The auction house takes transfers the funds from the bidders banking information that they then divide amongst the various charities who have people working for them who do the legwork like farmers, doctors, drivers, and other suppliers of services that people in need then receive. The ruby, like almost all natural gemstones, have natural inclusions and scratches. While it is not easy to tell unless the ruby is examined up close, the scratches may just be a reflection but or superficial scratches. I have a 15 carat sapphire and when I look at it, there appears scratches but when you look at it with a lens, the scratches are light and superficial. Finally, scratched or not, a pigeon blood colored ruby from Burma with a size of 30 carats is very, very, very rare so its price is just right for it. Just so you all know.

Because corundum tends to have fine surface scratches after a lifetime of wear, and especially if they were ever kept in pouches with say other jewelry most likely diamonds where they jostled against each other causing micro abrasions. It's a pain. But I do believe they should have polished them prior to the sale. Because I mean....... that step cut diamond ring from the Golconda Mines is EVERYTHING!
