Thanks for sharing the clip, I did the same with a power drill and everyone thought I was crazy, yes last year I got a nasty heart strain that lead to an arithmia and a stroke to follow. Now I start everything with an old skill power drill with two speeds

Thanks for your good advice and suggestions. I'm 70 too and have dodgy discs in my back so bending and standing back up is difficult for me so I have lost the ability to tug on the rope sufficiently violently. Cancer too and the drugs I have to take make me weak and tired. We had a load of wood delivered a couple of days ago and I found that I can't start either chain saw to cut it up :-((
I was once told by a very successful man that I got along well with and highly respected to turn every setback into an opportunity to succeed and I try to follow his advice, I also like to try new things and to innovate. I have a motor sports background, I still have the tools and modifying engines holds no fear for me. I am intending to make a small steel adaptor to bolt to the flywheel using the existing puller threads and will secure them with thread lock, this is because the flywheel securing nut is small and the action of electric starter will tend to undo that nut.
I shall do my smaller, older, cheaper chainsaw first and had worked how to do it before I saw your video, you confirmed what I was thinking to try.
But I had two thoughts which you didn't cover:
ropeadaptor to pass through then refit the flywheel cover - you don't want foreign bodies to attack the finned flywheel as there is potential there for a nasty injurious mess. Also the cover plate possibly directs cooling air from the flywheel fins onto the engines's cooling fins and you wouldn't want to spoil that.
    2. I shall be using a battery electric version of a tyre changers windy gun as that has massive torque and a half inch square output shaft to fix wheel nut socket spanners - better than a drill. Also one of my machines has a 200cc two stroke and that is quite hard to turn over.
Off to the motor factors tomorrow to buy one of those ratchet adaptors,
We may be seventy with creaking bodies but our ingenious minds still fire on all cylinders.
Greetings from an old Englishman living in Slovakia.

Well did you redesign it fella from Muskegon Michigan USA
So did you invent that adapter to the flywheel nut socket spanner so that you're turning the hole flywheel instead of putting direct torque on the socket that you would talk about did you reinvent the wheel in a way?

Make sure you pass the TDC ( top dead center of the 4 cycle mower engine ) , before pressing the variable speed throttle of the drill . This will ensure that your drill has inertia speed before reaching the compression cycle of the mower engine .Otherwise it will block and your drill motor gonna heat and you risk burning it. At the slightest blockage, remove the drill and run it empty to cool down otherwise you will burn the brushes.
Even the slightest powerful drill can block. There is also the risk that the internal helical gear of the drill slips, this happens, among other things, when the percussion mode (hammer) is half engaged.
In short, all these Chinese-made drills (even the well-known brands) are not very solid and therefore replacing this starter recoil cord assemblies costs around $30 on Amazon...it's cheaper than a drill.

I am going to try this on my push mower, but going to drill a hole out in the top plastic housing so the socket will go on top of the bolt and start the motor without the flywheel exposed.

Thanks - that's a good tip. I just purchased a piece of equipment with a Briggs engine. The pull rope is in an awkward location, but the main problem is the very long rope (about 3 feet long) and I never feel satisfied I'm getting a full revolution when I pull it. Hopefully this solves my problem.

The ratchet attachment should prevent anyone from breaking their wrist. He isn't selling anything or telling you that you have to do it he's merely showing how he
      starts his mower.
Another thing he's 70 yrs old his lawyers could keep it tied up in court for the rest of his life😂

That's why he's using the ratchet attachment, to prevent breaking a wrist or slinging the drill across the room when the engine starts.
