Great simple review as always !
I've had these for a year and have had them yanked off me by the cord multiple times and no damage has been done , its a pretty sturdy cable for sure.
You seriously have the best review on RUclips for these. The vibe just feels super chill and honest, and I appreciate that a lot. Mine are delivered, so once I get off work today, I'm gonna go test them out!
the quality of the video 8 seconds in is mindblowing
Thank you for describing how the audio sounds. Don’t know how many videos I watched where they just said it sounded good or bad without details.
Glad you gave them a second chance to break them in! Would like to see you do a review of the TYGR 300R from beyer. Maybe a comparison with the 300R and 990 later on?
Nice review. Like your perspective on describing how they sound to you.
Subscribed, good honest review, cant go wrong with that. You need to review the seinhieser 660 next, im thinking about buying them for christmas 🎄
Maybe! I’ve been thinking about it but I have two other headphones on the table that I’m going to be checking out first!
Good man, plays Reach. Well articulated, sir!
Not an audiophile at all, but these are my favorite headphones I’ve ever used. Super comfy and I actually really love listening to music with these. Use a schiit fulla 3 and it works great
Is the bass better with the DAC/amp? I’m looking to buy the same combo as you😃
Daan bass should be a bit better and a small artificial eq boost can help. I have the 250 ohm pair so I need the amp anyways but if you have the 80 ohms something like the schiit fulla 3 or a fiio e10k can definitely help with the bass
Coleman Brown tysm. Just ordered the 250 ohms and fulla 3!
hey I have a question i really like these headphones but it does not have a microphone is there away i can connect a microphone to these headphones yes or no
@@Faulty_Dead1y companies like modmic make mics that can stick on to a pair of headphones that don’t have a mic pre-attached. They require their own cable that hangs down separately from the headphone cable(or you can shell out for the wireless modmic). They tend to cost around 50-100 dollars or more for the wireless version. If you are looking for headphones to use with a gaming console, I don’t recommend these. If you are looking for pc headphones, these are great and at that point I’d just get a mic that sits on your desk. I personally use the dt990 pro with a schitt fulla 3 amp, and then I have a rode podmic hooked up to an audio interface.
TL;DR: modmic is a company that makes mics that attach to headphones that don’t have them built in, but they are pricey and can add some bulk. Dt990s are great, but I only recommend them if you are getting them to use with a computer and a fairly permanent set up. They are not very console friendly
:0 I just realized from your video i can adjust the headphones omg. Literally had these since 2017 and would hurt my head because I thought I couldn't adjust them. wow this is so much more comfortable now.
does it include a mic as i need a mic with it
@@roman_barrett5444 No that's the main downside for me. I should also let you know without a dac you can't get enough volume in many games, it won't get loud. also you need a dac to make it sound really good because you can't have enough power for the 250ohms.
@@deluxo2901 my motherboard says it can output up to 600 ohms. so idk if i will need a dac?
@@HogRider420 yeah your good, it's just some cheaper motherboards, like mine won't put out enough ohms for 250ohm headphones. I am not very educated on what I'm talking about when it comes to this.
😂😂
bought a pair of these slightly used for like $110 with a removable cable mod. Very excited to try them out
You should get the DT 1990 Pro next, it’s gonna blow your mind
Yay new vid ur my favorite tech youtuber
rock these for a few years. very nice !
honestly i want these i might get these. Great video man.
Well what do you listen to, most of the time these are not for everyone.
Welp this is what I needed to confirm my purchase
I have them with a dac like the one that you have. The sound blaster and I have a sound card with it, I love them!. I’m never going back to any of the console brands. I want to upgrade to the DT 1990 pro next
I'm going to use them with an X3 soundbalster. Can't wait to try them
Man whats your camera? Its looks amazing!
Fr
We never will look that good ,even with the same camera !
@@kennethjohnritsema7019 talk about ur self?
Its ur mom watching him, thats why the quality is good
DT 990 pro 250ohm and Sound blaster G6 here Amazing combo
can i plug the 250 ohm version directly into the min goxlr and still get the same quality or do i need a seperate amp?
fucking love your videos, excuse my french but i am serious!! HIGHLY underrated!!!
Haha thank you man, you da best✊🏾
you can replace the cable with a bit of work. there are replacement cables from beyerdynamics for it. so you dont have to throw them away if the cable brakes
Using this through 10 years. Cable like new. ALLOVER WORKING like new
thank you, exactly what i needed haha
I got them 16 months ago. They are great, but the ear cups foam worn out and is not as thick any more. Also they favour high tones.
