speeds, requiring only a custom D/S, reuse the rear end, where a lot of cost can come from. Would prefer ITB 1UZ, but alas they are not as cheap and plentiful as they used to be- and the 2AR will nearly compete for power with much less complexity.) and stuff like the 1UZ just perfect for it. But LSX and all the sudden you built a half ass Cobra that... could have just been a FF 65 coupe or Roadster and end up in a similar spot, without throwing half a car away.
Before I start back watching after this add. I’d like to say that ls and just about all other Chevy motors have a plethora of parts available and they aren’t going away anytime soon. Just as well as mopar parts. So that reason for not going ls is out.
I’m talking about the canbus modules, I’ve known 4 people who have malfunctions and either had to upgrade to a new part, or wait months for one to get back in stock. LS swaps in jks require parts that aren’t available at any dealership.
That's crazy on the Ripp's.. Knock on wood, I haven't had a lick of issues out of my v2's (literally knocking on wood right now) and I have probably put 5k miles on them so far.
I'm 16 and I removed and installed myself our front fox 2.0 on 08 jk 4d 35's after taking them to get rebuilt I thought I did a hack of a job but your over the top keep it up!
I'm so glad I found your chanel. Before I go to your other videos I had a few questions that you may know the answers for. 1- Disregarding price, should I go 5.7 or 6.4 in a JK. 2- I really love a manual trans (have the 3.8l with a 6 speed) but if the 8 speed is leaps better I may give in. And last 3- Would you suggest finding used 1 ton axles or just buy new? Thanks!!
The only thing your garage and my garage seem to have in common is the stock cats laying around in the background. LOL! I still haven't decided what to do with the old exhaust/cats after I installed long tube headers. LOL!
First off… thanks for making this series. Secondly….. awesome, awesome, AWESOME! By any chance are you going to the Great Smokey Mountain Jeep Invasion in Pigeon Forge TN? I really wanna see this up close.
Thanks for an awesome video series on the swap...looking at your parts list and links...might consider a different fuel line material if running ethanol blend...CPE might not last, PTFE would be best. Sorry I let my engineering child out. Now to find that crowbar for my wallet.
Great videos as always! I'm playing with this idea as well I have a 2017 JKU Rubicon (auto Transmission). I am interested in just doing the 5.7 Hemi if I were to try this. As far as transmission I would just need to replace bell housing and Torque convertor you mentioned, additionally I'm still running the Dana 44's with 4:88 gears, would this be an issue with this engine, and would an axle swap be required as well to handle the extra power/torque? Thanks Great video!
Excellent video Ben. You mentioned an issue with the TCM in the trans and the computer on the engine. I'm doing a 5.7L, Todd and Liz know that. My TCM is with them being reflashed. Is it a different flash for the 5.7L...or is it the same as the 6.4L? I'll have to ask them and see. I'd like to prevent the issue you saw with accelerating.
Great info Ben, I absolutely love knowing these details. Well done If anyone is interested I'm $12500 into my 6.2 LS, 6l80e, MoTech Kit. Was done 3 years ago, I'm sure it's a little more experience these days.
Hey man love ur videos , very informative !! I have a 2010 also , 4inch on 35s , ive installed tuner , intake and exhaust which helped a little . I don't have that kind of money for a swap , but do u think by re-gearing to 4:88 or possibly 5:13 that would help me hold 75 - 80mph on the highway ?? Thanks !
You have been so good to answer questions, please answer 2 more :-) 1) I recently put a PSC Hydro Assist with the new PSC pump and the Big Bore. I have been told that this will work. Will it? also 2) does the Jeep Speed shop offer a full kit minus the engine and transmission? BIG THANKS!
@@JKGearandGadgets seriously you rock! Thanks again man! So I’m a little confused, if I buy a new 8 speed transmission, I can still use my axles with the 5.13 gear ratio? When I go to order it gives other gear ratios? Thanks so so much!!!!!
Ok I realize that is a dumb question, but I want to make sure I order the correct tranny, those aren't cheap. Will my Adams 1350 driveshafts be ok? Thanks a million!
