I picked up my father in laws one owner 93 RamCharger in 2003 that was a 20,000 mile truck that had been off the road for 7 years. The truck needed brakes, tires, exhaust, spark plugs and a fuel system clean from sitting outside in Michigan. It was a fairly loaded truck with a 360 4x4 with heavy duty suspension for towing or a plow. I drove it for 18 months and sold it for the deal of the year to my brother with 33,000 miles in near mint condition for $3,500 i wish I had it back.
I fought to buy my uncles after he passed and finally got it 2 years later luckily for me it ran and drove with a gas can under hood and air in the tires it just didn't stop so I got to drive it a little then it quit stopping again
I honestly would love to see someone make a custom conversion of the tailgate of an old Chevrolet/GMC pickup truck into being like the modern Chevrolet/GMC pickup truck and also add the custom tool box storage areas that are in modern Dodge Ram pickup trucks.
Back in high school a buddy had a 74 Charger and had 3 or 4 of those ignition modules in his garage at any one time. Seemed like he change them every 6 months. The parts stores always had a good supply!
That's my favorite Dodge/Plymouth truck body style. Those late 70's Ram Chargers are cool! This will make a great off roader with the front solid axel.

There’s literally one in Greece, very close to my neighbourhood, thing is abandoned for less than 5yrs outside a shop, things here don’t get rusty at all, the only thing that happens to a car right here is dents if the owner doesn’t take care of it, or paint fading, other than that, cars are never rusty with even the original paint underneath, it would be a great revival
If you drive one of these old Dodges, you need a few things with you at all times. 1) An ignition module 2) A ballast resistor 3) Voltage regulator. Those items and the tools to put them on will usually get you home.

Short story about the wasps In early 2020, the company i work for decided to build a tractor trailer tanker truck. Covid hit , market sunk and they parked the trailer outside in the back 40. Just last week, they pulled it into the shop and decided we were ready to build it to sell as a stock unit as times are somewhat better now. It sat outside completely open for over a year, so there was wasp nests galore, spiders, and a dead bird inside. I was in there putting the anti surge baffles in and felt very insecure in a confined space with no easy quick exit 🤣. Managed to not get stung though

And if that was not enough, after opening the drivers door, you said "fancy door panels." Good grief, this is a sign from the good Lord. Ive been looking for something older to pull a small Travel trailer (newer trucks are crazy expensive), and have been leaning towards a Trailduster or Ramcharger. This seals it for me.
Be careful towing with any blazer/duster etc style trucks there shirt wheels based dont lend well to towing. Bigger trailers unless you know how to haul have a tendency to fishtail.

@@Ironwind1972 Tongue weight for anything any truck can realistically tow is a function of the hitch rating as long as the trailer weight is balanced correctly. For a 3k-4500 trailer you shouldn't bee seeing over 300-450 lbs of tongue weight. On any vehicle but critical for a SWB is to avoid being tail heavy in the trailer. The more tail heavy, the more the trailer will sway and the more likely a jacknife in a hard stop. Balanced or slightly front biased will make sway pretty much self correcting. A trailer towing vehicle should have extra careful care taken with the suspension as well. Bushings, shocks, and steering are important for any vehicle but towing will quickly make an issue you didn't even know you had a potential disaster.
I remember my brother had a 77 trailduster sport. Two tone brown, had a 360 small block with low miles, body was in great shape for its age, just had a few dry-rotted parts like tires hoses etc. Lot of fun to drive when fixed.