Would a fiio k5 pro dac/amp be good for these dt990 pro 250 ohms headphones and what gain should I be using it on 🤷♂️
The 250 ohm really needs a separate power amp (as you briefly mentioned). If you don't have a separate power amp, the 80 ohm are MUCH better. They will give you a deeper low end. With the amp, this is fixed. Look up the difference between 250 and 80 ohm headphones. I have both. And you are correct that the 250s are for analytics and isolating instruments and source; they are the perfect phones for engineering a mix. The 80 ohm are better for mastering music for final output; the give a more full and even sound stage.
What amp should i buy for the 250 ohm while using a ps5 console only
Can i use behringer umc22 to power my DT 990pro?
Perfect Video !
Yes to me as a non audiophile expert, this headset is still worth to get! I use it for gaming and it is awesome!
Do you use amp or no amp? If you don’t use an amp what type of motherboard do you have?
^^^^ plz answer
AMP seems to be necessary. I got recommended the Sound BlasterX G6.
the only thing that i can't understand about the 990s is...why did they had to cheap out on the plastic? after six months the left plastic slider broke off and the 20€ replacement pack was a pain to repair, some sturdy thic rubber would make them a 10/10 for me
This man needs more subs
does the dt headphone series is better than logitech g430 or hyper x cloud 2 with 7.1 for gaming? im using goxlr mini as interface.
im happy for answers thanks 🙂
Been talking about these for a while on your discord and I think I caved in and got them
How are they I have a gaming pc and don’t plan on buying an amp can I still use this and will it be good
Doesn't sound like you used DAC with these headphones?
sick vid subbed!
Does this headset need an amp or does it sound fine without? The jack doesn’t plug into my headset so I have to get a adapter or an amp? What should I do? I have a low budget
If your cable breaks, you can just get another one from Beyerdynamics and easily replace it. These Beyerdynamics headphones are designed to be heavy-duty studio workhorses with pretty much all parts easily replacable, unlike most other headphones (where you often *do* have to just get another pair), and for this very reason, Beyerdynamics is dedicated to ensuring replacement parts are available from them, and has been for some 25 years (and counting). Many of the parts can be replaced even by people with very little skill in this area, and you can essentially rebuild the entire headphones from replacement parts if needed.
7:20 - It has a lot of sub-bass and slam when powered correctly. If you ever get your hands on a Beyerdynamic A20 or A2 try it!
Having better isolation ear cups means the sound made from the driver doesn't seep out of an unnatural place which would be where your head and the cups meet
I use these headphones paired with a Monolith Liquid Spark amp. I genuinely love them and they are my daily drivers and actually replaced my A40's. The situation you had is what's called "Burn In" any brand new set of headphones does require a burn in, usually around 10 hours of use to get the drivers dialed.
Just curious~ do you need to have them on your head for "burn in" or just lay on desk while playing music?
I bout them and I didn’t know u need an amp so now I’m saving up for one 😂
@@ronaldhoppus9015 I am SO sorry I didn't get a notification for this reply. No you do not need to be wearing them. just put some music on at your normal listening level and let them sit.
@@dfran5314 yeah any studio grade headphone will require an amp. I always recommend an amp anyways just to have much more control over volume.
love ur reviews, hello from Russia
Hi! I'm going to buy the Beyerdynamic DT-990 Pro headphones (250ohm) and after doing some research I realised I'll be needing an amp for those.
(Thought of buying Behringer HA400, is is good?). However I stumbled across this DAC thing and now I don't know whether I'd be also needing it or not? I'll be using my headphones with my pc which has Gigabyte z97x gaming 7 as a motherboard (it's said to be able to drive 600ohm loads).
So yeah, do I also need DAC or will I be just fine without one? I'd be so grateful if someone shed some light on this one!!
Hey you will definitely need an amp with 250+ ohm headphones, but for real with 80 ohm is nice to have too. I can recommend some amp for you :) focusrite scarlett solo(if you want you can put there one mic), focurite 2i2 2nd gen(for more mic holes :D), or the legendary steinberg ur22mkii. In the steinberg you won't need any software because you can do everything physically, when with focusrite you will need software(you can download it for free from them website). These audio interface are beast :)
Dont ever get these overpriced audio interfaces, try looking for an amp/dac. many people will recommend the E10k or just simply the soundblaster
What about a EVGA NU Audio card for the PC?
if I have a Fiio K3 DAC will it work with Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro 250 Ohm?
