There `s a very interesting theory that explains the importance of The Butcher and gives the entire storyline and alternative ending a whole new meaning. According to this theory, Travis has an alter ego, result of the hatred he feels towards his mother for trying to kill him; this alter ego would be a serial killer of women. If reviewing the game from this perspective, there are many sings of this, such as the fact Travis can travel between mirrors, seeing himself as a good and bad version of himself, and the only bathroom mirrors he can travel through are on female toilets; this could mean he murders women on public bathrooms on the road, and therefore that`s the reason why there are several women in the bad ending screaming, some of them claiming they`re not his mother. The Butcher is not meant to torment Travis, such as Pyramid Head with James, but to show his alter ego, and therefore that`s why half of his face is covered and why in his first appeareance he`s murdering a nurse by gushing through her guts and reproductive organs, as in a show of despise towards motherhood. Along with this, the reason the Butcher is not a hard boss is because he`s just a part of Travis, and that`s the reason he can also grab his giantic blade so easily, because he`s The Butcher. This also would explain why Travis can get so particularly violent with monsters in comparison to other SH protagonists. It`s basically sort of a Jekyll and Mr. Hyde concept theory. Idk, after I found out about this whole theory, which sounds extremely plausible, this game took a lot of new meaning for me and I apreciated it far more in creative terms. I really liked it, and thought it made the game much more deep and interesting.
Good theory! It might explain the pictures of victims I could find closer to the end of the game. Because I had no idea what they were doing there... I'll keep that in mind! Thank you!
@@GrandGamingChannel Oh yes, I forgot, the pictures in the room where the Butcher is standing are part of the theory, meaning he keeps pictures of his victims`s bodies. It is believed those pics might be the ones shown in the intro of the game; there`s a bit where some pictures are seen in the background of Travis`s truck, or that it implies he has them hidden somewhere in the truck but carries them around. Thank you for pinning my comment, wow! I love your SH video series so much

The Butcher has a lot of lore behind it. There is a theorie that Travis is a serial killer, and the Butcher, just like Pyramidhead is a manifestation of that. And the theorie has a lot of substance mainly in the bad ending where we hear Travis kill Women calling them Mom and Men calling them Dad. Also Travis has a lot of polaroids in his Truck and there is a hidden room you can peek in, where you can see the butcher whit polaroids of murder victims. There also is the fact that Travis is not shocked by seeing the Butcher cuting a Nurse in half, and he also swings the Butchers Clever like its nothing
You might be right. Good theory! It might explain the pictures of victims I could find closer to the end of the game. Because I had no idea what they were doing there... I'll keep that in mind! Thank you!
Damn! Because of the enemies that resemble animals and the butcher, I believed throughout all the game that at some point they would show that Travis helped in a farm where they butchered animals or something. Because all of his fears seem to revolve around killing farm animals. But they never showed that in the story which brought me here to look for clues. It even made more sense to me when he said he felt repulsed when he watched the stuffed animal trophies on the wall. This theory shook my world and understanding of the story.
Seriously, thank you so much... We truly enjoy your videos covering this memorable game series of Survival Horror. Hope you will cover "Resident Evil" sometime in the future. 😊
I wanted it to be a surprise, but yeah, probably one more video about The Evil Within, and RE next. It's not as deep and full of symbolism as SH, but it's a great series of games and worth taking about.
@@GrandGamingChannel - Yes, I COMPLETELY agree that SH's style of Survival Horror symbolizes and uses humanities' deepest psychological issues such as fear, pain, hate, despair, loneliness and regret to create each individual's own world in which they face their strongest psychological problems manifested in a unique form within their minds (like James with Pyramid Head). That's what makes it stand out very well from the other game titles. And I agree that "Resident Evil" is more a Horror Series that relies on science and the consequences of humanity's tampering with nature's most dangerous microscopic viruses. However, what truly makes the series special in its own way is the evolution of the series' protagonists and their own journeys to save the world from the ever-growing threats of Bio Organic Weapons, which began from a greedy pharmaceutical company... to now ending in the hands of global terrorists. I truly believe that you can cover the stories of Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Claire Redfield, Leon Kennedy and their associates in a fascinating style just like you did with SH and it's own memorable protagonists. 😊
Origins always felt like a small dark story to me, really loved the style of static/grainy 70's look on the PS2 version and I like the story it told about Travis and Alessa and while I agree that there is little connection to the two in the way of Travis being in Alessa's life, that's somewhat what makes Travis one of the more heroic protagonists of the series, he saved her cause he felt he needed to, and Travis' personal story of childhood trauma and his connection to Silent Hill is very much like Alessa's own tragic story. His final act in saving her is probably one of the most tragically bittersweet moments in the series to me, up there with Cheryl's death, Alex and Josh and SM Harry's death. As always, really enjoyed your video and love your fair critique, while also focusing on the positives. Really hope you do the same for Homecoming as it's one of my favorites and gets a lot of unjust hate.