Thank you so much first I left the original 2015 transmission then it wouldn’t run Couldn’t get it to run out of limp mode try different Ecu units Tod at Jeeps speed pulling his hair out Clockwork says had it like a year year And now just finished the eight speed I am wondering if it’s the gear ratio that’s messing with things I’m running by 538 With an atlas transfer test just so weird maybe there’s something wrong with the engine I just quit going back to the shop until it’s finished thanks for answering me I’ll keep you updated
Is that the washer fluid res in the front corner on the driver's side? If so, maybe find a relocation spot for that bottle and route the intake to that corner. Seems like you could then easily find a way to get some fresh air to the filter. Love this build!
That was an amazing video, I have a question though, any 4x4 8HP70 would fit and operate for the project such as (durango's rt transmission)? Or does it have to be from a Ram?
Ben I have the same 2010 set up you do and have invested in the JSS kit. I am shopping for my 8hp70 and am seeing different gear ratios. I will still use my Rubicon transfercase so what ration should I be looking for?
Hey Ben love your videos, really helped with my swap. I was wondering if you had to adjust your fan controller and if so where did the numbers end up? Thx
Hey Ben! Did you use a special grommet to attach your Iat sensor to your intake? Or did you just drill a hole and push it in? Can't find a "bong" for it
got a friend that's putting a 5.7 hemi in a 2008 jeep JKU what kind of programer did you use, for getting tires, speedometer an tranny in sink, Supper Chips?

But with a stock tune you’re leaving a lot of hp and torque on the table, and it sounds like you need some tweaks to your existing tune anyway.
Just got around to seeing this video - outstanding craftmanship!
Thank you for the list. Too bad I have a charger v6 and looking for the list on that conversion.
You are a very smart young man, if i was in my 50des id rock a 5.7
And, you had another vehicle to drive while you did the swap. Nicely done.
What a great parts list you've compiled, with links. Thanks.
Don't have a jeep, or a dodge product, but watched til the end and enjoyed. Thanks for the share
Used jeep 25k
Axles. 11k
Hemi swap 15k
Wheels tires lift 10k. = 61k
Don't get me wrong awesome job and good for you. I thinks it's beyond awesome you did it.
The time I'd have to spend to build and put it together plus tools and time last to come up with the money to do all this....... it's better for me to just trade my truck in and get the wrangler 392 plus have the warranty if and when something goes wrong.
Yeah the 392 Factory jeep is awesome! But, now add axles, wheels, tires, and lift to the 75k stock price of the 392 Rubicon.
@@JKGearandGadgets I wouldn't
You are comparing and apple to an orange.
I love the billions and billions !!! great job Ben !! brilliant !!!!!
Thank you for putting together this Vid series , Awesome !
Great video man. So well done and informative. Plus you gave us "Billions and Billions". That was nice.
Congratulations on your swap! I’ll be looking for updates on long term experience with it. 👍🏼
Luckily the 3.8 can handle boost better than the 3.6 can
5:38 gears wow that's cool I thought 5:13 gears were about as high as it goes My Jeep still has a stock 321 years in it awful but I have a tune on my Venus RV6 and I'm pumping out 328 horsepower and close to 300lb of torque but you probably have 470 to almost 500 lb toward astonishing
What a beautiful build!
Thanks 🙏 for thee whole breakdown and pricing brooo 😎 wrote it all down
Before I start back watching after this add.
Id do a snorkel setup so its getting nice clean cool air. and it will expand what you can do
That's crazy on the Ripp's.. Knock on wood, I haven't had a lick of issues out of my v2's (literally knocking on wood right now) and I have probably put 5k miles on them so far.
It's a great build. Ignore the haters brother.
Great video Ben, I hope one day to check out your Jeep in person!
the 3.8L can hardly get out of it's own way stock! With the added weight, the V8 makes a lot of sense.
I'm 16 and I removed and installed myself our front fox 2.0 on 08 jk 4d 35's after taking them to get rebuilt I thought I did a hack of a job but your over the top keep it up!
