    Royal antiques should never be sold off they should be held in a museum for ALL to enjoy!!!

    It’s sad that they’re going to be separated and sent around the globe. They should stay together as a collection, as per her wishes.

      franz grabe No. They should stay together, as a collection, instead of being separated and sent around the globe. We may never see some of them again. It’s always so sad when priceless collections like this are auctioned off and broken up.

      in her day untill the 1920s pearls were THE jewel and worth far more than diamonds

    It's strange that the jeweler is touching them without gloves, that's usually a no-no, as sweat can transfer which is salty and can damage the jewels in the long run.

    I can’t believe they were handling those items with no gloves on, exposing them so close to average public as if they were cheap pieces of jewelry and on top of all that auctioning them...sad, sad, sad....

      It's actually good to touch pearls with bare hands but they should have wore gloves to touch the diamonds and gold/silver.

    Its a shame that they will auctioning them to the public, I assume? Should be donated to a museum or kept by her family. Not some private collectors with money to waste. Good piece VOA news

      Sun King im agree with you but this jewels are in a private hands ( in this case in a family ) but the family i think needed some money either to keep up apperances or to pay taxes for this items and this is not the first time they did auction some of there jewels before this auction they auctioned already a few pieces from this collection and every generation is very different in believes and ofcourse FINANCIALLY in this kind of family their wealth will not be past down equality generation and generation .

      These objects were made to enjoy and flamboyantly used as status and beauty with glamour occasions and events.
      They are dead and boring in a museum!

    Can’t believe they put their fingerprints all over the piece when they pick it up!!! Anybody in the jewelry industry knows not to put your fingers on the stones. With items like these, gloves should be worn.

    Why they didn't put it in france museum as their treasure like duh... It was own by a famous and historical queen! And besides marie was once a queen a leader of france if they can take the presidents (former) items in museum why dont they just put it there its a thousand year items and it was a piece and an item that france queen wears! If they can keep the royals painting why dont they keep that precious items!!!! Ppl! Is so insane that they didnt even care of what theyre doing bcos theyre influence by money!!!! 😠😠😠

      Toxic Flour they pieces from her family’s estate and they’ve stayed in her family until now. The French government is welcome to purchase them from whomever is selling them, but they been in her family since before she was put to death.

    These are part of the heritage of France. They should stay in the country in Versailles. Maria Antoinette does not have direct descendants as her eldest daughter Marie-Therese was the only member of the family to survive did not have children .

      The stoners and pearls were all purchased from international suppliers.
      They have ALWAYS belonged to individuals.......and should be worn by whoever can live up to their glory!!

      I would prefer these beautiful jewels, no, works of art, to not be in the hands of the country that murdered its owner. French people don’t respect their royal history-they’ll gawk at its splendor and glory, but are overall flippant to anything pre 1789. If these precious stones should go to any museum I’d prefer they go to a museum in Vienna, as one possibility, or Stockholm.

      Louise Merriman .. By the time Louis and Marie-Antoinette took to the throne the damage of "excessive spending was already done" from Louis father and grandfather.. Louis was 15 and MA was 14 when they both married and both didn't have the maturity, skills or knowledge to handle the wealth that was bestowed to them as King and Queen
