This is my last video about my Labrador Andy. I got him when he was 8 weeks old and i was his puppy raiser. I can not keep him anymore, because he is future assistance guide dog for blind people and i was his puppy raiser up to his 1 year.
When he was 1 year old i had to return him to the guide dog company, where professional trainers will teach him more complicated tasks and commands.
After that, if he will be healthy and well behaved, he will help blind person in their daily life. He can also help autistic people or other people that need it.

My black lab died today. She was only 8. She had kidney failure. Maddie only lasted about 1 week after we found that out. At the end she would try to get up but would fall over and start breathing really heavy due to low red blood cells. We decided that it was not a good way of life so we a few hours ago we took her to the vet and she did not come back. Maddie will always be with us. Remember that if you have lost your dog. They will always be there with you and they will always love you unconditionally.

Mine died on my chest while I was sleeping. I never allowed dogs in my bed... Pele had his own big bed, right by my bed. But the night he died, he got on my bed while I was watching a movie. So, I told him to go back to his bed, so he did. Then I fell asleep... the next morning, I felt this weight on my chest, that was his head, nostrils facing my nostril... Next morning I was in despair, I was completely disoriented... I couldn't believe he was just trying to say goodbye the night before but been an idiot that I am, I didn't connected the dots. I knew our goodbye was approaching, but he was so healthy. I was expecting him to live at least for another year. The veterinarian told me so. He died at the age of 16 and a half, with no health problem at all. I never gave him any food from the supermarket, I always prepared his food. He loved polenta Italiana, with garlic, black pepper, sea salt, olive oil, beef broth, and chunks of tender steak, mixed with rice and apples. We went to Italy, Portugal, Spain, and Brasil together... If your dog is getting old, be aware of weird things that they do at the end that they are not supposed to do, like getting in your bed, or sofa, or if they are starring at you constantly... Pele was constantly starring at me at the end... I knew what was going to happen, I gave him many hugs, and kisses, and carried him on my arms many times, and I was getting ready for the moment of his departure, but missed by my stupidity... don't be like me. Because of that I never got another dog... Pele died in 2016.

Got a black lab puppy a little less than a month ago. Wonderful dogs and extremely intelligent. Be prepared for a lot of walking and running, they are energetic.

My daughter and I rescued a black lab - abandoned, my daughter was relentless with picking this dog up,
So I did, black lab approximately four months , we kept - female Named - Sadie J, she had passed this past June quickly - unexpected approximate age nine, she was beautiful our first dog.
In my heart forever,
She had a liter of pups four years ago by a husky - she only had three pups, I kept two my daughter her boyfriend took one pup, and we have her mom in her babies that Sadie loved - she was a great mom..

so cute it reminds me of Charli the cute black reterver pit mix she lives with my older sister in Flordia Charli is 1 year and 6 months old she always makes the puppy eyes she is so cute i miss her a whole bunch i held her when she was only 2 weeks old she wiggled in my arms she is the cutest and kindest dog ever she is a good girl. She always makes a cute smile. I miss that smile.

I have forgotten how many times my black labs have saved me from myself. Such beauty, not a mean bone in their bodies. The Almighty must love labs, we only rent them for a short while, then back they go to Heaven. Peace.

I just got a black lab and he is only 8 weeks old, I have never had such a well behaved ( for a puppy that is) puppy before. Mine looks exactly like yours did at 8 weeks in this video, I couldn't believe it :), great video work thanks for sharing with us all, Peace !
Awesome! Just be prepared for the nipping/biting puppy stage, that can be little bit annoying and Labs are big experts on nipping and biting during their puppyhood. Not all of them do it, but most of them do it a lot. Just be prepared for it, it is the only "annoying" thing about their puppyhood, be patient and dont worry, they will grow up from it. Other than that, Labs are incredible puppies (and adults as well). I never had more affectionate, emphatetic, playful, lively, fun to be around dog.
@@Rocadog Hi again, well when I first read your reply about the nipping/biting I just couldn't believe it and thought no way. But boy was I wrong, shortly after reading ur comment my little 3month old black Lab started nipping and biting. He loves to just walk up from behind and nip me on the leg, not hard but you can definitely feel it. and now he gets in moods mostly at night he will start barking at me and snarling incessantly and the nipping too. I' blown away I had one other Lab many years ago and he never did anything like this but this new one sure does. When will he grow out of this stage any idea? Thanks !

