I used my full spec KEY2 until the end of 2021. I bought a Pixel 6 to hold me over until the new BlackBerry was to be released in early 2022, which never happened. It was the best keyboard ever.
I think treating the Key2 like it's supposed to be this massive media consumption device is wrong. People who buy Blackberries aren't really looking for a flagship like device with an amazing screen, an amazing camera, processor etc. They just want a reliable phone, well built with a great physical keyboard, which is what the Key2 is. Sure, it may have been a bit overpriced at the time though. In my opinion, there is a huge gap in the market for a "dumb" like phone with a good physical keyboard. If you want to be a digital minimalist, it is quite hard these days since you might still want certain features (like maps, search engine, WhatsApp) etc but don't want your device to consume your life. I had the keyone! It was neat and everyone was always very curious about my phone. Durability was an issue. I had the same issue about the sealed back coming off. My favorite thing was easily mappable key functions (press y to open RUclips) and of course just being fond of physical keyboards. I moved on to the Uniherz Titan Pocket, a newer phone that also has a physical keyboard, much larger battery, and a form that is very much inspired by the original Blackberry phones from the early 2000's. I highly recommend it if you are interested in physical keyboard phones or blackberry-like products.
Used my BlackBerry KeyOne as my second phone up until a few months ago. Replaced it with a Razr 40+. Smartphones like BB and Razr+ actually solve problems, the popular ones create more problems than solve. And the keyboard is much more fun to type on, it would take some getting used to if you're coming from an all-touch device.
Anything Blackberry related has me watching. I had the original Blackberry Keyone and i loved it. Gave it to my daughter and she used it to the point where the back was falling off and battery was awful. That keyboard was awesome.
Everyone has their preferences, but as a former Blackberry user: physical keyboards have become completely irrelevant with modern haptics. Once smartphones got really good feedback on touchscreen keyboards, Blackberry's core concept became outdated overnight.
And dictation. It’s very rare for me to type an email on my iPhone, let alone having to edit the message after dictating. Hard to spell or pronounce names of people and companies that are in my contacts or other messages get spelled precisely. I also think modern iOS is the spiritual successor to the final Blackberry OS that came out.
I love phones with physical keyboard so much, I bought a 16 Pro just because Clicks had already made an improved keyboard case for it with magsafe. I still wish another phone company could make an updated version of the Key2. 🙏
I am using a key 2, about three months now, and its a beautifull device to someone who wants to do fewer things in his phone. Its not a phone to compare to others, because it became a different thing, its not simply a smatphone. I bought it to use less my phone, but still can use some apps that are trully necesary today. And it helps a lot.
Ugh I miss my blackberry. Never had this model but I had the OG, the passport and the curve. Not sure though if the top the sidekick. Something about the way that screen flipped out was just unrivaled
I knew ONE single human who owned a BB smartphone.. and even then, that was the Z30, not even the Android models that were around at the end of their run. As for BB models prior to their smartphones, i knew dozens of folks who used one.
I had a blackberry key2 right up till a few months ago. Loved it so much. Miss physical keyboards. The unfortunate pin for me was when they removed pay services from the phone. So I couldn't use it for payments anymore. Was so annoyed
When I used to work for Verizon a few years ago, I had a customer who STILL used the Blackberry 9930 in 2021! I believe at some point he HAD to upgrade because his email servers were no longer working, so I told him about this phone. Alas, he hated it at first but then grew to love Android and even tho I'm not in the phone business anymore, I'm pretty sure he's still using it
I'm not completely sure about the Key2 LE but if it's like the KeyOne the reason the back door is falling off is possible due to the plastic teeth that hold it in place getting worn and broken and the adhesive glue losing it's tackiness after 8 years, that happened to my KeyOne and i just used some extra strong superglue to glue the back door on. I would love to get a Key2 especially the red edition but they are still extremely expensive for 8 year old tech. I think the biggest reason they have retained their value is because they are the last keyboard BlackBerry devices and people still want them even in their half worn state and the recent BlackBerry movie has probably created a bit of nostalgia in people so they seek out BlackBerry's and when they realise they could still use them as a functioning smart phone they might want to buy them.
