I moved to Pahrump in 2019. I moved from Las Vegas. It was so crowed and crime filled. I lived in a 2-story house that had no back door or yard. The HOA made us keep the porch light on or get fined. It took 20 minutes to drive 3 miles??!! So I live in Pahrump in a 1600 sq ft manufactured home affixed on land on 1/2 acre. I live walking distance to huge mountains. It is so quiet, beautiful and clean air, nice people. I have horses and donkeys coming on my property. To me, the bad things are outweighed by the peaceful, low crime, clean living. Btw the very BEST fireworks show is in Pahrump. Beyond awesome. It is crowdfunded by the people. As the town is not incorporated there are very few rules. SO……Freedom abounds!

It is pretty cool to go up wheeler pass a bit and take pictures down below and they come around the bend. Makes for good content.

To each his own, i have been working on moving to pahrump for a year and a half . Just purchased a home in august. Best decision we made leaving vegas , bought a house with almost a acre and half....no hoa , fresh air and the people of pahrump could not be friendlier. Me and my wife love this town. I live on the south side of town and only 40 minutes from Vegas ,it is worth every mile i drive ....i never realized how bad vegas was getting till i moved out here....instead of the helicopter flying over mountain edge atleast twice a week all i hear are roosters , horses and donkeys...music to my ears ....i love it !... The good out way the bad . My dogs can run in our yards . Best decision ive made in years ....just had to get a permit to build a fence and the ladies couldnt have been nicer to me, its crazy how nice people are out here....and lil businesses out here are amazing , that bakery she spoke of is excellent and moms diner is jus awesome...it definitely worth checking out. You should tell ppl about the constant wood and trash smoke from neighbors burning-its TERRIBLE! I've lived here 14 years, and at first didn't have a problem with it, but it seems to be getting worse every year! I've moved and moved to 3 different places up here, and for 6 years now My Grandson, my pets, and myself have been getting so sick! Several trips to the hospital for smoke inhalation, because ppl SNEAK(or think they're being sneaky), and burn all night in a smoker, smoke meat for days at a time, burn trash because they don't want to pay, burn yard waste, and etc., the dump is right up the street, and it's FREE! When I first moved up here I loved it! Still love the area and nature, but there's just so many inconsiderate ppl!

I've lived here 20 years Vickie and you hit on some great points. One major point you left out is the water situation here in this valley. We are rapidly outgrowing the ability of the aquifer to handle the added people, thousands live on property with wells and wells are going dry, a costly fix when one needs drilled deeper. But this problem is a problem throughout Southern Nevada as a whole. I love it here but it is not going to be for everyone.

We lived in Pahrump for 5 years (3 years commuting between Texas and Pahrump). My wife loves the place. The views of the western slope of Mount Charleston are spectacular, but for a city this size (40,000+), the medical services available are atrocious considering the number of retirees living there. We lived in Hafen Ranch (on Doubletree), and it was a wonderful place. So quiet. Everything you mention is true. It certainly beats Las Vegas.

I've just moved to Pahrump with my 4 children and I thought that there was lots to do for kids. There is 4H which offers Robotics for all abilities (their most advanced group won state championship and who knows they could have won the world championship if it hadn't been cancelled for COV..) they offer archery and a range of different gun shooting sports, animal classes including dog training and livestock, sewing classes and Minecraft club. 4H is basically free too. Then there are numerous sports available for kids to do such as baseball, football etc as well as dance and drama classes, swimming is really cheap too. There's also scouts and horse riding. Then many of the churches run different clubs too. I don't know how you can say that there isn't much for kids! I did hear that the school district is one of the worst in state but I don't know about that as I homeschool mine.

I came from Vegas and I can say that the Middle school here is either better or worse in some aspects
      I was originally from Escobedo
      Things that are Better:
-The layout is more creative, which is way better than having a block for a school
-You go to school earlier so you get more free time
      -The school teaches subjects better
-There is way less stealing going on
-The half hallway direction is way better than making a one way hallway where you need to re enter the pod to go to another class
      Things that are Worse:
-The school is poor. It cannot afford any instruments, and there are no showers. (My old middle school had a bunch of showers)
      -The school is pretty strict
      -The fields are smaller
-The layout is better and worse, as it takes more time to traverse the school.
I'd say it's slightly better than my old school.

( alot of old people here ive realized that seem to hate new comers) I might check with great basin this year. I think she over quoted me a cheapest home and the water shes said she asked a friend at great basin about. I think it was a lie. I was looking to move to Pahrump. My problems ended up being: the new developments on the nice side of town are half a mile from a race track so it sounds like there is a nascar race going on somedays. Also the “not nice” part of town felt like it was straight out of Breaking Bad or the Wire. Super sketch. I could smell the meth in the air. I would love to live in a quiet little desert town but Pahrump is not it for me.

A problem with Pahrump. There really is no amenities. Yes we are a senior citizen town and the senior citizens have to travel over 60 miles to see their doctors in Las Vegas. If you want surgery you have to go all the way to Las Vegas if you want to buy clothes you have to go to Las Vegas. There isn’t shit here. The only thing it’s good for is outdoor activities.
