Good review, thanks. The DT 770 Pro is a studio staple. It's mostly flat response and good clarity make it a great fit for DJ mixing and personal studio. There are better reference headphones but most are considerably more money. At $159 U.S., the DT 770 Pro hits the sweet spot for price, quality, and reference type sound.

Useful review for two reasons: you’re clear about the kind of music you listen to, and, unlike most reviewers, you’re clear about the driver you used. This latter point is one of the most important things to know about before buying high impedance headphones.

Excellent video man. I've had the DT 770 pro 80 for about 10 years now. Such a good headphone and for me the closed back is needed. I'm able to game/watch movies late at night and not have to worry about waking my family up. And I find the bass to be amazing. I haven't tried the 32 ohm or 250 ohm so I can't speak on those

I have the dt770 32 ohm and I use it on my PC. The treble is piercing but detailed. The mids are agile and not muddy. I can hear the separation between the mid frequencies easily. The sub bass is audible but sometimes not that agile. For fun listening I just EQ it like a v shape.
The rest of the time, I EQ the dt770s to be close to neutral as possible, where the highs are lowered, and my 100hz frequencies are turned up slightly. I like the headphones to be true neutral because you can hear audio the audio engineers intended u to hear it.
They are very capable headphones with a big range of frequencies. You just need to EQ them to your liking. These headphones can shine when you make them vshape sounding, (but just leave treble frequencies alone).

The DT770 80ohms have the most bass and the largest soundstage of all the DT770 range. I will say that the bass is a bit muddy but it has slamming sub-bass.

I have both DT990 250Ohms and DT770 80Ohms. 990 sounds more V-shaped with punchier mid-high bass (drum kicks) and brighter treble, while 770 have more sub-bass rumble and higher mids.

These are not Beats by Dre' .. these are Beyerdynamic and supposed to be accurate versus pumped up. hence the less bassy and more flat accuracy. That said... I like the review and the fact you pointed out it was airy similar to open-back is interesting as I wasn't expecting that. I'm ordering a pair of THESE now :- ) ... because my open backed Sennheisers are not blocking out the room noise enough for me when the AC is on or other noises that just are around now and then. To me the DT770 has deep and good base, but not overpowered like my old Beats. The sound is really clear and you can really hear more details than the Beats. I bought the 80 ohms thinking my onboard sound card would give enough power, but after a week I bought a Tooping D10 with a JDS Atom and now I have better but also way louder sound. Adding a modmic and you have the perfect combo in my opinion.

I'm also looking for that bass profile that makes it feel more enjoyable and immersive but I prioritize in performance over anything. hearing footsteps and having that clarity is a must the only thing I'm afraid is buying a setup like this and feeling bummed after comparing it to my current Hyper X Orbit Headsets that are basically an audeze headset. How much of a difference would you find when you switched from usb to this kind of setup? how loud can that setup go since I really enjoy high volume? Not by much tho, but they slam abit harder and gives a more punch in - for me at least - metal/rock music. I wouldn't say that they are more boomy then the 250 Ohms, but at least both respond to sub bass compared to let's say the Sennheiser HD 58x and does it tight without any sacrifice to the rest of the spectrum. Btw, it's nice to see that more people then me are late to the party, I believe the first version of these was made in like the 1980s? And I dicovered them maybe around 2004. I didn't like them as much back then but I guess my "ear for good sound" has changed and now I just bought the 80 Ohm version after lending a friends 250 Ohm. And they are spot on for gaming, music and youtube watching. Now I just have to get a dekstop mic and a boom arm, cause they that good that any other gaming headset that I've tried until now sounds like trash in comparision ;)