I bought a blackberry key1 from eBay a few years ago and it was stupid how slow it was. I ended up just using it as a trade in on the Samsung S10 at the time. It was sad that blackberry wasn't able to take off they were great designs not the best function
I had a Key2. It was my refuge after Windows Phone went defunct. I never knew they made an LE. I really miss the physical keys. I have never been able to learn to be accurate with touch screen keyboards. Unfortunately, like most of my phones, it got dropped off a tower and broke into a dozen pieces.
I always wanted one of those Planet Computers phones with a landscape physical keyboard. I always thought BlackBerries looked hard to type on because the keys spanned the short axis.
This is my secondary phone.. got it from work. Charging is still fine and the back panel is still good. It's really slim. The space bar/finger print sensor is great. I play coc on it
I also have BlackBerry but the Key2. I been using it till July of this year when outlook decided to not to support android 8.1. The reason this renained working is mainly because of its quality. It doesn't break. In fact mine looks like new one. But performance wise it isn't that good. It struggles sometimes with multitasking which was the whole point why it existed. Individual apps work fine if multitasking isn't used. Processor is really weak. Screen is good. Aspect ratio is good for reading. Camera is OK like you said. Form factor is also good. It has fallen more than 10 times without cover but the phone stood strong.
I was genuinely wondering why these were so expensive. I recently replaced my friend's screen on her Key 2 LE. The replacement lcd with the digitizer. I just thought that was odd for an android from 2018. Before I had an SE I had a OnePlus One & Two; I never remember the replacement screens being that expensive.
I used to have one because I love how it looked! But it functioned poorly: slow, slow to type on.. though the keyboard also worked as a touch/swipe-typing which wasn't bad at all. But quite soon the screen just detached itself from the body on one side. I really wanted to like it and keep using it, but had to get rid of it after 6 months of use. Always wished they made a better version down the road.
I would say the reason why it doesn't is because of profit reasons: the only way they could make blackberries profitable is to have a modern flagship alongside their keyboard variants and I just don't think this company could support both.
this is still my main business phone. I'll be replacing the battery soon. the keyboard is probably the best ever on any Blackberry. An amazing experience and hope to keep it for a few more years. I also carry a S23 Ultra for multimedia, photos and videos
I had a key one back in the day. I really loved typing on its keyboard once you get used to it. Pretty decent phone imo. Just don’t try to play any games while chrome and/or youtube is still running in the background 😅
Did you say this was the first BB you've ever held but you had a couple BB's back in the day? Can you clarify? You should look at the BB10 camera from a software perspective. The TimeShift camera was neat.
My husband was insisting on using this phone when we where start dating and it almost ruined our relationship because it was never working and had a lot of glitches that lead to a lot of miscommunication and heated discussions (arguments). Eventually he got rid of it and we got married.
If the software is up to date? Maybe increase the battery life a bit? I'll probably get Blackberry over the others. I use my phone primarily for messaging or to Google something. RUclips on occasions. No gamings. I like it's form factor. I think my favorite all time phone being Nokia E63 is a big factor.
I had a bb classic and Key One after it. It fell apart 3 years ago and i still miss it, the capacitive buttons were dead but i still used it however at some point it just started disentigrating itself (screen/backplate falling apart) so i had to let it go. They keyboard on the Key Two has shorter stroke than the one on the keyone however even with that in mind, you cant say its bad. It takes a time to get used to using a keyboard but after that you can get up to the same (or nearly) speed as a touchscreen. However what the keyboard provides is not only a way to type (very accurately without autocorrect nonsense) it also served as a way to scroll the screen since it was also capacitive and most imporantly and the feature I miss dearly - SHORTCUTS. You can bind a short keypress to open a certain app and long keypress to open another one. This made the phone so nice to use just unlock with thumb on space than click say M for messenger Y for youtube T for telegram etc etc. You could also bind it to call a certain contact and much more. The locked bootloader which was a feature since blackberry has always been about security is also its weakeast point now because there is a community cult for theese phones that could update them and keep them snappy if it was possible. The camera atleast one the keyone had the same sensor as the google pixel (which was out at the same time) however it didnt perform as well since it wasn't much stock android camera app. Damn i miss blackberry, too bad RIM sold the phone brand and the last company to hold it was scamming its investors when they were doing the key3 and went under (thats what i remember dont quote me on it)
Your videos have been making me want to purchase my old childhood dream phones lately 😂 if there's one I'd love to have now (As a novelty and just to play around with of course) it's one of these, a HTC one M7 (Maybe an M8 too) the LG V20 (removable back and potentially use as a DAP) and maybe a Razer Phone 2 as I had the first one, I loved it except for the mediocre cameras and bad screen brightness.
