I miss living in Elko (Spring Creek). My wife and I lived there over 20 years and raised four kids. We now live in Florida yet we still miss our friends back there.
What's all this talk about attain cheap land there..Is there a Hospital there.Since I'm Filipino, there probably won't be any other kinda job up there for me😅
How’s that heat, humidity, and crime working out for you? Most of my family lives in Florida. I used to frequent there when I lived in Louisiana. I even lived there for a while. No thank you.
@@IdahoEagle77 The crime isn't bad. We live in an old neighborhood too --no rich folk! Maybe that's why no one comes around to bother anyone. On the other hand, the humidity is killer! After we left Elko we lived in Vegas for a couple years prior to coming to Florida. True fact: it is easier to deal with 115-117 deg F temps in Vegas (very dry heat) than like Florida is right now in the mid 90's with wicked humidity. Sometimes it doesn't even make sense to shower as you don't always dry off before putting on your underwear.
@@robinhoodloom5795 Yes, there is a hospital in Elko. The only one within about a 150-200 mile radius (or more depending on the direction you travel). There is some low cost land, but you better be ready to live off grid. The biggest challenge is going to be water. Very little rainfall. The next issue is out 7-8 month winter and below zero temperatures. You absolutely have to winterize your trailer or camper if that's what you plan to live in on those lots. Fun fact though: There is actually lots of fresh water underground --the challenge is drilling down to it. Very expensive wells and you need a lot of pump power to get it to the surface. Still, I miss living there. We are staying in Florida as long as my wife's mom is still kicking. Then we are going to move back west somewhere to be near our kids and grandchildren.
You should come for a visit! How long ago was that and do you know which mine site? They give bus tours to some of the mine sites so you can get up close.
@@krisashdown5516 He was there about 8 years ago, he was a dump truck driver. Well defiantly want to go up there a visit, part of my Reno, Carson City, Elko tour. I want to take the train up the Donner Pass to Reno. Then just rent a car.
@@Moondoggy1941 If you're in California, you can take Amtrak from Sacramento straight to Elko. Takes about 14-15 hours if I recall. Very beautiful scenery coming through the Sierra Nevada range and then some fantastic long mile views of desert and sage brush. It's a relaxing ride.
Want to buy cheap land in Elko? Well, I already went through that process. Good luck being able to build what you want out there. Blows me away how a little town in the middle of nowhere has such strict building codes. Insanity. But yet there are tons of illegals flocking into that area.
Yes it Is. Best Resterants , Casio , hotels, , Ruby Mountins, , Tribal colany, Cowboy Poiatary Gatherig. And Friendly People , It's not gold mines that keeps Elko Alive. Its Comunity
30 years ago, there were many different mining companies and they were all awesome to their employees. But after a few decades of takeovers, buyouts, and consolidation --the very few that are left are now big corporations and not so family friendly like they once were. They seem to focus more on profits than people.
I don't know who you think you're fooling. Elko is primarily a gold mining hub, not a major business center. It's extremely difficult to find a good paying job there, as it's literally in the middle of nowhere.
If you are willing to work and put in the effort, there are good jobs and even better opportunities will come your way. Attitude is everything. AND oh yeah, be ready to adjust to waking up between 3:30-4 am to make a commute to a mine site. Mining jobs generally pay very well, and the better you learn your trade the quicker you will advance. Don't show up in rural communities complaining and expecting a handout.
@@IdahoEagle77 Rural communities tend to lean much more conservative than liberal. You have to be pretty self-sufficient and have a good head on your shoulders to make sure you can survive and thrive in such environments. People in rural communities will definitely lend someone a hand when needed, but they will not tolerate professional moochers and beggars. Take care.
There is that, and it is legal there to boot. I personally have never been in one, but they are absolutely there and some of my single friends have shared their experiences with me. One of them used to say, "any port in a storm". I think he was crazy though!

I drove the gold miners to the mines! I loved my time there!
KT Services or whatever name they operate under these days?
US crew change? Just applied
Elko, Elko, I wanna go. Vegas is way too much of a big city for me.
Im gonna be the mayor of Elko, one day!
Better to be a big fish in a small pond than little minnow in the great lakes.👍
can i be ur bestfriend ?
I’m moving in spring can’t wait to start my next chapter here with All the new opportunities
Cold winters lot's of snow.
My brother worked the mines there, this is the first time I saw what it looked like.

I’m moving to elko from the uk as I have a job sponsorship there… how is elko like ?

Are they really friendly? Cuz that's what Colonfornians claim to be when they really aren't
I Love elco

But Nevada sucks.
You got that wrong. We always used say that Utah sucks and California blows. No wonder there is so much wind there at times.
Glad to see you stay out of it.
No. California does and Californians themselves too. And so does the overrated town Kingman.
Have you ever been there? 😂😂😂