6:19 Man I thought I was going crazy😂 kept pausing the video thinkink i heard a phone ring until I realised it was the music lol
God tier videos only come from too much tech, y’all ain’t subbed then you messed up big time
How does the bass compare to the dt770? I have the dt770 but want just a little more bass with mostly having the same sound signature.
With my understanding, the 770 have the most bass out of the three headphones in that line due to being closed back
Edit: the 770 80ohm version has more bass than the 250ohm
Does the 250 ohm beyerdynamic work with focusrite Scarlett solo 3rd gen and the mic is audio technica at2020
I’m pretty sure that the scarlet solo can’t give enough power for the 250 ohm version. It would most likely work with the 80 ohm, but for the 250 you’ll have to get a dac/amp
@@retrovoltgaming4873 ok thanks for your help
You’ll be more than fine with an audio interface to power these headphones up. Get the motu m2
So should I buy these or nah
is this going to be good at listening music if its paired with a sound blasterx x g6?
1st day in using it, with a go-xlr depending your sound set up on the game also, you can hear everything very clear, not even you can tell what direction someone’s coming like it’s natural.
So I have to say for me first day so far it’s perfect, let’s see how I go in a couple weeks I will edit this..
Do you have an update on the sound yet? Was planning on buying these for c.o.d
@@mattandrayvargas457 there perfect, you can hear foot steps more and the louder shoots lower so the foot steps are heard more, doesn't mean you cant hear the shoots. its amazing i tell yeah now.
bro your camera quality is amazing, what camera is that?
Sony A7S 2
Jsut a heads up point of leather is to do with head as default pads more prone to the making your ears hot sweety over long duration in saying this using different non stick pads can change the sound signature
I've been down and out the other side of the audio rabbit hole. Pro tip sir: Get a Dac/amp combo now, for future tests. Schiit Hel powers everything and has mic input. I went from HD598 all the way to 800s. Best, for the money, pound for pound gaming for ME is the HD700. Light as air, open as can be, great directional audio.
Honestly I’m looking for some more bass but still a clean sound, I think imma try the hifiman Sundara next. Using the K5 Pro now I like it a lot, I considered the Hel but I don’t really need the Mic Jack but Ill probably try it at some point as well
Do we need both a dac and a amp for the sennhieser hd 650s? I use a ps5 console no pc, can I still do this?
Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro cable can be replaced if damaged
No it can’t
@@lookbehindyou8703 You can. But it involves taking the Headphones apart, so you can detach the old cable and solder a new one.
Here is an original cable (website is a famous music shop based in germany) www.thomann.de/at/beyerdynamic_coiled_cable_dt770_880_990pro.htm
Do you think 250 ohm version will be good without an amp with the Scarlett 2i2
Nope. You're gonna need a stronger amp if you're using the 250 ohm. 80 ohm will work with almost any amp
@@nickrizos1593 ok thanks
After my planarmagnetic Audeze Mobius broke i bough the DT990 with fiio k5. And i must say Audeze’s sound quality was so much better. But they are 399e tho.
Will my mic pick up the sound that is coming out
Did you have an amp you have the 250 omhs headphones
This headset is so comfortable. Great video.
is it true that listening to music with them, is as he says?
Hey toomuchtech i have the hyperx cloud alpha headset but they sound amazing do these compare or are better
DT's are much much better
Sir, can I use this headphone, with my gaming laptop, Lenovo legion 5, or on Xbox series X without any external amp?? Because it is 250ohm headphone.
No,you need a amp
Maybe try the lucidsound ls31se. super comfortable and great sound
Wich is better for Gaming the dt990 pro or astro a40 Gen 4 / astro a50 gen4
dt990 pro
Thank you just the video I needed , you earned a sub from

Can u plug it in a normal PC?