The Razer Phone 2 has the exact same issues as the 1, the screen is dim, the cameras suck even with GCam, and it's inordinately difficult to repair, almost as bad as the Essential Phone.
You asked for Blackberry Key 2 users to tell their story in the comment so I'll make it quick! I have a "Not For Sale" Key 2 (6gb Ram, 128gb internal memory) which is in short, an internal use only model. They were made for devs to debug, make apps on, cases etc. They were meant to be destroyed or sent back to Blackberry. These "Key" devices were made by TCL which is a Chinese company that had a license to make phones under the Blackberry name. Hardcore fans will tell you that almost instantly. Fun fact, the box mine came in doesn't have any design on it, just a white box with some Blackberry specs on the side of the lid. Mine also is a prototype model back when they hadn't even confirmed the name to the public so it says "Athena" on it. If you try searching that up, you'll see a few articles about them when they were just leaks. It's also literally 10/10 brand new condition. I think I have easily 1 of the rarest BB's left in the world, (NFS Key2) not bragging lol it took luck and patience to get it. I also have a Porsche P993 but since I live in the US, I'm on borrowed time because phone calls are made on 2G and T-Mobile was the last carrier to continue 2G connectivity,. So I've retired the P9983. I also have a "Classic" which I use when I'm in Asia. The community has always been small but it's microscopic now, at least in the US. Most users are in India or some parts of the EU that I've noticed. Random, stuff worth reading Eminem still uses his Blackberry (in 2024), not sure which model) along with Jamal Crawford (2021, former NBA player, Key1/Key2) Blackberry still exists as a cyber security company that runs in lots of car infotainment systems (QNX, which is I believe loosely based on BBOS10), they sold all their patents and are absolutely never making phones again, Crackberry.com is a great place for old esoteric information, I wouldn;t recommend using these phones with any sensitive apps because there hasn't been a security patch in so many years, they're expensive also since the "Blackberry" movie came out, they shot up in price. Like you also said, there's not many around. OEM Blackberry accessories are also miserably hard to come across either used of NOS condition. I have a privacy screen protecter and and an OEM "soft case" on mine that I bought over a year ago, there's none online now. The "LAST" Blackberry made in Waterloo, Ontario was the Priv. But the last Blackberry to come to market was definitely the "Evolve X" which I believe was exclusive to India? Last but not least, there's a guy named "balika011" on the "Blackberry" subreddit who unlocked the bootloader and is running Android 11 I believe. I use both my iPhone 16 Pro Max and Key 2. I miss Blackberry's for sure!
I had the Key one for some years, it was heavy and a bit bulky compared to my other phones at the time. Great keyboard, bad camera and good battery life. I bought one from UK since they were not sold in Norway. Ended up as my work phone because of the call quality, and fingerprint reader. But still prefer the Q10 over it any day, that was something, smart enough for my need at the time, fine enough camera, good call quality, great keyboard for sms and sync with google calendar. TLDR > give me a modern Q10 or a light enough Key One with 2024 updates. Q10 style with Google Pixel 8 specs would be perfect
The locked bootloader really decreases it's software compatibility.
Do you think that one day someone will figure out how to unlock any bootloader of any phone and there will be a boom of people buying older phones to use custom roms to keep them alive?

I moved on to the Uniherz Titan Pocket, a newer phone that also has a physical keyboard, much larger battery, and a form that is very much inspired by the original Blackberry phones from the early 2000's.
I highly recommend it if you are interested in physical keyboard phones or blackberry-like products.
I still think that my blackberry priv was the best phone ever. I wish I could just put modern hardware into the chassis.
Not sure I'd call that a "short" display. It's still 9-to-16 widescreen.
Love mine.
I had the full fat Key2. Great phone. I miss it.
Maybe I missed it but did you ever really answer why this phone is still so expensive?
@7:35 No one bought them so there aren't many in circulation
I just subscribed you yesterday, i didn't regret it.
I always talk to text
The biggest loss of blackberry was the Blackberry Internet Service. Super cheap unlimited mobile internet.
