- After the eccentric decade that the 1980s brought with it, the 90s presented a huge shift in culture that included the transition of not only music but all elements of pop culture, including movies. This new decade was all about the gritty realism and technological advancements brought in by cable TV and the internet. This led people to have withdrawals from the over-the-top decade that the 80s had been and the same was extended to the horror genre. As a result of the transition, several sci-fi horror movies suffered and didn’t get the love and appreciation they deserved. This video will bring you a bunch of such films that you must watch and embrace wholeheartedly despite them being creations of the 90s.

I've seen Dark Angel on VHS around the age 8, never gonna forget that experience. It was amazing!
I remember that movie being titles ' I come in Peace'
I Come in peace
Yes I come in peace.Dark angel is poopie angel.
Me too...Well, I was probably 10-11 at the time.
For years I searched for it on DVD and blu-ray to no avail, then I found out it wasn't called I Come in Peace anymore (that's what it was called on cable), but Dark Angel, so now I have the Shout Factory blu-ray. ;)
1. Split Second - 1992
2. Dark Angel - 1990
3. Class of 1999 - 1990
4. Roger Corman's Frankenstein Unbound - 1990
5. Return of the living dead 3 - 1993
6. Cronos - 1993
7. The fire in the sky - 1993
8. The dark half - 1993
9. Cube - 1997
10. Dark City - 1998
11. Screamers - 1995
Class of 1999 was nuts lol
@@SctonThrtn would you recommend it?
@@mcpizzaface yeah if you never seen it before and are into older sci-fi def worth a watch man. Split second was cool too
@@SctonThrtn yeah I saw split second. It was awesome. I am trying to find dark angel now. But awesome then I will watch that one to. Thank you 😊
@@mcpizzaface no probs man,let me know what you think 👍
Great choices. I love all of them. Other underrated gems: Alien 3, Spontaneous Combustion, The Dark Side of the Moon, The Rift, Metamorphosis: The Alien Factor, Shadowzone, Shadow People, Sometimes They Come Back, Doctor Mordrid, Bad Channels, Body Snatchers, Full Eclipse, Brainscan, The Puppet Masters, Death Machine, Natural Selection, Project: Metalbeast, Adrenalin: Fear the Rush, Vampirella, The Relic, Mimic, Progeny, Creature (1998), Virus.
Wow that's an amazing selection of horror movies right there, you have got good taste.👌👌👌
Alien 3 was a copy of aliens. Thats why it sucks.
@@thunberbolttwo3953 Are you serious? Alien 3 was more like Alien (1979). It was criticized by silly Aliens fanatics because it was NOT like Aliens
Virus was great!
Vampirella cannot be underrated. It is so bad that it is good, but it definitely is a bad film and deserves a thrashing. :-)
Dark City is in my top 5 most underrated gems few saw. I adore that film, and if it was not for the Crow being a Masterpiece it would of been Alex P's best directed film
Dark City is in an entirely different league from the rest of these films. It's not really a horror film in the same sense are the others, it is more of a film noir thriller. It also has 1990s Jennifer Connelly in it, which makes it an art movie.
I couldn’t agree more. It is such a great movie. My DVD broke, so I bought it off of Vudu not too long ago. So good.
When Siskel and Ebert were still alive, Gene Siskel named this movie the 'Incredible Sleeper of 1998' as most of the public never saw it. It was incredible then and still holds its value today. What I like the most is the incredible '1940s flavor' it exudes without ever telling us when this is actually taking place.
@@garrick3727 I agree completely. The title should be " 10 Underrated 90's Sci-Fi and one incredible Gem..."
I wonder if Christopher Nolan was inspired by Dark City, for Inception
One underrated movie I really enjoyed was Warlock (1989). Julian Sands really creeped me out as a little kid.
Agreed 💯. Love that film and the start is awesome.
Screamers is also one of my favorite films. Very underrated.
that ending.....
That era truly had a cool aesthetic appeal to films when they actually looked like films no matter quality of contents.
I come in Peace was an outstanding movie!
Dark Angel.. Brilliant Movie
I got to see i come in peace as a video store demo unrated it was great and I couldn't find it until I found out the name was changed
@@daverodda4293 it came out in the US as I come in Peace.
