You've heard him before. The crunchy, metallic voice ported everywhere from the Commodore 64 to the BBC micro:bit, who once even voiced a certain beefy-armed Burninator, the original SAM (and perhaps not the one you first thought of?) is back in Plogue Chipspeech to fit all your retro-vocal needs. Deep, rich, and distorted, he offers more than fuzzed-out vocal lines--all the sounds from 2:00 to 2:24 are based on his voice, to showcase the flexibility of his gritty digital pipes.
(Okay, real talk? I've been wanting this guy in Chipspeech from the beginning, and Plogue did NOT disappoint in the SLIGHTEST.)

@@alexhndr Sorry for the late response. I wouldn't say it's "harder" but it's certainly different. Chipspeech renders in real-time rather than pre-computing vocal lines from piano roll data. On one hand in some ways it makes it more flexible (and MUCH more performable), but on the other hand there's a BIT of a learning curve making the transition if you're used to synths like Vocaloid or UTAU. I tend to play all my chipspeech lines live on a MIDI keyboard so that I can "feel" the voice more naturally. If you don't have a MIDI controller, you're going to want to shift the notes a bit earlier on the grid and add a bit of space between them.
@@imlxh7126 sam is very hard to use on the app and not on the web. you have to enter pitch, speed, and everything else. and if you want sam to say something right, you have to learn phonetics for him. and then, if you want him to sing, its a living hell.
I now see why Airdorf chose this voice for John Ward

Well, chipspeech is one of the few vocal synths that takes live MIDI input, so this is certainly a possibility!

So I just put this into Google Translate, and I don't know whether or not this is the error OF Google Translate, but the first line translates "systems" as "organizations". I mean "system" as in "computer system", referring to how SAM was originally ported to several different 8-bit computers.
Also "hear" is a different word than "here". Very easy mistake to make, honestly. According to Google Translate (for whatever it's worth), "I hear its song" translates to "その歌が聞こえる".
Other than that, this is a very good translation! I'm glad that you did this for everyone in Japan who's curious about what my song means.

This is very interesting use of old voice synthesizers, we need more people playin' around with the outdated tech- spice things up (as if each vocaloid song isn't alright extremely unique, but you get the point)

This sounds exactly like something ripped form Portal 2's soundtrack! I love it!
Actually, the Portal 2 soundtrack made heavy use of Plogue's "chipsounds" VST (the NES triangle is VERY clear in some pieces). I used the SID engine from chipsounds for a few synth parts in this, so that might be it?

Also fair warning in advance: this song has SEVERAL tracks of SAM, not all of which serve a vocal role. I tend to use harmonies in my chipspeech arrangements to thicken up the voice and make it clearer (plus i'm just A Sucker For Vocal Harmonies lmao)

Most are emulations of hardware chips from the 70s and 80s, though some, like SAM, are emulations of software programs. Most were not like Vocaloid at all, as they used synthesizers to create sound instead of recored speech.

Well, yes and no. It works in a completely different way (real-time rendering as opposed to piano roll edit) and the timbres you get from it are far less humanoid, but essentially it does the same thing in terms of converting text and notes to singing.
