Yes… The bottom face unfortunately goes overlooked in favor of the suitjacket design most of the time. Which is a shame - imagine the suitjacket collar exploding into a twisted thatcher-effected smile and eyes growing in the palms… To make both Mystery Man faces, I photoshopped my own face… It gives a very surreal aura.
I still believe the bottom face is a product of our pattern seeking minds trying to find faces. I mean, sprite 1 barely resembles a face, and sprite 2 does make a face looking thing, but at the same time the top face gains pupils.

*You found a black void and walk in, you dont fall, but you feel uneasy. *You travel deeper in the void and see a strange broken face emerge from the shadows. *it speaks a strange language, you back up as it reaches towards you, grabbing your shouder tightly as the void consumes you.
I feel like this is the most plausible look for gaster. He definitely gives off the vibe that he’s not a normal character in undertale (atleast not anymore). If the theory that gaster was the egg man or made the secret bosses go insane in deltarune, it adds even more scariness
At the very least Gaster is intrinsically linked to whatever link between the darkness and reality is making people go insane. The sound effect in chapter 2 when you enter a dark world is an excerpt from “Another Him”, a rework of Gaster’s Theme from chapter 1 (which even uses the same Chrono Trigger soundfont as the original gaster theme)
Come on... Undertale is about an innocent child getting a head concussion and seeing terrifying abominations, undead skeletons, furries, and monstrosities that bend time and space itself. It's already a horror game why would you do this

The more I stare at the image of Gaster, it terrifies me that this is what Gaster is in some cases. A lost being that only a select few remembers, and even some of those people don't particularly like him in some cases. He's this enigmatic being, and it's horrifying.

Been a long while since I got into Undertale, and I've not seen Deltarune yet- but Gaster's story always really rattled me. He was doing some kind of experiment, and he wound up... disappearing, in a sense. People say he was scattered across spacetime, or broken into so many pieces- but not truly dead, only present as some kind of "ghost". For a game with many heartwarming scenes and themes of hope and friendship, it can be very dark when it wants...
You wouldn't be disappointed if you expect more Gaster in Deltarune. There actually seems to be a lot more of him in Deltarune so far, so much so a lot of fans are convinced that Gaster is actually a Deltarune character who somehow got lost in Undertale lmao

Oh absolutely, Deltarune has a lot of references to Gaster in very interesting places. Songs and sound bites in particular are a verifiable source of connection, along with references to specific phrases and other such things...
I find that I quite like the work that you have done here. It is atmospheric and textured, and makes an excellent companion to both artwork and writing. The extended, distended soundscape easily evokes the strange, warped concept of unknown spaces.... While the song's fragments slowly coalesce into Gaster's theme. I enjoy this choice of stylistic touch. Thank you for your creation!

I saw a comment that mentioned the "upside down face", at first I didn't realize what they meant but then turned my phone upside down and got straight up jumpscared.

Initially I was going to just do a straight recreation using the original instrument (a compressed version of the Chrono Trigger piano) but I decided to really lean into it and improvise on piano until I came up with something sufficiently disturbing. I'm glad I chose to do that, because a digital sound wouldn't reach this same level!

After several minutes, days, or perhaps centuries, all becomes far darker than dark. You can finally see it. Everything all at once. It is quickly overwhelming. You want to close your eyes but you have nothing to close. You want to look away but it is everywhere. You want to scream but you have no mouth. You can feel nothing but the pain itself. When will it end you wonder... Never...
