    The original 6D is still the absolute king of the budget cameras. If you want it purely for photography you can not go wrong, from the very first picture you showed I thought the original 6D looked better. It’s only drawback is it’s autofocus system, so as long as it isn’t needed for fast paced photography it’s a fantastic budget option today.

    There will likely be a firmware update coming in September that might improve the performance. After all, Canon did explicitly say that the 6D2 sensor offers better resolution AND better low light performance than the old 6D. The result we see here could be caused by a firmware bug or error. If the firmware update helps noise or DR noticeably, it will be a no brainer for many people. But maybe you should just get the 6D2 and focus on getting better GLASS which will make much more of a difference than the difference in performance between the 6D and 6D2.

      and light on the sensor (t vs f)
      for example: a 85mm prime is about 2/3-1 stop brighter at f2.8 vs a 70-200 at f2..8 (it's transmission of light to the sensor is much better as there are fewer elements and shorter throw)
      comparing a 16-35 @ 35 vs 50mm prime, the difference is even bigger because of vignetting and not sure how bad light transmission is

      Hey Abed, If you are looking for better image quality is doesnt worth to upgrade.
      However, I'm happy with the new 6D. It has Dual Pixel autofocus, Phase detection, more focus points. touch screen is an extra.
      HDR Video sounds great. Interval timelapse is the functions we have been waiting for ages.
      The processor is really good, you dont have to wait a long time to process 30 seconds exposure image.
      Long story short, the new 6d mark is more like 6D image quality with 80D functions.
      Take 60D and 80d as an example. Almost the same with new features.

    OK now people are complaining about the supposedly "bad" DR and high ISO performance, saying that it's even a bit worse than the old 6D. Now first HDR mode eliminates DR issues, and downsampling 26 MP images down to 20 MP (6D resolution) might clean up some noise. Besides that:
    CanonWatch has rumors of a firmware update coming in September for the 6D mark II. And it may or may not improve DR and/or high ISO performance, or may/may not add some other feature(s) like ALL-I recording or even 4K video (but that's unlikely). The reason why I think it might help the 6D2's performance is this:
    Canon did handicap this camera to protect their 5D mark IV. Now, they either did this by using old sensor tech or by handicapping the firmware. I'm inclined to believe they handicapped the firmware; there's no reason to use old sensor tech when you can achieve the same effect with firmware. Plus with firmware, you CAN fix it in case of a huge PR problem (which Canon DOES have right now). Besides, B & H's page on the 6D mark II explicitly says that *the 6D mark II's sensor offers improved low light performance compared to the old 6D*. There's another reason why it might be the firmware's fault and NOT the sensor's. And in that case they could fix the firmware and it would be a great camera, challenging the D750. Or it might even be a slight hardware update like they did to the 5D4 to add C-LOG.
    Plus, if you notice, DXOmark has not released their scores for the 6D2 yet. Hopefully they'll wait until after the firmware update, to see what exactly the firmware update did to help the camera. Perhaps DXO is deliberately waiting for the firmware update, and that's a good thing if you ask me.