Love these videos
I used my key2 till 2023 and love my blackberrys since 2008
I bought a blackberry key1 from eBay a few years ago and it was stupid how slow it was. I ended up just using it as a trade in on the Samsung S10 at the time. It was sad that blackberry wasn't able to take off they were great designs not the best function
Gosh, I love this video series, even if it makes me feel old. 😄
I saw one of these in Hungary, used by a taxi driver. It’s pretty unique stuff
If you want a "Blackberry" or keyboard phone nowadays, something like the Unihertz Titan Pocket is a way better option.
Liked, subscribed. Great content dude. Loving these
Thank you!!!
I have used it quite happily the last 5-6 years, but the old android OS is starting to be a problem
Idk about being faster at typing. I could write messages in my pocket with a black berry back in day
I had a Key2.
I subscribed as I liked the way you asked to sub compared to others sounding pesty. Your voice calms me good stuff man 👍
Plus blackberry's always been shite
I was genuinely wondering why these were so expensive. I recently replaced my friend's screen on her Key 2 LE. The replacement lcd with the digitizer. I just thought that was odd for an android from 2018. Before I had an SE I had a OnePlus One & Two; I never remember the replacement screens being that expensive.
The LE has a different keyboard. It’s little bit more difficult to type on that my regular one was amazing.
Watching on my key2 LE
1:19 what's the name of that game? Anyone?
Geometry dash
I'm not sure which one you are referring to, but the one with the jumping cube is "geometry dash", the one with the stacking tower is called "Stack"
Stack and Geometry Dash were both shown here!
I really liked that phone, i wished they made an updated version of it
I remember wanting this phone so bad but Blackberry withdrew from selling phones in my home country.
The last Blackberry I had was the Z10 and I loved that thing! Switched to the HTC One after that
I would say the reason why it doesn't is because of profit reasons: the only way they could make blackberries profitable is to have a modern flagship alongside their keyboard variants and I just don't think this company could support both.
You convinced me I still want it. Just wish my carrier would let me use it. It would be on wi fi.
Subscribed. Hope you get to 100k
I have this phone love it still never had any issues love blackberry !
Unihertz's phone cannot compete with this. And they're gonna get sued if they copy the physical Qwerty kboard.
I had this one and and it got crushed when someone dropped a weight on it at the gym 😭. Still miss the keyboard
Oooooooof. That doesn't surprise me
There hasn’t been a portable productivity device as powerful as the KEY2 since it came out.
Beautiful, I i used both verisons and would die to get a nice condition one
this is still my main business phone.
TCL was never the "owner" of BlackBerry. They licensed the brand from BlackBerry to make android phones.
I thought BB Key2 was well loved? Or was it the non-LE variant?
Did you say this was the first BB you've ever held but you had a couple BB's back in the day? Can you clarify?
You should look at the BB10 camera from a software perspective. The TimeShift camera was neat.
This guys video sucks. "This 6yr old doesnt hold up to todays standard" well duh
Typing from a Key2, best pkb phone
Nine years later, I still think about the BlackBerry Priv
Imagine a 2024 Blackberry with optical mechanical switches 👀
My husband was insisting on using this phone when we where start dating and it almost ruined our relationship because it was never working and had a lot of glitches that lead to a lot of miscommunication and heated discussions (arguments). Eventually he got rid of it and we got married.
man i wanted this phone for the last 6 years and gave up
Well, declaring this as the worst typing experience ever is very strange.
you are doing a great job < keep brilliant
Weird. I was literally thinking about booting up my old priv with some custom software only yesterday
I still have a keyone in the box in storage will it still work ?
Can you use the keyboard as a mouse on this one? I forgot which model had that feature
Big BlackBerry fan here and owner of a KeyOne. I would have a Key2 right now just to have one if, like the LE, they weren't still so darn expensive...
Unihertz my be the brand for you
@mikedasneves God no. They're nothing more than a poorly executed knock off brand.
Random, stuff worth reading
Eminem still uses his Blackberry (in 2024), not sure which model) along with Jamal Crawford (2021, former NBA player, Key1/Key2) Blackberry still exists as a cyber security company that runs in lots of car infotainment systems (QNX, which is I believe loosely based on BBOS10), they sold all their patents and are absolutely never making phones again, Crackberry.com is a great place for old esoteric information, I wouldn;t recommend using these phones with any sensitive apps because there hasn't been a security patch in so many years, they're expensive also since the "Blackberry" movie came out, they shot up in price.
