      I just commented exactly that on another one of his videos. I have a 9 year old kid who comes over for guitar classes and we started literally from scratch (why is the guitar made of wood, how many strings it has, etc) and now that we are moving on I am stuck in a gordian knot, not being able to present my knowledge as colorful and straightforward as Steve is doing it. But watching him teach, I got new, easy to understand ideas, how to present some theoretical stuff combined with visual show.

      @@Staminist-MMF-80 I just started watching Steve's videos recently. and bought some of his course material. I have made real improvement on my knowledge and playing.

    I can't even begin to tell you how much joy came from understanding this. There were two lightbulb/ mind blown moments for me when I was learning this. I struggled with it for about 24 hours after my father showed me how he understands it which is a little more nebulous than its taught in videos like this. I worked out for myself that all the chord shapes follow the same sequential logic of whole and half steps as the notes on each of the strings. But when I worked out ho CAGED works, it took me about two more days, I was even trying to knit it out in a small notebook, sounding off with my friend who couldn't be less interested in this while we're both drying out sheets at the laundrette and four days later, it keeps getting clearer and clearer. This must be how physicists feel when they demonstrate physics principals in everyday life. (spoiler alert I get the jollies from seeing that as well) or how doctors feel when they make a perfect diagnosis, Its joy at its purest. I have fallen tits up for this beautiful instrument and it will stay with me as part of my life ad-eternem.

    Hi Steve . I maybe wrong. But it seamed to me the root note of the bar. Where the note related to the open string note. Is the chord you are playing. I.e E shape bar chord. The bar (index finger) is over the low G gives a Equivalent G chord. Using an A shape bar chord. The note you want to play is on the 5th open string A note. So on the 3rd fret it’s a C chord. 3rd fret D shape bar chord is an F chord. Maybe I’m wrong? Cheers Brent

    I have been seeing Bullet For My Valentine guitarist Paige playing guitar and wondering what the hell is he playing because his fingers where not forming familiar shapes on the guitar. Its now just downed on me that he was playing the very chords I know but using the CAGED system. Thanks so much Mr Steve Steine!!

    Question no one answers: I have always understood connecting and moving shapes BUT there are multiple Cs using multiple shapes..how do I know which C to use? There is a bunch of them...please help

    • @TheTundraTerror
      @TheTundraTerror 4 года назад

      The idea of the CAGED system is to help you better understand where your notes lie on the fretboard. Don't worry about "which C you should be using". What you should keep in mind is that "the notes of a C chord can be found here... here... and here." Realizing that will help you become a better guitarist.

    Why is there a gap between the g chord and the d chord but not the e?

    • @Guitarzoom
      @Guitarzoom  Год назад

      Hi. CAGED system works just like scale positions. If you skip one of the positions you always will have a gap because there is no direct connection between the shapes. The order is always C - A - G - E - D. If you go from G to E since they are "neighbors" right next to each other you will find a connecting note (or groups of notes), however if you jump from G to D you are missing the position that the open E chord makes (G - E - D) and there are no connecting notes directly. Hope this answers your question and thanks for your comment.

    Is there a way of playing the C G D shapes in another way? As said in the video they are uncomfortable to play.

      Benjamin Daniel Morgan there are other ways to play those chords, he’s just explaining how to play these chords using the open shapes.

      Have you heard of Steve's chord bouncing technique? Go here to check it out:
      ruclips.net/video/dqFSWH9ldJA/видео.html
      This bouncing technique helps you build muscle memory in your hands and fingers. Which means, you'll be able to make chords easier, with no hesitation. And it works with any chord shape.
      Hope this helps! :-)

    Why? What do I need several c chords for?

    • @gooscooby5988
      @gooscooby5988 3 года назад +1

      I’m still learning guitar to be honest, but it seems knowing alternate chord positions is useful for both playing with another guitarist where the different c chord position provides an in tune alternative to enhance the song. Also knowing the alternative chord positions is helpful for when you start lead guitar playing. Knowing the various different root note positions on your fretboard in this case c, is helpful for starting to your lead scales from.....I think !

    • @Guitarzoom
      @Guitarzoom  3 года назад

      Good answer, gooscooby! :-)
      Also, even just from a rhythm perspective, it's good to know different chord positions, because different voicings of C (or any chord) sound slightly different.
      So if you wanted to play a C chord that sounded hard and heavy, you could play it as a 6th string barre chord (E shape) on the 8th fret, like Steve does in the video at about 8:12. Playing just the bottom 4 strings of that barre chord gives you a complete C chord with a full, "heavy" sort of sound.
      Or if you wanted to play a C chord that sounded softer, you could play one using a D shape (using the top 3 or 4 strings), like Steve does after that. That C chord is not going to sound as "heavy," and it's going to have a higher pitch as well.
      It all depends on what your goals are as a guitarist. You can play songs just with basic open chords and sound great. But if you want to change things up and add more dynamic elements to your playing, it helps to know how to play the same chord in several places on your fretboard.
      Hope this helps!

      GuitarZoom.com Hi Guitar Zoom Team, Thanks 🙏 for getting back to me. This information is super helpful to me. I am learning but have joined a group with more accomplished musicians, my goal is to move from bass to rhythm guitar as this helps make our band a bit more flexible and interesting as sometimes not every member can make it to every practice or gig. I had sort of got pretty reasonable on acoustic guitar with the open chords as you say, but was really only duplicating what the other guitarist was doing. Your explanation here has given me a fast track, and some confidence to actually start doing some experimentation with chords in a different position. Hopefully, the rest of the band won’t sack me ! And I can master some before our next gig once this horrible Covid 19 pandemic somehow gets under control . Again thanks 🙏 and keep rocking .

    okay so I get it for all the stuff there but then he gets to the D shape at the bottom and instead of using the bottom of the D shape to barre the C shape he uses the two fingers above that last note in the D shape? That has gotten me all confused
