    One of the most overlooked clutch shots in NBA history with Vinnie Johnson bringing the title home on a near buzzer beater. That last 3 1/2 minutes epitomized the difference between Detroit and Portland. The Pistons didn't rattle and could execute in the closing moments. Portland had a bad habit of playing scattered and rattled at the end of close games. Cost them in this series, against the Lakers in 91, and against the Bulls in 92. All three series that were winnable for them.

    • @FuShengAlex
      @FuShengAlex Год назад +2

      "Playing scattered" started with Clyde. The problem with him as your #1 offensive anchor is unlike the truly greatest SGs in history I'd rank ahead of him (Jordan, West, Bryant Wade) he had a very unreliable offensive game in the halfcourt. His 3peat shot wasn't reliable until he went to Houston. He relied on getting to the basket, post ups in the half court, crashing the glass for offence. He had trouble with midrange shots, creating his own off the dribble in the halfcourt.
      But if a game was a fast paced track meet....Clyde was arguably the greatest offensive player in NBA history. He had a fantastic series vs Detroit in 1990 though.
      I will say it's a pity a younger pre injury ridden Sabonis was not able to play with the 90-92 Blazers like he should've. They were only missing a reliable halfcourt presence offensively. I think he would've put them over the top and made the champions from one of these 90, 91 and 92 seasons.

      Which makes me wonder how the 90 Suns/92 Jazz couldn’t take advantage against said scattered and rattled team.

      @@chrisuncleahmad Blazers came into the Finals as the best rebounding team in the league, but didn't out rebound the Pistons once in this series. Drexler and Porter did enough to win while Laimbeer and Salley took the bigs to school. Blazers more or less drew even in the back court battle, but they got it handed to them in the front court one.

    Amazing that you rarely ever see this game on highlight films of the great NBA era of Magic, Jordan, Bird, and Isiah. The Pistons of that time were one of the greatest teams to ever play in the NBA but rarely, if ever, get talked about as such.. Now with "The Last Dance" documentary they're even more disrespected. They deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as the Bulls, Lakers and Celtics from that era period. It's also weird that you rarely hear or see highlights of the 2004 5 game "sweep" of the Lakers. THAT was an amazing team as well but they rarely get mentioned. Disrespect to Detroit teams is nothing new to Detroit sports fans.

      Because they were garbage - Pippen migraine and Paxon ankle in game 7 ECF is the only reason the Bulls were not drilling Portland for ring #1 of 7 in 1990 - Piston didn’t have the talent that the BULLS had so they had to play dirty - if they were so good, why only 2 rings ? MJ23 has 6 - just saying

      @Joshua Seeley key words (away from) - when in doubt, just run straight through the defense and score a lay up in 5 seconds, just take the ball away from Carl Malone (give me that, you don’t want it), then just knock down a jumper on Brian Russell sliding ass and walk off the court with 6 🏆 - MJ got to the point where he was not coming up short again

    I LOVED these teams. They were true champions and they beat Bird, Magic, and Jordan. (and Kobe and Shaq if you count Dumars as the GM in 2004).
    That being said, they also had a hand in helping the Bulls dynasty in coming alive; Chicago did take this team to Game 7 of the 1990 ECF that year. The Bulls, as the world knew, would then become an iconic brand world-wide with their 6 championships.
    I may take heat for this, but I loved, and still do, both the Pistons and the Bulls and am happy both franchises have multiple championships. I would love to see one, or both of these franchises return to glory!