Travis can stun lock some monsters with punches, what a bad ass. I have very fond memories of Origins, it was one of the many psp games I own that I revisit at least once a year.
PSP Origin's is the real game, although I do think PS2's port has some nice additions that I think while can be criticized, actually add to the atmosphere.

The cutscene at the theater between Lisa, and Travis seems like a nod to the movie Mulholland Drive where Diane does the acting audition with the old man.

Everyone knows Kojima do good games, but in this case i think he "maybe" could fuck SH, the reason? His principal fortitude is things about technology, and political-militar drama, that's why he call Guillermo del Toro and Junji Ito, who handle horror better but don't know nothing about videogames, only seeing the Death Strand shorts give a glimpse about what things maybe should be incorporated in SH, It maybe don't being a bad game, but it was so different so it's hardly a SH anymore, and that way of adding exaggerated complexity to the story which SH already have maybe made more heavy to follow; Again certainly be a good game, but not a SH game

Honestly I think the biggest problem with this game is that Travis's story is secondary to Alyssa's story. If his had been the main plot, I think it could of been much better.
The butcher could represent his suppressed feelings about doctors and what he had to go through after his mother's attempt at killing him and treating her as for the whole mirrors in the ladies rooms it could be the representation of him not being able to trust women after the incident with his mother seeing them as two-faced one sweet and proper and the other the disordered opposites twisted and ugly.
Awesome Video! The only thing is that it was Climax USA who originally started development and wanted to make it a dark comedy and an over the shoulder shooter. When Konami saw the mess, it was given to Climax UK who fixed it.
Even with all the game faults, it is still one of my favorite psp games. Just the novelty of having a portable horror game in your hands just clicks to me, and i think the game has much deeper meaning on what we realize.
I quite enjoyed Origins. Not as good as I-IV but a good effort. Some players have hypothesised that The Butcher was symbolic of Travis actually being a serial killer and, thus, being a representation of his inner psyche. It's quite a nice idea but it doesn't really fit with his personality in my opinion. After all, he's horrified at what The Butcher does to its first victim. It would, however, be a good explanation as to why Travis was 'drawn' to Silent Hill although, in order for that to work, the idea would have developed - which it definitely isn't in the game.
I'd love to see them remake Origins. I played on PSP and beat the game several times, to this day is still one of the most influential pieces of media to me personally. Would be AMAZING to see the origin of Silent Hill refreshed and renewed. Could also pave the way for a proper reboot of the franchise (if Konami would ever get off their ass and give that a go)
4:25 there is NO DOUBT that is 1983. A typeface is used and knowing this allows us to know that every letter is an exact copy of itself. Just like here. Every “A” looks like this > A. So, when you see the bottom of the 8 in 1983 at this time code we can see the bottom of the last character has an extended loop on the underside compared to the 8 that presides it. I rest my case your honor.
Wow brother. Honestly with every one of these videos you put out I hope and pray someone at Konami sees how much time, effort and hard work you put into these videos and for once puts the fans ahead of their profit margin. 😞 Wishful thinking I guess. Thanks for the videos bro. Waiting eagerly for the next installment even though it was the worst IMHO. Stay blessed 🙏
Come to think of it, I never really put together that Travis only sees Alessa in his truck mirror and not in reality, guess that was foreshadowing that she didnt completely exist yet
With the newest dev builds of PCSX2 you can use the Vulkan renderer which completely fixs the flashlight glitch! I have a video on my RUclips channel showing this in action, as well as true 60fps and upscaled HD textures. The game looks amazing now.
What bothers me so much about origins is that Travis has absolutely no "why", it feels so aimless and random, why would he go to the sanitarium after the hospital? What was he thinking, what did he go look for there? Is he still searching for Alessa? If so, why? Lisa told him she was dead? If not, did he change his focus? Does he want to be in silent hill? Is he there for himself or to find alessa? The game tells us nothing, after the hospital he just appears to be there to "go through silent hill" for some unknown reason, why if you can just leave? There is no point in him staying there after the hospital level, I really want to know why he decided to stay