Someone must volunteer a JKU for a video on a L86 swap! hint hint! Great videos Ben, thank you for posting them!
wondering if this is a similar process doing it on a JT.. definitely looking into upgrading in the future. getting tired of the lack luster 3.6
Thanks
Great video!
You will get a 5.7 TCM reflash, so no issues there
But you can make sure it’s getting the 5.7 flash
dude - that's just awesome! might be doing this in the future myself... thanks!
Put a waterproof filter bag with a clamp on that intake
Beyond the engine hoist and welder are there any large tools required / highly recommended?
15k not bad sir 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Just to add on to the price list of ls kits, there’s literally 4 offerings around 8k that include the 8 speed tranny.
There weren’t when I made this video.
@@JKGearandGadgets didn’t think about that part
Wooed! That’s 1/2 of what you’d pay for dropping it off at one of those major shops!
Great info Ben, I absolutely love knowing these details. Well done
If anyone is interested I'm $12500 into my 6.2 LS, 6l80e, MoTech Kit. Was done 3 years ago, I'm sure it's a little more experience these days.
Really awesome deal. If only i had your skills! But great savings and skills!
Thanks !
Absolutely
You have been so good to answer questions, please answer 2 more :-)
1) I recently put a PSC Hydro Assist with the new PSC pump and the Big Bore. I have been told that this will work. Will it?
also 2) does the Jeep Speed shop offer a full kit minus the engine and transmission? BIG THANKS!
It will be a tight fit but it fits! Yes he sells a full kit.
Thinking about doing a 5.7 Hemi Swap 2012 Wrangler. It has a 6 speed manunal will I still be able to use the 6 speed.
What’s going on with the 8 speed? What issues are you having
I love Merka so much 🇺🇸
Love it. Any idea if the new JL/JT manual transmission will hold up to a 5.7?
Is that the washer fluid res in the front corner on the driver's side? If so, maybe find a relocation spot for that bottle and route the intake to that corner. Seems like you could then easily find a way to get some fresh air to the filter. Love this build!
Put the 392 Hemi badges on the back so when you leave others in your dust they know why!
you should consider a 6.1 intake from a junkyard. TB comes out straight.
Do you think the jeep swap kits 6.4 would be compatible with a 02 ram 1500
That was an amazing video, I have a question though, any 4x4 8HP70 would fit and operate for the project such as (durango's rt transmission)? Or does it have to be from a Ram?
I’m always here to find my next install!!!!! Thanks brother keep up the good work. See u on the trail soon enough!!
Hey man, really enjoy this series and I learned a lot from it. What drive shafts did you go with after measuring. Did you go with Adams 1350s again?
loving that boot cover the crown royal😈
Ben I have the same 2010 set up you do and have invested in the JSS kit. I am shopping for my 8hp70 and am seeing different gear ratios. I will still use my Rubicon transfercase so what ration should I be looking for?
Nice. Work of art.
Forgive the question if already answered. Did you have to do an AWD delete or did you find a transfer case that fit?
Hey Ben love your videos, really helped with my swap. I was wondering if you had to adjust your fan controller and if so where did the numbers end up? Thx
Hey Ben! Did you use a special grommet to attach your Iat sensor to your intake? Or did you just drill a hole and push it in? Can't find a "bong" for it
I used a grommet from orielly. I can’t remember which size it was, I just brought the sensor in and found a grommet on the isle
@@JKGearandGadgets awesome I'll do the same. Thank you!
awesome work man...skills!
Any concerns about your exhaust heating up your transfer case? Might need a heat shield. Nice buildup and thanks for the breakdown in cost.
My concern is how low the exhaust is 🤷🏼♂️
Really nice jeep 🤘🏼 America 🇺🇸
Wow, great info. Thank you so much for doing this!
Fab up dual snorkels for it
Definitely put the 392 emblem just under the jkgear sticker
got a friend that's putting a 5.7 hemi in a 2008 jeep JKU what kind of programer did you use, for getting tires, speedometer an tranny in sink, Supper Chips?
Can you mate it to a six speed? I imagine you’ll have to upgrade the clutch… and the cams if it originally mated to an auto I suppose.