I'm looking for a gaming headset. From what I've seen, I have two options in a 130 budget: Logitech g Pro X headset ; Cooler Master MH752 or ATH-M40X + vmoda mic . Could someone help me decide? or any recommendations
130 bucks... get the hyper x cloud II, they have a velour padding or leather padding they're removable and both come in the box, they have a vmod mic quality hut if you want you can get a vmod with your remaining 30 bucks and they're bassey which is perfect for footsteps in fps, for 130 dollars I recommend those, or the razer kraken te they're basically the cloud II only that no removable cushions and they're bulkier but they're also more comfortable in my ears tbh, but yeah ide rather get one of theese two which are superior to the headsets you listed plus they're cheaper

After about 3-6 month of use the headphones burn in and the extreme sharps go away for a smooter sound
For you, x2hr or dt990 pro?
Thanks!!
buy the hd 58x jubilee
much better price to performance.
Watched this video with my dt990pros connected to my motherboard with some Brainwavz Microsuede XL pads.
9/10 would recommend
Nice!
LoL I am ordering those cuz of your LTT post. Thanks. Did you end up ordering a pilot pad from ZMF. I think I will go for microsuede or Shure cups with that suede pilot pad as well. I have had them 2 years. Tbh, I like them. My issue is comfort. I have beyerdynamic custom game headset which have more leather padding on headband and ear cups. The clamp force doesn't hurt as much as my 990 pro. I am interested in the suede cups for reduced highs and less pressure like crushing my head like a watermelon. I kept looking at other brands due to this one hurting. But the only upgrade that I can see that is worth is the 1990 Pro which is a huge price tier jump. But you can order even better cups to completely change the sound signature then.
@@Madhawk1995 hey glad that post helped, I ended up getting 2 pads from brainwavz, normal sized hybrids and XL microsuede.
In the end I returned the hybrids and kept the microsuede and I'm using them right now and I must say the comfort is 10/10 ( watch out for the clamping force) and the sound doesn't change that much tbh , at first it might sound bad , too closed and isolating but once you get used to it they're really nice not changing the imaging that much . Been playing valorant with these pads and I'm not having issues spotting enemies , except front and back which that's just me being used to stereo headphones :p. They will isolate a bit but it's fine for me, will trade comfort for a bit of sound since these headphones are a pretty good entry point for 120€ without having to spend 200+ for "better headphones" that sound flat , i find them fun. The pads do increase bass and based on the volume your ears will feel the vibrations and highs are turned down a bit but not that much tbh.
Ask me anything, I'll be happy to help ;)
datguyful hey! If i can ask, what sound card does your motherboard have? Also, how much does the sound leak? Is there a way to test this? Thank you!
I don't how headphone sound but you sound amazing...
The dt990s have been criticised for being bright but after some time they become less bright. Doesn't matter why. Ps the cable is really tough. But if it does break it can be replaced. In fact everything on that phone can be replaced.
Are the dt 990 pro 250 ohm WORTH with soundblasterx g6???
Yes, definitively.
@@woodric is the 250 ohm better with the sound blaster or should I just get 80ohm
@@nick-pu3gt As far as I read, the 250 Ohm with amplifier is better than the lower Ohm version alone.

Burn them in. After burn in they’re near perfect. The thin sharp treble that sounds like snakes becomes so smooth with time. And for the bass, get the motu m2, turn the knob up, and lower the volume on your pc, you’ll see the bass.

Hey. Is ifi hip dac good amp to drive 990 pro 250 ohm
Yes I have this combo. Sounds great!
I have a friend that is recently purchasing this one I myself have a DT 1990 and that one was a lot better base compared to my Sennheiser headphones that I have tried out like the 650 the 660 and the 58x which is the cheaper bunch of them in the 1990 still blows them away for bass which probably the reason for that is that the 1990 feels like a semi open back but I also must say I'm using an EQ on all of these with a sound card that's a sound card/amp the card that I've been rocking right now for the last 5 years or so is the Onkyo pcie 300 that uses the creative Xfi chip and drivers
is amp for this headset is a must ??
If you get the 250 ohm yes, the 80 ohm you can probably get away with plugging it into your motherboard and using an EQ
Really should try 770 pro 80ohm
These are made for mixing and mastering... they are GREAT for the job... if they are the 250 ohm...u may need an amp but your interface should do the job... they are bright... and flat especislly with bass wich is exilent for a good mix
I like that this video and how your learning with us

Good stuff
Idk if I'm missing something or what. But I have these plugged into a soundblaster x4 and directionally, these are awful. I get the right direction 90% of the time. But up and down? No idea. Distance? General idea. Meanwhile $90 gaming headphones I know the exact milimeter the enemy is at. Really wanna like these, but very very mid for gaming imo.
