Very cool ! All I know about the 292 is that it was well loved by many and that it was my father's favorite truck engine.

I only 77 3 quarter ton c20 Chevy pickup it has a 292 straight 6 with a granny gear 4-speed transmission I'm 66 years old and I can work on it 👍👏🤣 I owned three trucks a 2007 to 2005 in the 77 and I kept the 77 just because I know how to work it I put some new parts on mine but I've kept everything and NOS I want to keep it as close to original as I can because when it was made out of the factory it was running perfect with what they put on it so I'm preserving that good luck with yours it's a good motor I wouldn't give it up I keep it just bring it up to par with some TLC and it'll last you forever

Do yourself a favour and get a copy of "Chevrolet Inline Six-Cylinder Power Manual" by Leo Santucci. Must be the best book written for any engine, not just for Chevy 6s. Otherwise, do the usual - plugs, leads, points. Give the carb a birthday and it may fix most of your current issues. The Power Manual above will take over after that and get you beyond the basic tuning details if you want to get more out of your engine. Stick with it though. They're a great old slab, and will pull the bend out of a creek.

I have an 82 P30 with the 292 however, the master cylinder is different than yours. Over 409,000 miles with many new parts along the way. I ended up putting a much less complicated 1972 carburetor on mine. I have a manual choke. Game changer for me.

As long as that motor runs leave it alone and done replace it my 1968 C10 292 has as of October of 2018 400'650 original miles and runs great it was my grandfather's truck witch he bought new and garage kept it ever since and it does not even burn oil . The funny thing is down here in the state of Virginia you can get brand new 292 in line with zero miles for $500 dollars fully dressed with a Rodchester 2 bbl carb

I forgot, mine had manual steering, and I couldn't turn the steering wheel with it sitting still so I got all the parts I needed to change everything now it's Power steering, Soooo much better , I have solar panels 4 on the roof, insulated my sleeping quarters with 2 in foam board from Home depot, I also tared the floor, and laid down 5/8" ply wood. And screwed it to the floor, not a cold echo chamber anymore,

William, I'm trying to do the exact same thing you did and replace my manual gearbox for powersteering. I've ordered my power gearbox and hoses. Where did you get your pump, pulley, and bracket from. I'm having a hard time finding these parts?

i have a 85 had it for 12 years great trucks i have to pump my gas pedal before starting it a few times then it revs perty high for a few sec then i take the choke off & let it rev for a little longer but my truck shakes a lot maybe a new carb kit would help but they are very easy to work on they are a breeze . but i think you should check your oil often to see if it burns oil if so then oohh oh rebuild engine

nick diaz hey thanks for sharing! I actually ended up having engine rebuilt by NAPA. They did a pretty good job. Check my update videos for all the work that went into the rebuild. It’s been a fun project so far, more to come thanks for watching.

I have a 74 gmc “value van”. It’s almost exactly like the P30 Stepvan, but it’s all steel. I’m looking for a 292 straight 6 to swap out with my old worn out 350. The 6’s have less hp but they last a lot longer... and I’m not hauling anything. I also have the 4spd Sm465 with the granny low. How much it to have NAPA rebuild your 292? They’re hard to find where I’m at.

Odins Lock, hey thanks for watching. The NAPA rebuild was around $1700. All in with parts, fluids, the rebuild, and other miscellaneous things associated with the rebuild it came in at around $2300. I’m also listing this truck for sale if you are interested.