I am picking up our first lab at the end of the month. Watching your videos put a smile on my face and I cannot wait for that day I can bring him home. I am wanting to buy him a harness but unsure of the size, he will be 8wks. Can you give me an idea what size should I buy or its better to hold it off? TIA
I would wait and buy the harness in your local pet store for good size. You can easily have your little puppy off leash (you will be faster then them for some time, enjoy it while you can :-D) so they will not run away. And it is actually beneficial, because small puppies have natural instincts to follow their mom and pack, so it will be only natural for them. Of course, in the same time, it is beneficial to teach them how to walk on leash, so i would combine both things.

When I was 1 years old my parents got a black Labrador for free she was also 1 n I basically grew up with her we called her Holly, n one morning when I was 13 we come downstairs and she couldn't move so we had to put her down its the only time iv ever seen my dad cry it still brings a tear to my eye now n I'm 26
I have a lab puppy now and its the first time i'm ever raising one (only had cats before) i am still so lost on what to do, even with all the videos i've been watching. I want her inside the house but my family members are scared when she's overexcited cuz she starts biting and chasing our feet then drama happens🤦🏻♀️
If your puppy is younger than 1 year old, than it is pretty normal that they bite and nip quite a lot. My Lab stopped doing that when he was maybe 9 months old (not sure exactly). They will calm down with the biting as they grow and when they are adults they have very gentle mouth. Just be patient :)

I WOULD KEEP THEM ON A RETRACTABLE LEASH FIRST. BUT WE LIVE IN AN AREA WHERE WE COULD HAVE ZEB OFF HIS LEASE IN THE WOODS AT A VERY YOUNG AGE
WE CARRIED KIBBLE WITH US AND GAVE HIM SOME WHEN HE CAME BACK TO US OR IN PARTICULAR WHEN HE CAME BACK WHEN CALLED. LABS ARE A SMART DOG WITH A GREAT MEMORY

GET READY FOR A VERY, VERY ACTIVE DOG LIKE YOU'VE NEVER SEEN BEFORE. TRACK SHOES MIGHT BE IN ORDER. THAT IF YOUR LAB PUPPY IS ANYTHING LIKE MY RED LAB WAS WHEN HE WAS A PUP. IT WAS TOTAL BEDLAM AT THE VETS. BUT YOU WILL HAVE A DOG THAT IS NOTHING BUT LOVE, (AND PUPPY TEETH FOR THE 1ST 6 MONTHS)
I had a black lad named rex for 13 years. He was my best friend and the most caring dog I have ever encountered. He just wanted to be friends and help everyone. We put him down last October when we found out he had several fast growing and aggressive tumors. His tail kept going until the last second and he laid his head on my dad's lap while he was going. I will never forget him.

I had a black Labrador just like that when I was a teenager and he was a damn good dog too. Very strong as well. His name was Duke and he was good watch dog as well. Along with a German Shepherd and a purebred husky. They'd let us know if we had company or an intruder. But I remember one night, I could hear a police siren and the husky would howl Everytime that happened. But along with her, the other dogs started doing the same thing. Duke and the German Shepherd. Even a couple of years later, we had a beagle and he howled at sirens too. But sadly, all those dogs are gone now. The husky died of natural causes about 12 years ago and the German Shepherd died about 6 months after. Duke got loose one night and ran away. Never saw him again. The beagle, I'm not sure what happened to him. We gave him to a neighbor who was living down the road cause we moved into this house and they had a "no pet" policy on the house. Which I hate about renting places. Anyway those were the best dogs I ever had, they were the world to me and I sure do miss them.

I just lost my lab of 11 years to cancer. I got her the day before she turned 8 weeks and I can still remember the day I brought her home in my mind. Her big feet, puppy breath, razor sharp teeth and the softest little fuzz ball. I'll miss her forever. This video really made me smile and it brought back such happy memories so thanks for sharing! ❤

When i was still living at home we had a black lab. His name was Sam. We had him from 1993 till 1998 ,5 years. He had a hartvalve problem. He was a great dog. Today is sunday 10 april 2022. Greetings from Belgium.