@@Graypaws that's really weird. Totally different name in the UK.. 😂
@@daverodda4293 right, people would describe the movie, then call it Dark Angel and confuse the hell outta me. Lol. Thought there might be two different movies for a while.
These movies were my childhood ahahahahah.
I always loved that Split Second's monster was basically live action Venom.
Dito🎭👍
Yup!
Great new video, and learned so much !! Thank you Marvelous Videos!!
PLEASE let this guy write/record ALL your videos! Thank you for allowing me to enjoy your videos. The quality is excellently good.
Nice list, some of my favorite movies from that time.
I need to watch a few of them, and need to pick up even more physically.
Thanks for reminding me that I Come In Peace also went by Dark Angel, maybe I'll actually find it the next time I look.
I've seen all of these movies when they were first released on cable. The 80's were awesome!
But all these films were released in the 90s?
@@wubalubadubdub9099 late 80's to mid 90's
yup me too.
@@Steven_Williams the Cube 1997, dark city 1998, screemers 1995.
@@wubalubadubdub9099 SO? That doesn't make the 80s any less AWESOME. Does it?
I was hoping to see 'Death Machine' (1994) in your mix. It's got some humour, awesome action and some shocking, brutal deaths...and Brad Dourif is superb !
Yup, this. I was always saying, that Dourif is massively underrated actor. He's actually capable of turning cheesiest of movies into something really interesting all by himself. This is how you recognize a REAL actor (unlike other fancy-looking celebrities, who got on top, because mommies and their daughters like to look on their butts).
And I also love "Death Machine", with all these popculture references, like character names ("Weyland", "Yutani", "Scott Ridley", "Sam Raimi", "John Carpenter") et c.
Also, it was a movie from the "better" times - no political agendas shoved down our throats, no nasty, hypocritical "political correctness". It was wild, meaty, offensive - an entertainig as hell, just like other movies from this list.
Listening to this while I drive home from work... good stuff!
Split second was one of my favorites growing up.
same here
Class of 1999 is soooo freaking amazing. B-movie GOLD!!!
the concept felt more fitting for a manga or anime (i think there are some with it even) I watched the second movie and it was interesting.
I saw Dark City in theatre. There were only few people in the audience. One girl said: "That film was dark..."
And I thought: "Oh really? I wonder why it's called Dark City."
thank you so much!!! I spent 15 years trying to remember the name of this film (class 1999) and I only remembered the images and little of the story (one thing was for sure, it was science fiction), whenever I could I looked for this film and never found it, and today watching list of you guys found the movie!
some i've seen, but omg, what you showing here are hits out of hits. have to see all.
Hardware from 1990 is another violent gem.
I love that Hardware remains off youtube reviewer radar :). Something for those who experienced that decade. No flesh shall be spared.
@@Herne0011 I experienced that decade but only saw this movie last year. Next time I watch it will be with some shrooms.
Split second was awesome, one of my favourite films, still holds up today.
👍👍👍👍👍
Screamers definitely needs more recognition. Second variety was a great story as well.
Split second, one of my favorite Hauer Movies. And Matthias Hues, absolut nice guy 🙂
I think that if u are born in the late 70's,early 80's, u Love cheasy 90's movies 😃
Bruh I have seen Dark Angel, that is a good movie, but it did go by the name “I come in peace”
I also have seen “The fire in the sky” and “Screamers” also great movies
YES, I CAME HERE TO SAY AS MUCH!
Came here to say the same as well 🤣😂💀 dark angel
In Vancouver it was called "I come in peace".
@@michaelhoule2134 in america it's called the same
It was Dark Angel in Australia.
Wow! Cube actually came out 24 years ago. I remember watching it for the first time... I'm old and this moving is still good to this day. The sequels are pretty awesome too.
One time in Malibu i saw Matthias Hues The Dark Angel actor him self waiting in a line. I couldn't snap out of the feeling I was in a 90's flick and I'm the only one aware of the imminent threat to all humanity 😅
Dark city is one of the finest science fiction movies ever made. First came dark city then came The Matrix
Facts
Lol still couldn't be do able to do shit when it comes for reaching benchmarks of sci-fi. Matrix did. And it became one of the greatest movies of all time.