I finished now all SH History Videos. Amazing videos. However, if I can give you one feedback improvement, please lower the Games Audio or increase your Voice Audio, it was sometimes really frustrating all the time tweaking the audio volume Up and Down because the Games Audio was annoyingly loud especially with all those weird monster sound effects. some videos were good but some others not at all.
A lot of people didn’t like this one but I enjoyed it thoroughly. I liked the atmosphere of the town and the flow of the game it was well done in my opinion being that it was made for psp
It's sad to think that this was my first silent hill and I considered it really good, genuinely scared the hell out of me, I was a "Grownup" 14 y.o. boy back then and had to play it either in the morning or with the lights on, really disturbing, but in a good way. When you said that it quite didn't hit the mark like the old ones i went on watching the other videos, and I have to say that might be true, but I hold it close to my heart regardless.
Two Back is a direct reference to the phrase "Making the beast with two backs" which is itself a euphamism for having sex (because while facing each other, they would look almost like 1 being with 2 backs)
If all this took place before silenthill 2 how come Mary and James could've visited Silenthill? Even finding it peaceful and naming it their special place? Wouldn't there be monsters there already?
Silent Hill works on different planes. When Mary and James first visited SH James hadn't killed his wife and thus wasn't transported in the fog world/other world because he had no sins to feel guilty for. The second time around, however,he had killed his wife and thus the city took the form of his own personal hell. Plus, the paranormal activity in SH didn't originate from Alessa, she just happened to have psychic powers that would be able to suck other people in her OWN hell. The city itself was built on an ancient native american burial ground. The natives considered the place sacred and communed with some of their gods, which we can suppose are the true source of the city's power. That's why, even if the thing with Alessa had happened after sh2, it would make sense.
So people are going to hate me but I think Silent Hill Origins is the 3rd best game in the series. If this was a rando survival horror game it would be a classic but because it has the Silent Hill moniker it's held to a different standard.
I actually really appreciated this game. Now I was young when I played it, so there is some nostalgia, but looking back, I really liked this game. It had a decent runtime, stayed true to the series, and had great replay value. The developers did an amazing job transferring that sense of dread that Silent Hill gives, over to a portable system. The gaming mechanics also weren’t horrible. 7.5/10 for me !
2:16 it says this game contains things that could be considered violent and disturbing. shooting a monster in the face... that could be considered violent and disturbing, like you know it COULD. but it's not.
They should have just ditched the attempt at a prequel that created plot holes. They could have had Travis's story taking place during the same time, although I'm not sure how his mother was seeing th e otherworld if it hadn't been created yet. Great video.
I love horror games and I play everyone I can get my hands on. My intro to the series was the vita dungeon crawler... so i've never played another silent hill game until PT. Now I experience these games through your videos and I pray that yugioh duel links makes konami so much money that a good port would be a drop in the bucket... I wont hold my breath
btw there was a woman peeking beside the burning house what about that man? bro there are so many questions in this game !! i was a kid when i played this . but now im so curious. nice vid man but still so many questions :/
Will you be visiting other franchises such as Resident Evil? Or Cold Fear? I hope you get more time to expand your channel and produce more great videos I love them all so far
Actually silent hill took place in 1991. Silent hill 2 took place in 1994. Silent hill 3 took place in 2008. That would mean origins took place in 1984 since it's correct that it was 7 years prior to silent hill. Idk where you got your info from but this is what I found on Google.

