I really love all 13 mentions, especially Brainscan, The Cell, The Frighteners, The People Under the Stairs, Arachnophobia and Nightbreed. Sad to know these amazing films were so overlooked in the past. At least now we love and respect them. Alien (1979) & The Thing (1982) also were met with harsh criticism though. The Cell has amazing visuals. Not many people know but they took some inspiration from Madonna's Bedtime Story music video

It blew me away how good and trippy and eerie it was, also liked ghost in the machine, and mans best friend, but they don’t hold a candle to brainscan. Some real gems on this list.
    I think "Arachnophobia" suffers
    from too laughable a tagline:
"Eight legs, two fangs & an attitude".
Makes it sound like a silly spoof.
    The occasional light comedy
never gets in the way of the terror
    or compelling performances.
    Another feather in the cap
    of the amazingly versatile
    Jeff Daniels, with a terrific
    supporting cast, including
    John Goodman, Stuart Pankin,
    Julian Sands & Henry Jones.
    Michael Constantine
    should've won a Best Supporting
    Actor Oscar for "Thinner".
    "The People Under The Stairs"
is a great mixture of horror
    & satirical edge, also with
    great performances. Didn't realize
this was inspired by real events.
    How ominous!
    "Brainscan" & "The Dark Half"--
    also very underrated.
    Surprised this list didn't include
    "Spellbinder" (1988),
    "Stephen King's Sleepwalkers" (1992)--
    King's first time writing
    directly for the screen,
    'Tremors" (1990),
    "Monkey Shines" (1988),
    "Anatomie" (2000)
    &/or "The Serpent
    & The Rainbow" (1988).
Maybe these are on other lists.

The list is great aside from House on the Haunted Hill & 13 Ghosts, that was that trend in the late 90’s early 2000’s with that style of ghosts and such The Grudge, Ring. and so on. Most horror movies from the late 90’s all the way up until recent really sucked IMO, some were amazing though The Cell as you mentioned was great, Tarsem Singh is an underrated genius and I don’t think anything he’d done really got noticed The Fall, Immortals even that Wizard of Oz show he did were all gorgeous. Exorcist III is probably my favorite one maybe cause I seen it in theater when it came out and it still holds up, George C. Scott is the man, and mentioning things seen in theaters The Frighteners is also amazing as is Night Breed.

Hate Arachnophobia. Terrified of spiders. 🙈 The People Under the Stairs is awesome & so creepy! I loved Nightbreed too. I remember playing the game with my cousins when I was little. It scared and delighted me at the same time.

You could do an entire episode on the Dark Castle films. I'll be the first to admit Ninja Assassin may have been a bit cheesey but still enjoyable. Otherwise they were honestly impressive movies. House on haunted hill is a classic (dark castle version).

The film 'The Cell' with JLo, the dream sequence in the desert I am sure was filmed in Namibia - SW Africa ( I may be wrong) but it looks like a place called 'Sopkeswoud' or something like that in German, that means ' Ghosties Wood ' in English. I think its in the Namib Dessert near Sousousvlei, reputedly the highest sand dunes in the world. When I visited 'Ghosties Wood' in the early 90s there was literally only 3 colours visible - red, white, and blue. Then if this was filmed there. then the bizarre lanscape is natural and is not some special effects.
Red earth, bleached white trees and a totally cloudless blue sky - quite remarkable and quite weird, perhaps hence the name 'Ghosties Wood'

Wolfen starring Albert Finney and an early Gregory Hines role as a morgue medical examiner was overshadowed upon its 1981 release by other 'wolf' movies The Howlimg and An American Werewolf in London (Wolfen did receive generally good reviews ... but this horror movie is the rare scary blood letting movie with a point: check out the native Indian backstory relation to the wolves hiding in the city underground, barely ahead of extinction).
Exorcist 3 is on the list for a cult movie that failed at the box office with bad reviews. George C Scott and Brad Douriff shine. I'm sure The Exorcism of Emily Rose was not a success at Box office nor did its story of a priest on trial really garner much praise or excitement, initially. But, EOER excels with Laura Linney (skeptical defense attorney) and Tom Wilkinson as the priest accused of neglect in the death of a young college girl who he says was possessed. Great court room drama (whouda' thunk) with flashbacks of good girl (Jennifer Carpenter) offering some chilling body and facial contortions et cetera. EOER receives good reviews now, but still, does not seem to be mentioned/talked about very often.

This was by far in my top 5 vhs tapes that I would record from rented blockbuster movies! Along with NBK natural born , the doors , fear and loathing ,lost highway , all the alien movies. I used to get stoned and watch this like daily this movie deserved a academy award for visual effects and set desig. And it actually had a good plot and I was rooting for the killer. The scenes of like all his victims like on they’re cells like his barbie dolls when he was a kid, the horse getting split into slabs and u can see it’s insides still operating and the torture scene was cute I gotta see this again I ha went watched it I. Years …

Thinner would have been more successful had they went with the more horrific makeup. If any of you haven’t seen “The Exorcist III” it really is a fantastic movie. It was hard to get some of my friends to watch it after the flop that was E II. The Cell is what got me into Vincent D’Nofrio I even watched that Law and Order he was in. There is a really good cover of Don’t Fear The Reaper at the end of Frighteners. These clips brought back some good memories.

GREAT list, first of all. And secondly, my bad..., you had Night Breed in there... that will teach me to wait till the end to comment! Lol
Exorcise 3 was a really good movie but, unfortunately, Exorcist 2 sucked donkey dung! It kind of killed the enthusiasm for the third movie. I don't remember as big of a marketing campaign for 3 either...
Trick R Treat 8s my all time FAVORITE Halloween movie... While Jack's tale is great, my favorite is the "bring a dork to dinner" segment. We also get to see a couple of endings to different tales within it. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this movie for Halloween or any other night! It IS the It's a Wonderful Life for Halloween, just not aired near as much. You can usually catch it on SiFi channel around Halloween... it is starting to get a lot of airplay around then on that and other channels....