Facts
lawn mower man- johnny mnemonic - dark city----->matrix?
Thanks to this video, I rediscovered the names of at least 10 of my lost VHS tapes.
I loved Screamers as a kid... For a low budget movie, the mate painting still holds up. I believe it's still on Prime video, go check it out
Love your channel
Of my favorites: The "spilt second" love it si much;and yesss Rugert Hauger is actingin it."The cube" is a very imaginative harsh raw reallity take,on what those in reall power are doing to the everyday person. A powerful movie, which was really hard to watch till the end."Dark city" was my type of a rear movie.Which is intriging to watch all the way, with omg moment in the ending."Screamers" makes you think all the time, where the screamers are hiding or if some human will attack you;in a depressing waistland.
Dark Angel...I gave up on finding the source of the few, almost faded memories I had of it. Even began to believe they were just part of something I created myself through dreams and yet here I am finding it by mere chance xD Thx Marvelous Videos
Just made my Friday 😃
Fire In The Sky absolutely TRAUMATIZED me as a kid.
It's I Come in Peace. Dark Angel is some Jessica Alba bullshit.
You guys should check out tubi there's a bunch of obscure movies there
Dark City is criminally underrated!
1999 is my favorite and one we need in the real world no unions just focusing on education and helping children learn and eliminating threats to the decent kids.
Also im re-watching Screamers on Prime and the Davids tag line is synthesized over and over again for the screams while they were going up the elevator
Great video.
I adore split second. Childhood favorite. Seen it 1000s of times.
Please talk about 13th Floor and They Live. Those are really overlooked 90s sci-fi masterpieces in my opinion 🙂
I just watched Split Second last night for the first time in a long time. It still holds up surprisingly well.
“Despite them being creations of the 90s”
Excuse you?
A shout-out for streamers one of the most amazing movies I've ever seen and I even used that world for a tabletop role-playing game for three or four years in college such good material
Dark angel! I saw this when I was kid but never knew what the movie was called. Thank you! Now I’ll watch it again.
Fire in the sky happened in my grandparents town. People around there said it’s true. 🤷🏼♂️ I visited there sometimes. Don’t see any strange ha. It’s middle of nowhere.
It’s happened in Snowflake,AZ. It’s filmed in Oregon though.
No the original title of the movie is I Come in Peace.
@@carloboirard2701 in the UK it was called dark angel, I remember watching it.
"Dark Angel". Man, that brings back some GOOD memories of my childhood. I thought that disc weapon was the coolest thing ever.
I saw Rutger from "Split Second" and had to watch
Dark Angel had one of the COOLEST alien weapons. The CD that tracks humans by their magnetic signature
"It doesn't present any plot holes". Return of the Living Dead starts with a huge plot hole in the series continuity: A reanimated body which has a heartbeat.
Any movie with Rutger Hauer is always worthy of watching.
Great list.
What a great channel.
You think Dolph is a lump but he's an extremely bright guy as well as a serious athlete.
And he has three degrees in chemistry
Great video
Great shout on Split Second - brilliant movie.
This was a list of movies that was a staple on my VCR.. nowall on DVD or BluRay... DAMN fine works of art. I really missed some but what the heck... there's so many
Split Second was actually pretty good. Almost played like an anime. The Rat Creature/K-Mart Xenomorph was a twist that could've went very very bad, but played out well.
Saw Screamers in theatre. Was freaking awesome!!
Great video, not a big fan of that font choice tho. Just my opinion but love the video. I grew up in the 90's so this is right up my alley
Screamers is damn underrated 🔥🔥
Cube needs to be known. I love the idea of this. Hyper Cube not some much but still love it
Cube, love that movie also class of 1998, love those old skools! Dark city, must see gem!
great list
OMG! I've been looking for Split Second (1992) for years. I saw it in VHS as a kid and had nightmares for 3 days 😂. Wanted to see it again but I didn't remember the name of the movie or enough details to do a proper search. As soon I saw the black monster I knew it was this movie. Thanks a lot guys.
Rutger Hauer for the win. Fun video.