      High Ground Productions, you sound knowledgeable, so I would like to share my thoughts. Omar, thanks for the video, by the way.
      I have bought the 6D Mark II mainly because its articulated screen which serves a treat in certain cases. I fell in love with my original 6D, whose image quality is astounding. I had great expectations regarding the 6D Mark II and I have taken hundreds of pictures for pleasure as well as experimentation, following all the hoo-hah on the web before people even touched the camera. I have analysed RAW files in order to derive a conclusion on its so persecuted dynamic range and compared photos taken with both 6D Mark II and 6D original. Both indoors and outdoors, same lens, same settings, tripod, manually focused, no noise rejection at high ISOs or long exposures, both properly exposed and underexposed cases were covered. This is what I have found, so far:
      - If you expose your photos properly (or maybe expose to the right) you will love the images from the 6D Mark II, there is no doubt about that. Highlight recovery is very good, no issues there.
      - There are differences in RAW files between 6D Mark II and original. Is it just me, or do the 6D Mark II photos look a bit less “contrasty” that the 6D original? Not that you can’t adjust it post processing , of course, but just an observation. Call me paranoid if you want. Up to ISOs of 1600, as long as you have reasonably exposed your photos, or underexposed sensibly to pull highlights and then recover shadows, there shouldn’t be an issue. However, if you have either have a high-contrast, harsh scene that really calls for a very high dynamic range, or if you by mistake underexpose your photos quite a lot, the 6D Mark II is less forgiving than the original in pushing details out of shadows. For a boost above 1.5 - 2 stops, if you look carefully at your shadows there are all sorts of colour cast noise that starts detracting from your images. The 6D original does have the same issue but it can withstand much more of exposure push before it exhibits the same level of noise. The 5D Mark III is notorious for its underexposure performance, in fact it is shocking in certain cases and similarly not forgiving at all. But this is what baffles me: DXOMARK released the sensor results for the 6D Mark II, placing it at a very good position in the Canon League table with an overall score of 85 (6D original has scored 82, 5D Mark III 81, etc…). Not bad at all. It scores better at high ISOs and every lab who tested its print capabilities (higher number of megapixels) have granted it the highest of awards for the resolution it achieves, stating that it outperforms the 6D original hands down. Its dynamic range (now, here is the juice of the story) is 0.2 - 0.25 stops lower than that of the 6D original up to ISOs of 2000 or thereabouts, while at higher ISO settings they are on par. That difference should not be discernible at all. In real life though when you really push the 6D Mark II, you have weird magenta casts in the shadowed areas and more noise overall. Of course, these are scenarios that every photographer should be avoiding (using a shutter speed of 1/1000 when you should be using 1/250 is ridiculous), yet it points to the fact that there must be an oversight or something that Canon have done inadvertently. The 6D original on the other hand, seems to yield soft, mushy patterns in the shadowed areas, eliminating detail, still being more pleasing on the eye. Again, in 98% of the cases you have to be a nerd to notice this. Still, why?
      - As you increase the ISO to 3200 onwards, the noise in the RAW files from a slightly underexposed 6D Mark II photo will become more noticeable than those of the original, BUT the 6D Mark II yields much better detail in sensitive textures. It is the colour rendition and detail at high ISOs that make the 6D Mark II a better camera than its predecessor. Noise wise though, the 6D original wins marginally. Again, the DR is pretty much the same and the signal-to-noise ratio better for the 6D Mark II, according to DXOMARK, so why the increased noise? Is it because the increased number of megapixels?
      By the way, there is another thing I noticed during my experimentation, something I keep saying: when you keep increasing the megapixels, quite often you necessitate the use of pro level, expensive lenses to resolve your images, as the budgetary ones become inadequate. When I took photos with my ultra-wide lens, Sigma 12-24mm F/4.5-5.6 (decent lens but not as good as the same lens F/4 of the Canon 16-35mm F/4), the RAWs and JPEGs from the 6D original were much better. It was the lens, I think. After all there is always the “marrying” of a camera and lens and unfortunately the patterns there can often be unpredictable.
      Why did Canon allow the 6D Mark II to have an on-par if not slightly less DR than the predecessor? All they needed to have done is ensure a DR of, say, 12.7 to 13 stops at ISO 100 (5D Mark IV has 13.7) and job done... everyone would be happy and the harbingers of doom would find another camera to talk about. Why this magenta cast at extreme settings? Why releasing a camera with a new, powerful image processor like the DIGIC 6 and not exceeding the DR of the predecessor by, say, half a stop? Surely, surely, there must be a firmware upgrade that improves this. After all, contrary to popular belief, firmware is not software. A lot of the potential of the camera must lie in algorithms that control hardware behaviour, I am sure you know what I mean. Have you heard anything in the gossip corners about a firmware upgrade? I called Canon and I managed to get through to one of their technical people. They are keeping very quiet about all these and they are not allowed to talk, as I gathered, although they listened to everything I had to say. They advised me to use the Canon DPP software and not Lightroom, because of possibly wrong Lightroom software routines and incompatibility with the Canon 6D Mark II codec, but I don’t buy that. The Canon software removes a lot of noise by eliminating detail and that is not good. I think it is in their interest to release a firmware update that will remove any weird colour casts at high ISOs, pump up the DR a bit and hopefully spread the bloody autofocus points a bit further than the middle... The 6D original is now a five-year old camera and they might discontinue it at some point. What better advertising weapon would anyone think that exorcising the dynamic range evil and making the 6D Mark II a worthy comparison to the mighty 5D Mark IV? Just a thought.
      Do any of the above match your observations? I don’t know if I am doing something wrong. Have you heard anything of the firmware front recently?
      Thanks a lot,
      Michael