Awesome Video! The only thing is that it was Climax USA who originally started development and wanted to make it a dark comedy and an over the shoulder shooter. When Konami saw the mess, it was given to Climax UK who fixed it.
That music, gets me every time
Channel deserves more views
Even with all the game faults, it is still one of my favorite psp games. Just the novelty of having a portable horror game in your hands just clicks to me, and i think the game has much deeper meaning on what we realize.
Very interesting to give credit to Ambrose Bierce's An Occurrence on Owl Creek Bridge. Kinda dose set the mood for it
Notification squad hehe. I left my work to watch it good luck mate keep up and bring more like this pls. Maybe a gameplay of the suffering pls hehe :)
So excited when I saw this video pop up!!
Could also pave the way for a proper reboot of the franchise (if Konami would ever get off their ass and give that a go)
Helen Grady: Come here boy! Let momma have a look at you.
Travis: Momma NO!
I laugh every time I see that scene where travis in panic trying to open the door lol I don't know why I find it funny

Been waiting for this one!!
Very dark story behind the protagonist. Awesome coverage on the video man.
Wow brother. Honestly with every one of these videos you put out I hope and pray someone at Konami sees how much time, effort and hard work you put into these videos and for once puts the fans ahead of their profit margin.
😞
Wishful thinking I guess.
I think it's interesting how you can see a clear divide in the prior games. You can really tell what ones were influenced by the movie
How come the episodes on the playlists are out of order?
I love Silent Hill so much! Played the most with Ps 2 & 3 ... And I miss it!!
Don't think you've done Homecoming? Awesome videos. Your voice is soothing to fall asleep to.
That will be the last one. Really looking forward to that one as it's one of my favorites.
So Travis was not driving a Peterbilt 379 but a 359.
The hooded figure that runs in the road in the intro was originally supposed to be kaufman
Passing out is just how Travis gets around.
if Travis bought his truck to the Silent Hill, the game will end much faster with roadkill and destroying the building with a crash
Man, I like your voice! More importantly, the video is great. You earned a sub and a like :)
You gay
Okay what about the giant huge library that he can find in the auditorium ?
I finished now all SH History Videos. Amazing videos.
However, if I can give you one feedback improvement, please lower the Games Audio or increase your Voice Audio, it was sometimes really frustrating all the time tweaking the audio volume Up and Down because the Games Audio was annoyingly loud especially with all those weird monster sound effects.
some videos were good but some others not at all.
A lot of people didn’t like this one but I enjoyed it thoroughly. I liked the atmosphere of the town and the flow of the game it was well done in my opinion being that it was made for psp
They need to do a remake of this!!!!!!!
Are you doing a video for homecoming?
Sure
Great video bruh
Can't wait for the next reupload of Slient Hill
Agreed. I enjoyed this game. Only thing that really annoys me is the slight delay when pressing the run button to make Travis run.
2:16 it says this game contains things that could be considered violent and disturbing.
shooting a monster in the face... that could be considered violent and disturbing, like you know it COULD. but it's not.
SH1 plus 0rigins are suddenly back up on the playstation store fyi
As a kid I played those games because my brother owned them . I never finished the first mission but played it for hours....
i just realized this game is highly cinematic :')
This theme song is the reason why I'm here
They should have just ditched the attempt at a prequel that created plot holes.
So ehhhhhhh, where's your video on Homecoming?
btw there was a woman peeking beside the burning house what about that man? bro there are so many questions in this game !! i was a kid when i played this . but now im so curious. nice vid man but still so many questions :/