The 80s were so awesome they needed another decade..
Ah Yes, the 80s part 2
How about Trump-Pompeo 2020-2024?
@@Nestalgba92023 ? Bru what? Gtfo with politics, we enjoying the 80s part 2
Holy shit. I saw all of them when I was a kid on VHS :)
Excuse my poor Grammer. Screamers is one of the 10 movies I enjoyed regularly with my grandfather along with the thing pet sematary and alien predator nightmare on elm Street and Lost boys I owe that man my gratitude for letting a 6 year old watch them with him 🤟
This is impressive
SPLIT SECOND ( I THINK ) I severely underrated! I don’t know how it wasn’t even a bigger hit when it came out on VHS ( @ the time or DVD LATER ON) I loved that flick!
DARK CITY WAS AMAZING AND SCREAMERS IS/ WAS A CLASSIC!!! I bet ALOT of these films would have a resurgence of popularity if they got a little spotlight and maybe RE RELEASE OR ON TO A STREAMING SERVICE SOMEWHERE !!!
A lot of original stories, we don't have any of this today, just a bunch of super heroes and bang bang bang...
Class of 1999 is here right now!!!
What you called "Dark Angel" has an alternate title, "I Come In Peace". It also has one of the WORST weapons prop masters in the history of the movies. The bar scene next to the pool table has at least 5 different weapons in Dolph Lundgren's hand in the span of 30 seconds in different camera angles. The same thing happens multiple times in other scenes throughout the movie.
Cube has always been one of my fave sci fi horrors
Screamers was great. So good that I saw it twice in the theaters.
Oh great ! What an era it was , even Hollywood itself miss that era . A.P.E.X should include in this list .
Yep just made my day.I actually have seen half of these movies except Cronos and I own maybe some of them..
Screamers was incredible. Was trying to find a movie i haven't seen
0:08 never before noticed that the weird sliding magazine on that guy's shotgun is clearly empty before he starts firing. They didn't even bother to put some prop shells in it!
God, I remember watching Class of 1999 2: The Substitute starring Sasha Mitchell and directed by Albert Pyun. I know and like more Pyun movies then I should admit but that was my teen years, lol. I think Heatseeker was a low key amazing sci Fi fighting movie.
THAT POOR DUDE IN THE FIRE IN THE SKY
1980,s american horror and sc8f8 is a gem
Dark City is awesome. Great sci-fi. One of my favorite.
Most of these movies here is in my collection, Hollywood needs to get back into the game to make great wonders like these again.
You guys "Tuned" a near perfect collection of my favourite films. Opening with my #1 fav Screamers. thankye muchly Cheers
Dark World, if study well, has a lot of German Expressionism, especially from movies like Nosferatu, Cabinet of Dr. Caligari and Metropolis. It has the same feeling in some parts.
Rutger Hauer made me click😳Do not regret it
Dark City's musical score is so good.
When the thumbnail for this is Split Second and I Come In Peace-respect.
Some of these are dead on and some are subject to opinion. Though thanks for reminding me on what movies I need in my collection
Return of the Living Dead also presents like half a dozen scenarios for a zombie-outbreak, it's not just a character-story.
Dark City, Dark Angel and Cube are very well known and appreciated.
Split second is a masterpiece
16:00 A well renowned "actor"? I think you mean writer. 😂Seriously though, this is a pretty good list. Some of my favorite sci-fi/horrors from the 90s.
Alien:"I come in piece." Dolph:"And you go in pieces." 😁
Had almost all of these on dvd.
Fire in the sky scared me to death as a kid.it is supposed to b a true story.I forgot about class of 1999 I loved that movie as a kid.I remember every Friday night HBO would premiere a new b movie and Saturday was the premiere for big budget movies.the best b movie they ever showed was called hollow point.it stared john Lithgow donald Sutherland Tia Carrere and Thomas ian Griffith.it is super awesome for a b movie.another one was the Immortals.it was about a group of people who were dying and get together to commit a crime.if your a fan of good b movies from the 90s I highly recommend both of them
I absolutely love Cube i had seen it at my uncles house when I was like 12 and I just thought it was the best thing ever
Anyone know the movie title of the scene at 0:35?