      Michael Perdikakis There was a dpreview thread talking about the possibility of a firmware update in September, they're talking about that Canonwatch page. But it's November and Canon hasn't delivered. But most cameras do receive at least a couple firmware updates at least in the medium to long term. Also, I would advise you to compare the 6D and 6D2's ISO noise performance and detail retention using Canon DPP just as a comparison tool. It may be a bad editing software but the comparison using DPP might be worth it and I'd like to know the results. Maybe lightroom does handle the 6D2 files worse? Idk.

      Long story short, mark ii has more focus points and still not covering the full frame.
      Touch screen which mark i doesn’t. Honestly it is cool but you can still working without it.
      However if you willing to use the camera for videos get the mark ii for sure.

    Pointless review when you use 2 different lenses (and notice that you also used 2 slightly different focal lengths about 10% apart.)
    This should have been done on a prime such as a 35mm for the best possible comparison.

    I am a big fan of Canon, and I am thinking of buying a new DSLR or Mirrorless, but I am very disappointed with the Canon, as it seems they stopped in time.
    At this time there are several brands that make DSLR's or Mirrorless using a technology much more advanced than Canon.
    I would like briefly that Canon devotes more of its engineering to their DSLRs, especially in the video area.
    For example: I would like the new 90D have stabilization in body and that was not electronic, because even with canon, lenses there are many lenses that do not have IS.
    It's ridiculous to have STM lenses (lenses dedicated to video) and they do not have IS !!!!.
    The 24mm pankake, the 40mm pankake, have no IS.
    3 of their 50mm lenses that Canon has (f1.8, f1.4, f1.2), none have IS !!!
    This is ridiculous.
    The 50mm 1.8 STM lens has no IS ?????
    The body of the DSLR also has no IS, how to make a decent video ???
    Do we have to carry the tripod on our backs?
    Please Canon we are in the century. XXI ...
    The weak performance in high ISO's ....
    The dual pixel video system is good.
    Why not, in the next 90D give another strong attribute to your customers, for example an optical viewfinder for photo and another electronic for video?
    I think it's urgent that Canon devotes more useful technology to their's DSLRs, because the competition is big and it's getting more and more aggressive.
    Be carefull Canon.
    Not everyone is willing to pay for a C100, C300, C500 or a C700 !!!!

      Hi Alberto. Greeting from Lebanon.
      Well Regarding image quality, both cameras are the same. Mark ii has a faster processor and better focusing system.
      You may get the Mark I and save some money. I used it for 4 years.
      However, IF YOU THE MONEY it is better to get the new mark II. It performs better in live events, sports and portrait images because of the faster processor and the new focusing system.
      if you are landscape photographer, it doesn't matter which one you get. in this case get the old 6D mark I and save some money.

    • @OmaGhomrawi
      @OmaGhomrawi  7 лет назад +1

      Image quality wise. 5D mark iii is better than 6D mark I at high ISO.
      Since the 6D Image quality is better than the mark II. Thus 5D mark III and IV quality is BETTER THAN 6D Mark ii.
      However. I'm professional Photographer. Despite of price difference, I prefer 6D over the 5D.
      5D has more functions I do not use, as well as the image quality is almost the same.
      If you are on the budget. Go for 6D Mark II. Perfect autofocus, Dual Pixel Autofocus, and Phase detection. Autofocus on 6D Mark I really sucks.

      6D is a great camera, I made most of my portfolio using the original 6D. However, you don't care much about autofocus points, and speed for the type of your work since you probably do manual focusing.

      Ну и молодец, а я купил м2 и сравнил одну и туже картинку, с одним и тем же стеклом и понял что 6д реально отстаёт по хроматики, резкости, и контрасту.

    • @Pankrat1973
      @Pankrat1973 6 лет назад

      это все на уровне правки RAW , зато вторая шумит больше , хотя это тоже не критично и легко устраняется :) ДД тоже в пользу м1 (12.1 против 11.9) , как по мне то все это фигня , различий по картинке минимум и заметят только дрочеры , лучше бы исправили качество видео , а то как был ужас так и остался .

