No Wi-Fi on the iPhone 4s is a common issue because of the Wi-Fi chip. Heating the top of the iPhone with a hairdryer until it gets the temperature warning will sometimes fix this
I have an iPad Mini Gen 1, which has the same hardware as an iPhone 4s... As expected, the mini 1 is as slow as an iPhone 4s when running iOS 9... I installed coolbooter and downgraded it to iOS 6 (the first version for it... ) And man, the performance boosted up a lot... Like a lot!
its even worse that the ipad mini has a 1Ghz A5 instead of the 800MHz A5 meaning it should have at least have a tiny bit more performance over the 4S but it performed the same TL;DR: the mini got hit hard with iOS 9
I used an iPhone 4s for about 2 years on iOS 9 in middle school. It was fine. It wasn't the fastest but it was all we could afford. I was able to facetime make calls watch videos play minecraft. It wasn't that bad. The apps were pretty optimized at the time, I even used snapchat.
I used it on iOS 9 when it was my only device in 2016-2017 and it honestly wasn’t too bad. It did almost anything I threw at it, as long as you were patient. It did not like Clash Royale quite as much, though
iPhones started to really get good around 2017 with the iPhone X, I was an iPhone user since 2010 and was never satisfied with each device update i got, then the X came out and it really changed my view on iPhones completely even typing on it was much better than previous generations and the battery lasted so much longer compared to my iPhone 7. I still use the Xs Max as a secondary phone and i still love using it, it has a new battery and always lasts the entire day not to mention the enhanced speakers for playing music. Back in the early days of iPhones even the new iOS update would make the iPhones much slower even if it was the first year iOS upgrade but tech has come so far that they can get 5 iOS updates and still work great.
What’s ironic is that iOS 8.1.1 was released primarily to optimize the experience on the 4S. (like reducing animations for certain elements, removing non essential components, etc). It was Apple acknowledging that the experience was subpar and they made several tweaks to address that. It did make a difference. I don’t know what happened when they decided to release iOS 9 for the 4S. Did they forget this thing only had a half gig of RAM? iOS 8 was already pushing it.
Good thing about technology improving overtime is that we get devices with longer software and security support without putting a huge hit on reduced performance.
I actually bought an iPhone 4S in August because I've always wanted one, even though I have been an Android user all my life. Even though it ran ios 9.3.6, it was actually smooth compared to my midrange android which would lag even on the home screen sometimes. The build quality and the overall experience with the software made me switch to iPhone 2 months later.
So glad that Apple doesn’t update their devices to the point where they can’t run the software anymore, except the iPad seventh generation which is pretty terrible on iPadOS 18.
i actually loved that case idea so much and was literally going to order one when I realized they have it for literally all the iPhone 15 Units EXCEPT for the iPhone 15 plus which is what I have 😭
I remember when I upgraded my good old iPhone 4 (not S) to ios 7 over 10 years ago.. it got basically bricked, barely usable! still things slightly improved with further updates and I managed to use it until late 2015
it wouldn't be so bad if they gave it more RAM (at least 768mb or more) and bumped up the clock speed to 1ghz the speed isn't too big of an issue, it's mostly just background apps closing when multi tasking and RAM related crashes
I had iphone 4s and after first software update WIFI was unusable. Many people had this problem and Apple just did nothing about that and stayed silent and ignored the problem like it does mot exist. And even future software upgrades didn't solved the problem. So you didn't delete anything, it was a software bag that they never repaired
I have an iPad 3 that is also on iOS 9. It actually runs alright, but performance in apps and games isn't that great due to the A5X not being that much better over the A5.
I don’t think what you mentioned is the reason why the Wi-Fi isn’t working anymore. Friends of mine who own a phone repair shop once told me that later versions of the iPhone 4S had issues with the Wi-Fi chip, which would need to be replaced. (The strange thing is that if you heat up the top part with a hairdryer, it works briefly again.)
I remember downloading iOS 9 beta on my mom's iphone 4s and it was literally unusable as in how slow it was but other than that, the beta made some apps straight up not work at all. It was the worst.
Same case with my old redmi 7a! Miui 11 is REALLY fast while the next update (and the last update) which is MIUI 12.5 made it MUCH SLOWER though it was mentioned "enhanced performance". You have IOS 9 on this iPhone here but what about ios 6 7 or 8. How do they perform? Do the updates slowly make this iPhone 4s get slower when installing a newer IOS or is IOS 9 a much bigger downgrade in performance compared to IOS 8 or older updates?
