    1. Event horizon - clearly revering to hellraiser
    2. In the mouth of madness (my favorite horrormovie of all time)

Society, Martyrs and the Void are absolutely stunning. Society has a very tounge in cheek humour along with the twisted gore, Martyrs and the Void are just brutal in the darkest way and are just epic films.
To be fair, Event Horizon is comparable to Hellraiser...Hellraiser in space if you will and is also stunning....you have to go back to Lovecrafts writing to appreciate him as most adaptations of his work are not authentic and have significant plot changes but either read or listen on audio book...his writing is intense and engrossing and well worth the effort.

Here's an important note for all directors and writers out there, leaving your ending "open" to allow the viewer to draw their own conclusions, is lazy, and screams that you couldn't come up with one on your own, or were to afraid to take a chance and risk bad reviews because of your chosen ending. If viewers wanted to interpret our own endings, we would read a "choose your own adventure" book, or write our own story. But what's for sure, is we HATE open endings with no resolution.

I feel like what makes The Void so great, aside from flying almost completely under most radars, is that you have no idea what to expect, namely because at the start of the film, it feels sorta trashy, aimless, and low-budget; your expectations take a bit of a nosedive until instantly your mind is left flailing to catch up with the rapidly developing insanity coming at it.

'Martyrs' was great, but as mentioned, I probably don't want to see it again. That ending will dwell with you for a while.
'The Void' was okay but bipolar. It's not explained which frustrated me. Here's the situation...ready? Go! It ultimately made no sense and had continuity issues that, as noted, remain unexplained. It will lose you entirely in places.
Looking forward to checking out the rest.

Does anybody know this movie from the 70s or 80s? It's a movie in which there are warlocks or wizards who live in modern day America. The movie takes place in the city, and there is a gruesome scene in a public restroom in which a warlock murders someone by using his magic to telekinetically pick up some nearby newspaper. He then whirls the paper into a vortex, which kills the guy by repeated paper cuts. Saw it when I was a kid and never could find it on RUclips.

When "The Platform" aired on NETFLIX I was immediately hooked and fascinated... disgusted and amazed. I like movies which have so little (speaking of budget, sets and few actors) and create so much at the same time! "The Cube" is another example and it's right next to "The Platform" on my list. I can also suggest "The Circle" which is similar in many ways!