      Omar Ghomrawi I just find it very hard to believe that a camera with a much newer sensor, much newer processor, and higher native ISO range can have worse noise problems than its predecessor. Could be a bug, or something - the difference is quite small.

    • @OmaGhomrawi
      @OmaGhomrawi  7 лет назад

      Darth Kenobi indeed the difference is little small. But mark is not better. Do you think I would be sad for being better.
      I already preordered the camera as I wished it has better image quality. At least it should has the same as the old 6D.
      However I still prefer the mark ii over the old one. As you mentioned it is 80d functions on 6d quality.
      You may also check other reviews on the web. They have same as my results.

      Omar Ghomrawi I'll buy it but rely heavily on HDR photos and videos. Turns out you're actually getting just a teeny bit less quality than the old 6D. But guess what? HDR mode levels the playing field - It should be great for most things that don't move fast - landscapes, portraits, cityscapes, astro, etc. HDR VIDEO is not present in the 6D at all and I think it helps make the 6D2 a better video camera than the 6D - Dual Pixel AF, 60fps at 1080, a flipscreen, digital video stabilization, 4K time lapse, and that all-important HDR video make this a very practical video camera. I will use it.

    • @OmaGhomrawi
      @OmaGhomrawi  7 лет назад

      Darth Kenobi Sure all these functions make me sacrifice the tiny unnoticeable extra noise over the old model.
      Im not saying it is bad camera! But speaking of less noisy camera is not the true winner.

    • @OmaGhomrawi

      6d m2 has video autofocus 5d m3 doesn't
      5d m3 has better image quality in stills than 6dm3
      6d m2 has flipped screen
      5d m3 has headphone jack

      Hey, thank you for reaching out.
      Lenses would affect Chromatic Aberration, Sharpness, Flare, etc.. Eventually, I'm testing Noise at high ISO. Nothing to do with Lenses.

      Lenses affect sharpness, chromatic aberration, and vignette.

  • @L.Lyubomirov
    @L.Lyubomirov 6 лет назад

    Very unfair comparison !If you want to compare the noise levels, please donwsize the image from 6d mark ii to 20mp...if not,there is absolutly non sense.

    • @OmaGhomrawi
      @OmaGhomrawi  6 лет назад

      Why downsizing to 20mpx since the new camera is technically 26mpx.

    • @L.Lyubomirov
      @L.Lyubomirov 6 лет назад +1

      Cause thats the way you can compare iso...if you compare 50mpx 5DSR to the 20mpx 6D it will be still bad...when you have more mega pixel,you zoom more into the picture and the iso is obvious...for that reason the best Canon 1dx mark ii and (mark i) was made only with 20 mpx,i am not saying that the more mega pixel is bad,but if you print big thats ok,but the oposite not realy.

    • @L.Lyubomirov
      @L.Lyubomirov 6 лет назад +1

      Also...you must use exactly the same lens..cause every lens gives you different amout of color shift and sharpness...i have downloaded the files that you have puted into the desrciption,i have tried to match the exposure and color shift...as far i can see the new 6d mark ii i the same story az the old 6d,the iso is slightly different (the pattern) but the noise levels are the same.

    • @OmaGhomrawi
      @OmaGhomrawi  6 лет назад

      Indeed I tested only ISO not sharpness or chromatic aberration. Lenses never affect ISO or Noise, it is body matter.
      and regarding downsizing, I don't really agree with your point of view since we're gonna use the mark 6 at 26mpx not 20mpx.
      I believe that is why the new mark 2 looked noisier and has more noise pattern. Thus Canon should make new sensor to match higher mega pixels.

    • @OmaGhomrawi
      @OmaGhomrawi  5 лет назад

      Hey Duc, I really doesn’t matter which lens you use when you test Noise and Grain.
      Lenses has nothing to do with Grain at low light conditions. Variety of Lenses could affect, sharpness, vignettes and chromatic aberration, which didn’t even discuss.
      Have a great time :)

      The Panasonic G9 (which is "only" a m43 camera) has better dynamic range, better usability, better af, better video features, and also what? Cost less
      Canon just earn money from the brand, they can sell crap things and still make money