@@RocadogAs if my heartache wasn't enough ..my other 2 and half month old pup died around 2 PM.. I'm devastated...I don't know what's going on ..My lab died of Parvovirus but the other one was completely fine .. He was fine till yesterday morning but he wasn't just eating by the day and today his stomach was growling and he was making strange noises and suddenly died... what's happening!!! I have 2 other dogs at home and I'm so scared for them now..

My Dogs name was Storm. My family got her back in 2006 for free on the internet, she was a black lab/great dane mix but she never grew that big.
She liked going to the woods for a long walk and chasing squirrels around the path like it was going out of fashion, but she loved swimming. She would bark at everything that walked by our house.
Back in 2008We had to sell our house due to everything going on. no matter where we moved after that, we had no choice but to give storm away. I always wanted to take her but my work hours were too much, it would have been unfair to Storm, she was getting older and deserved better. By 2013 My sisters friend took her in and looked after her cause his dog was friends with Storm. We would always visit her when we could.
She passed in 2017. She was the best dog ever and my greatest friend.
RIP Stormy.

I honestly, cried one night without my parents hearing me, because I really wanted a dog. You raised him really well. Please tell me how you managed to control him. Then i might be able to prove to my parents that i am responsible.
There's a lot of online training programs or offline ones jst pick one for u and ur dog not just for ur doggo. Online ones r good because it's a class for u more than ur puppy. If you do everything the way they tell u nd be a good leader nd strict when u have to be, You'll be fine.

Training from day one. Definitely make sure the pup has safe toys to chew on cause Lab puppies are notorious for chewing on everything they can put in their mouths. Otherwise I'd say they are the best dogs on earth. Fun, energetic, loving and protective.

Sorry to disappoint but the chewing doesn’t stop at 4 months. My dog is 11 months and didn’t stop until he was 6 months old. We got him when he was 5 months
I've raised and trained four family pet and gun dog Labs in my lifetime...it has been my experience they stay a puppy until about 2 1/2 years....then they turn into a serious dog.
I had one Lab in the past and he was puppy like his whole life :-D But yes, i agree with you that most of them mature between 2-3 years of age

This brings back so many memories of my now 7 or 8-year-old black lab from when she was a puppy, She was and still is super cute to this day but I always go www when I see the picture of her when she was a puppy being held in my sister's arms.

I’ve always had Cynophobia (fear of dogs), since I’ve had very bad experiences with them. For around 6 years, my family has been begging me to let them get one (the local rescue requires the entire family to agree) and so far I’ve been refusing. Finally, they decided to just screw my opinion and buy one anyways. This dog will be a chocolate Labrador puppy. I’m really, really anxious-I have one question about labs tho. Are they as high energy as everyone says they are? I’m scared that I will never be able to have peace and quiet again. Please respond quickly, I’m really nervous!,
Hello, i understand that it must be hard to accept a dog to your life if you have a fear of them. Yes, Labrador puppies are highly energetic and they want to be friends with everyone. They also nip a lot when they are puppies. It is not a sign of an agression, but you should be prepared for it, they will do it until their teething is done, but later in the adulthood they are super gentle with their mouths. I think that the puppyhood will be the hardest for you, but if you "survive" that period, than there is a big chance that you will find a way to the dog and you might not be scared of it. My grandmother is super scared of dogs (she was attacked by one when she was a kid) and she would never go near by any strange big dog, but after some time she was okay with my Andy and she kinda liked him :)

I’m getting my first lab puppy in two weeks, what techniques and age did you start to train him
I started socializing him the day i brought him home (8 weeks). And you can start with the easiest commands immediatelly as well (teaching them their name or sit). But only do it for few minutes in one session, small puppies can be concentrated only for very short time periods and you dont want to make the training boring for them. It is better to make more short training session, rather than one long. With puppies, i always use only positive reward techniques - always praise them and give them treat when they are doing good job. I have some videos about how i taught my dog sit, stay, come, heel and lay down on this channel if you are interested in that.
