As an industrialist I fly the orca nearly every day. With a MWD I can warp in 10 seconds and with the effective hit points I can tank it out to have more than a bulkhead fit frieghter. And of course when im not carrying precious cargo I am mining in it. I
The shield and ehp is nice against the new pain in the backside Damaviks, 5 of them brought my shield down to 48% on the orca, and i loose drones like mad now :(
@@BerraLJ my boss flew one of these when we had our little Highsec region invaded. And it was my combat drones+procurer, plus her combat drones, and she was sitting there boosting my shield remotely. I hate Triggles.
When I was working at home I would semi-afk orca mine on a second monitor. I don't remember much other than I put 5x meta small shield transporters in the highs, bulkhead and DC in the lows, and a bunch of cap stuff in the mids. Target each mining drone with a shield transporter. I can't remember if I could fit a small shield booster on my orca or not, but I only had to check in on it when I heard that the asteroid had been depleted.
Nice fit, however if you're only mining in high sec I'd use shield extenders rather then booster. If someone's going to try and gank you they rely on alpha damage so you wouldn't get many reps off.
The Orca is a great ship, we even got some PvP bait kills with it. Hi-sec Ice mining is the only time I would ever think about using it solo though. Even with drone skills it takes forever to fill all its holds not just the ore hold. The ship shines when boosting other miners. I dual account so my FC toon does max boost in Orca and runs miner2s with my hulk doing strip 2s and med combat drones. The Orca can hold 2 exhumers in the ship bay or a few mining frigs or a defense cruiser and Hulk (nice small ship carrier). I meet it with my scout frigate and switch to hulk in the field. My Orca holds about 282k m3 and I can completely fill it in less than an hour with my Hulk and the Orcas drones. I just set my Orca pilot to keep 2K distance from my Hulk so I dump directly to it but I rarely have to move with max boosts. For the tank you can get around 323K EHP and faster warp align times if you ditch the reinforced bulkhead which slows you down. I use an Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane and Damage control for the lows. Use EM/Therm/Invuln/Invuln and large shield extender for mids. You will have a very strong omni buffer tank with well rounded out resistances across the board on all levels. I use large cargo expansion rigs to extend the cargo instead of the drone rigs in mine. If you swap the cargo rigs for structure HP rigs with my setup the tank is insane and requires a suicide gank fleet that is worth more than the Orca to kill it before concord kills them. Pack a couple inertial stabilizers to fit when you are moving long distances to align faster or have a fleet-mate web you as you pass ~55% speed when aligning and you slingshot into warp faster.
Hi Voxxel, Pretty sure this was moon ore so you will need to find a refinery drilling a moon and figure out when the asteroids will be produced. That's high sec they can be found in null and low aswell in some normal belts. There are more valuable ores it just depends on whats selling high at the time tbh but most super expensive ores are in null and WH space. Hope that helps :)
It used to. I'm not sure what's going on with the market prices for these at the moment but I think they are now around 500 mil so if you want one get one now lol
I just got one of these for my alt last night(who now has far more experience and money the my 'main' go figure). With drone skills, this thing does mine respectably fast. And even though it's not as fast at mining as a boosted Covetor or even my Procurer, it's Plenty fast enough. If you're in an area where the Belts/Ice fields are far away from base, there's quite a bit of time when you're just in warp. This doesn't even account for Multiboxing (I don't do it, but my corp boss does) which this thing makes pretty easy to do.
Retriever has good staying power with biggest hold but low tank and kinda low mining yield.