We had one of these when I was a teen in the 80's. Growing up in north east Idaho. 400 cubic inches, full time 4 wheel drive, removable hard top. Did well in deep snow , mud, even had some fun driving in and out of gravel pits. Good memories.
Excellent video Dylan :) also remember my late on Fire Department used those trucks for carry men to fire calls and second used for carry stuff need supplies like water pumps and hoses plus much more at 2 stations in Country area were I live !
Hey Dylan. Been watching you guys for several years now and I always love seeing all these classics getting put back on the road. Couldn't help but notice that when you were first getting the Trail Duster fired up in the field that there was what looked to be a Power Wagon pickup behind you. I find that very interesting! Way back in the '80s I worked at a transmission / engine rebuilding shop up here in New Jersey and the owner had a Brown 4 wheel drive Power Wagon AND a green and white Trail Duster that we used for our shop trucks. I drove both of them many times and on a daily basis. You didn't happen to get those rigs in a package deal from NJ did you? Wow. Your Plymouth Trailduster brings back some memories. Long story short, I bought one used and abused, rebuilt her, and loved her cause she was mine. Sold her to a friend whom still has her, and then purchased an Oldsmobile Omega. It's a Chevy Nova, but Olds badge.
Wow, never realized that Plymouth had their own version of the Ramcharger! Not gonna lie, I'd love to have one of those! Fuel injection, bluetooth radio, modern conveniences and reliability while keeping the aesthetics and interior mostly original, perfect daily driver right there!
I owned a 79 Trailduster sport brown and cream I remember well all the electrical and carb problems It ran great in the sun but if it rained would stumble and stall. But was great in the snow bad on gas. The top was a bugger to put back on would leak. My floors rusted out too. I wish I kept it.
Wasn't the Thermoquad basically a plastic carburetor? I think I saw an episode of Roadkill where they pulled the 440 out of an RV to swap into General Mayhem.
At about the 14:40 minute mark while you were changing the tire I thought “ that’s a pretty cool finned diff cover” . Then I realized those are dirt daubers. Thanks for saving another one from the crusher or rotting away. I thinks it’s better to enjoy as is than to do a full resto.

Nice! Pymouth Traildusters are pretty darn rare now days! I had a 1985 ramcharger bought new that we used to haul things and plow snow with on the farm for over 20 years. Road salt rust issues finally made us park it....wish we took better care of it back then it was one reliable truck.

I worked for a land survey company for years and we had a pair of ‘78 Traildusters that we wailed the tar out of on the job. I can tell you that they will catch air even with probably 500lbs of equipment in the back. The only that held ours back was the company would only put summer tires on them.

This video brought back some memories…. My dad brought home one of these when I was younger and it was literally just a pile of rust. He tried to do all kinds of patchwork to it to try to save it from being scrapped because the motor and everything underneath worked just fine. Well the day finally came where had to get rid of it and before my dad took it away I quickly grabbed the cigarette lighter from it. That thing has been in every car I’ve ever owned and still works.
Had a 85 Ramcharger back some time ago. Lost one cylinder on my way out of the woods and drove it about 5 miles to get it home. Replaced one rod one piston and one set of rings. Lasted me another couple of years until the top end went sour. Miss that truck still !!!
Definitely a cool Plymouth, will make a nice off road rig. My friend in high school had a ram charger around the same year. His had a 440 in it but it never did run very well back then. Best of luck with it and thank's for sharing!
These were badass trucks and would go just about anywhere. I owned 2, a 75 and an 85 and I loved them. They rode rough as hell, were crude, and very hard to see out of, but I had many good times off road with these

I had a '73 D100 4X4 with a 318 and 727TF in it. I broke a valve guide, and a coworker sold me a set of 360 heads for $20. I took those to local drag racing shop (who was known for porting and polishing 454 heads) had him port match those 360 head to my intake I bought. That truck was awesome.
the coolest SUV ever. my Buddy had one his father bought off an Idaho game preserve auction. I had an internal cage. someone had split up the rear seat and installed folding jumper seats like a Defender. the rear area was huge. he always carried his hibachi grill, a cooler, umbrella, camping gear, and surfboard. perfect vehicle hooking up with chicks in Southern California. it had manual locking hubs, c.b. radio, rifle rack and a space heater.
Hey Dylan, I'd absolutely love to see you do a full restore on something like this with plenty of character. I absolutely loved the Challenger series, but would love to see you take something even further. Nothing wrong with loving the "ratty" look, but a full restoration would be absolutely awesome and something I think a lot of people would love to see.

Ahhhhhhh that classic MoPar Starter sound from the late 60's and 70's!! Had a 78 Ramcharger with a 360 that belonged to the county I bought at Auction. Enjoyed it but needed an actual truck, so away it went.

