Yes indeed I love this classic movie too, and I enjoyed everything in this movie including of course Harrison Ford's breakout role as Bob Falfa. This is one of those movies I can watch over and over again and never get tired of.😀😁😃😊
The sparks were from the steel belts in the tire. Little detail indicating his tires were slick. Which is why at the end he has a blow out and crashes.
I'm not even a big fan of the movie, and I'm not a 'car person', but... this scene keeps coming back to me. Probably re-watched it, like... 50 times since seeing the movie in its entirety many years ago? The scene- esp. that "main street" vibe at night. is awesome. the dialogue, too. the song in the bg I almost wanna visit that exact street in Modesto (or Petaluma) at night just to get that feel
Love that Harrison Ford admits to doing steady work as a carpenter before AG but never mentions that he supplemented his income selling mj to his clients. Then of course when he was hired for Star Wars he didn't have to.
he was too chicken to trade his 55 for a military uniform, can't help protect the country that gave him the opportunity to rake in all that dough acting
If you notice Milner 's license plate on his car, it thx1138. Lucas's first movie, and I believe it was a the clearance code to get on the death star with the imperial transport.
It was also a number on the back of one of the battle droids in Phantom Menace. And you can hear General Reikan say, “Send Rogues 10 and 11 to Station 3-8” as Han and Chewie head out to investigate the probe droid in Empire.
Fun Fact: Harrison Ford had a condition for acting in the film-he didn’t want to cut his long '70s hair into a flattop. So Ford and the filmmakers reached a compromise with the cowboy hat. If you look closely you can see Ford's long hair tucked under the hat.
John Milner, a character that drives what is supposed to be the fastest car in the valley, being hunted by Bob Falfa (that names sounds an awful lot like the name of a certain Bounty Hunter in Star Wars)... Just putting this in here.
I was so young when I first watched this movie that I thought the girl he had to drag along was almost the same age as the rest of the people here, she seemed grown up to me, now she looks like a kid.
So, because he appeared in this movie, George Lucas had no intention of casting Harrison Ford as Han Solo, but Harrison ended up reading as the character for other actors’ screen tests and he was so good in the readings that Lucas relented and gave him the part. Imagine if he stuck to his guns and didn’t cast Harrison. We might have gotten Kurt Russell or Perry King as Han instead and Harrison might be best known as Bob Falfa.

@@jakeshannon494 Yes. I don't know if you've ever seen Christine, but watch the opening sequence... that's my all time favorite sound of an engine roaring. (Christine is also the car in my profile picture, 1958 Plymouth Fury)
Le Mat IS a pretty engaging personality in this movie. I think every teen age guy, no matter their actual age, who saw this film wanted to be Milner. Tough guy speed demon who was kind to guys like "Toad" and girls like Carol, and wise enough to not do stupid things like blow through that red light. I like Milner a lot. And I just ignore the bit at the end of the film saying he was killed by a drunk driver. You know what though, personalizing the cost of drunk driving, even with a fictional character like Milner, really does help shape peoples attitudes about irresponsible behavior, so I'm not too mad at Lucas for killing off a great guy like John. God challenged Milner to a drag race in heaven,......God lost. Yellow Duce Coupes forever!
I thought it was pretty poetic to have Milner killed by a drunk driver, something he almost spoke into existence when walking in the car graveyard earlier in the film. Like the other main characters, he is at a crossroads and being pulled in two directions: keep risking his life in street races or grow up and put it behind him. He almost does the latter after the Paradise Road accident, but ironically is convinced to keep doing it by the guy who would end up getting killed in another pointless exercise of violence in Vietnam. Milner represents the toxic Americana death wish of the James Dean era who didn't learn the tragic lessons from the fallen icon.
Harrison Ford, the man, the legend, the DRAFT DODGER, got no use for him, Nam 1970-71. love the movie and Milners 5 window 32 ford. This was so. calif in the 1960's, everyone had a 55-56-or 57 chevy, best friend I ever had could have been Milners twin.
Dodging the draft hardly makes him a bad person. Nobody should be forced to fight for anything they don't believe in. I thought this was America. Also, bro, 50 yrs is a long time to hold a grudge.
I don't know what the 55 had in it but it wasn't a small block. That was a beefy Big Block. Your cars uglier than I am. Classic line. when she got the balloon in the face it was an accident. The window was supposed to be up. But the left it in because it was funnier.
I read about the Movie one time. They said they had to hold the Black Car Back or it would have blown the yellow one off the road.I also read that at the first Hotel they stayed in kicked them out.The Reason they were kicked out? Paul Lemat and Bo Hopkins were caught Pissing in an Ice machine.Ive done some crazy stuff in my life. That one takes the cake they were jumping off the roof and into the pool too.
They should have used a 429 cobra and that Ford Deuce coupe instead of putting the 327 Chevy in it although that 327 did a pretty good job keeping up with that 454 that was in the 55 but I just wish they would have kept Ford engine in the coop

Harrison Ford was seriously memorable. He really lit up the screen. Not surprised he ended up a huge leading man.

"Breakout role"?!? Nice spin, but not the truth. Ford struggled for years after A.G. to gain jobs as an actor. The "breakout" role was Han Solo.
Yes, his scenes in Apocalypse Now were actually shot before SW - that's the sort of role he was getting in 1976.
