This is an excellent idea without all that rotten pull string nonsense.
My recoil starter lasts a bit longer as my mowers have a device known as a blade brake clutch. If I have to stop for whatever reason briefly, the blades stop and the engine continues to run.
Cuts grass much better after you added the electric starter. 😀 Well done! You are a master inventor. I think I would have just replaced the pull cord.

The company that produces that glue should pay you money - I went and bought that glue after I saw it in your clips - you use it at everything :))

It's not Glue it's Grease to lubricant the moving parts it's just in a syringe.
Would have cost less to pay attention and buy a better mower, not too bright.

Fantastic engineering on something that is not easy to do!
Check the valve clearances on this mower. If you set them up well, it will fire better.
Been setting mine by what Teryl does 4 thousandths. Does fire better.
I imagine the gearing from the Power Wheels gearbox is really low. Gives you more torque, but it turns slow.

Do the fly wheels on these little engines not keep running when the engine is running? because if they do, that electric motor will still be attached to the spinning fly wheel just moving.
Please cover the starter motor.

That was a nice job but why did you remove the filters from the starter motor? With all of the dust mowers produce I would think they would be very important.
They look like he added to keep the silver paint from going inside.

Without a bendix to disengage the gear, the gear will wear down fast.
It does disengage all he did was motorized the pull start mechanism which disengages by those metal pins and springs that he installed twards the end

About as long as that micro switch pulling 10 to 15 Amps to start the mower...

I toyed with the idea of fitting a starter motor to my mower but Aldi was selling one with electric start and self propel for A$280.......how could I not get excited?
That's pretty clever and nice work by the way but back in my day I would just use my cordless drill and a socket and extension and spin the flywheel nut
That's a really excellent way to break your wrist (if you don't have an adapter that prevents rotation feeding back to the drill).
İ want to make my 110cc ATV engine starter like this but with this reduction its to slow to turn the engine
That's exactly why I used a 20V battery.
I think this DC motor is 12V
Awesome job but you Shouldn't use heavy grease in the dog leg spring area as it stops them retracting properly and i think thats what that awful squeely noise was when the engine was running
I was wondering about that, also, I expect dust will get in and make it worse over time.

The battery shouldnt be on the hot motor.. put it near the endstop switch.
Or, once you remove the pull cord, take your cordless drill with a 19mm socket and start it directly off the nut that’s there.
It's a good idea if you could keep the same amount of power coming out of that setup. If not, it's not even worth it

Good idea. But when you use the battery without safety electronics, you can destroy it if you drain it completely. There is an electronic device in the battery, but it does not protect against reverse polarity on the cells.
The batteries have protection circuits built in to stop full discharge.
what is that spray that you use? brakekcleaner?
It is a two-part adhesive with a spray hardener (Mitre Apel, Akfix 705 etc.)
Ok, where is you redundancy to start the engine when the plastic gears stripes or the motor burns out

Not only the rotting string the pressure washer we using at work is a diesel it gives a kick back some times and man shes a pain in the 🍑 when gives trouble to start i even injured my main nerve starting that piece of 💩 last year 🤦

Ya know this is nice to have.. I just don't think it's that damn hard to start a push mower..How long do you think those plastic gears will last realistically?? That is the smallest push mower I have ever seen.. I bet that thing is light huh..

VERY cool idea! I agree with @garybensel6680, if you don't have the time to do this unique mod, the drill idea works well, too. I did it, and it makes a world of difference!