We had a mid 80s Ramcharger which was a former police vehicle when I was a teenager and I have searched high and low to find one to restore on the east coast of Canada. No such luck. I love these vehicles.
My father bought one of these in 1983, I think it was a 75 or 76, same motor and drivetrain. He had a guy cut the hardtop down and made it a super short bed pickup and the back hatch (top still removable) was moved forward to a piece of custom forward bed. Exhaust was changed for Glaspacks with pipes coming out ahead of the rear wheels. I was hoping to get it but it turned in a new Dodge Ramcharger which he left stock exhaust for slight suspension work for bigger wheels and tires. I was hoping to get it was it was traded for a First Gen Cummins dually. These trucks are super difficult to find these days.

Dylan, I think the previous votes for a Challenger approach are right on. That had a beautiful patina vs built balance. This would look great with prime drivetrain and interior, and the outside straight but rustic. Great job as always. Peace and happiness, man!
My best friend had this exact same truck. Same color and patina. That could be his old truck. It was a beast in the mood. He had an early 80s Ram Charger that he put a built 318 in and had a removable top. Man those trucks were fun!!!
I like the Trailduster the green and white color combo is nice 👌. It didn’t help to leave it in the field for 2 years, this will give you more work to fix it. It would be nice to see it fixt up to it’s former glory.
Cool SUV, one day I hope to own a full size variety rig with a removable top, I owned a 79 FS Bronco, and am leaning towards a FS Blazer, but this is just wishful thinking on my part, has to be a manual trans too, I'm done with automatics, lol. You may want to go ahead and keep those ignition modules if it's not to late. I had one that, the protective coating melting like that and it still works fine.
They are cool trucks. You can run a 32-10.50 tire on them, but anything larger will rub when you turn, and push the bottom of the fender into the door if you're turning and hit a bump. Don't ask how I know. lol.

I had an '83 Ramcharger best vehicle I ever owned. You should add glass packs and a 4-barrel carb. Nothing better when trying not to get buried you'd be surprised how high you can throw mud!!!

Yeah, those wheels are Western Wheels Bullets. I just restored a set of 15x8's for my 83 Capri RS. They polish up nice with some wet sanding and some Mothers. I was able to find perfect fitting repop centers on ebay for cheap.

The early trail dusters are cool . I don’t know if you really noticed but you put trail duster tires on your trail duster.

I like your taste in old iron. I was one of a handful of Mopar guys in high school. Had a 73 Dart Sport, 318 buckets, console. I think you'd be cool to spend a day wrenching with.
Nice! Pymouth Traildusters are pretty darn rare now days! I had a 1985 ramcharger bought new that we used to haul things and plow snow with on the farm for over 20 years. Road salt rust issues finally made us park it....wish we took better care of it back then it was one reliable truck.

I worked for a land survey company for years and we had a pair of ‘78 Traildusters that we wailed the tar out of on the job. I can tell you that they will catch air even with probably 500lbs of equipment in the back. The only that held ours back was the company would only put summer tires on them.

Man this brings back memories! My Dad was service manager at don jordan Chrysler Plymouth in Beachwood Ohio had a 1979 Trailduster sport factory demo. Black with red interior! Love it!
This video brought back some memories…. My dad brought home one of these when I was younger and it was literally just a pile of rust. He tried to do all kinds of patchwork to it to try to save it from being scrapped because the motor and everything underneath worked just fine. Well the day finally came where had to get rid of it and before my dad took it away I quickly grabbed the cigarette lighter from it. That thing has been in every car I’ve ever owned and still works.

These trucks are fairly rare, l would like to see you do a full restoration on it . At the end of the day it's up to you, but it is worthy.
Had a 85 Ramcharger back some time ago. Lost one cylinder on my way out of the woods and drove it about 5 miles to get it home. Replaced one rod one piston and one set of rings. Lasted me another couple of years until the top end went sour. Miss that truck still !!!
Definitely a cool Plymouth, will make a nice off road rig. My friend in high school had a ram charger around the same year. His had a 440 in it but it never did run very well back then. Best of luck with it and thank's for sharing!
These were badass trucks and would go just about anywhere. I owned 2, a 75 and an 85 and I loved them. They rode rough as hell, were crude, and very hard to see out of, but I had many good times off road with these

I had a '73 D100 4X4 with a 318 and 727TF in it. I broke a valve guide, and a coworker sold me a set of 360 heads for $20. I took those to local drag racing shop (who was known for porting and polishing 454 heads) had him port match those 360 head to my intake I bought. That truck was awesome.
the coolest SUV ever. my Buddy had one his father bought off an Idaho game preserve auction. I had an internal cage. someone had split up the rear seat and installed folding jumper seats like a Defender. the rear area was huge. he always carried his hibachi grill, a cooler, umbrella, camping gear, and surfboard. perfect vehicle hooking up with chicks in Southern California. it had manual locking hubs, c.b. radio, rifle rack and a space heater.
Gotta get myself something like that to tinker with. Love the 70s square body trucks.
Hey Dylan, I'd absolutely love to see you do a full restore on something like this with plenty of character. I absolutely loved the Challenger series, but would love to see you take something even further. Nothing wrong with loving the "ratty" look, but a full restoration would be absolutely awesome and something I think a lot of people would love to see.
My dad has a 1987 Ramcharger that we use to plow snow. I thought it was a Ramcharger in the thumbnail until i read the title. Ive never heard of one of these

Love the Mopar content of your channel. Hearing the starter motor turn over is so familiar. My own Aust. Chrysler VF Valiant (69) sounds the same. It is like being home.

Ahhhhhhh that classic MoPar Starter sound from the late 60's and 70's!! Had a 78 Ramcharger with a 360 that belonged to the county I bought at Auction. Enjoyed it but needed an actual truck, so away it went.

We had a 74 Trailduster back in the day, called her "Dusty"
So cool that the front tires say Trail Duster in white letter! Too bad they're most likely ancient and toast.
We had a mid 80s Ramcharger which was a former police vehicle when I was a teenager and I have searched high and low to find one to restore on the east coast of Canada. No such luck. I love these vehicles.
My father bought one of these in 1983, I think it was a 75 or 76, same motor and drivetrain. He had a guy cut the hardtop down and made it a super short bed pickup and the back hatch (top still removable) was moved forward to a piece of custom forward bed. Exhaust was changed for Glaspacks with pipes coming out ahead of the rear wheels. I was hoping to get it but it turned in a new Dodge Ramcharger which he left stock exhaust for slight suspension work for bigger wheels and tires. I was hoping to get it was it was traded for a First Gen Cummins dually. These trucks are super difficult to find these days.
I had one it was ordered from the factory with a 4speed and a 440

Dylan, I think the previous votes for a Challenger approach are right on. That had a beautiful patina vs built balance. This would look great with prime drivetrain and interior, and the outside straight but rustic. Great job as always. Peace and happiness, man!

My best friend had this exact same truck. Same color and patina. That could be his old truck. It was a beast in the mood. He had an early 80s Ram Charger that he put a built 318 in and had a removable top. Man those trucks were fun!!!

I like the Trailduster the green and white color combo is nice 👌. It didn’t help to leave it in the field for 2 years, this will give you more work to fix it.

Cool SUV, one day I hope to own a full size variety rig with a removable top, I owned a 79 FS Bronco, and am leaning towards a FS Blazer, but this is just wishful thinking on my part, has to be a manual trans too, I'm done with automatics, lol.
I like the Toyota truck that showed up in the background when you moved it. I owned a 2wd 87 4 speed manual version.

You may want to go ahead and keep those ignition modules if it's not to late. I had one that, the protective coating melting like that and it still works fine.
They are cool trucks. You can run a 32-10.50 tire on them, but anything larger will rub when you turn, and push the bottom of the fender into the door if you're turning and hit a bump. Don't ask how I know. lol.

Awesome videos keep them coming I have owned 19 dodge vehicles in my life love the mopars my first vehicle as a teen my grandpa bought 3 1991 dodge w150s 2 with solid back glass and 360’s and one with a 318 and sliding rear window of course that’s the one I still have today with 87,000 miles on it.

I had an '83 Ramcharger best vehicle I ever owned. You should add glass packs and a 4-barrel carb. Nothing better when trying not to get buried you'd be surprised how high you can throw mud!!!
I think the reason why it couldn't pull itself out of the mud initially is because it had too much balast on-board :P

Yeah, those wheels are Western Wheels Bullets. I just restored a set of 15x8's for my 83 Capri RS. They polish up nice with some wet sanding and some Mothers. I was able to find perfect fitting repop centers on ebay for cheap.
