Thank you for watching! :) - Кино
I would love to see a video all about Nathan Fielder and his various projects (Nathan for You, The Rehearsal, The Curse). I believe he is one of the greatest minds of our time. He did, after all, go to business school and got really good grades.
One of Canada’s top business schools mind you

I was an extra in The Holdovers and I got to shake Alexander's hand and talk to him about filmmaking truly an amazing experience
O Brother, Where Art Thou is genuinely my favorite film of all time and I'm so glad it's getting some love. Every joke nails the landing, it looks and sounds gorgeous, has my favorite Cloony performance and is an all around masterwork imo.
"That don't make no sense!"
"Well Pete, it's a fool looks for logic in the chambers of the human heart."
My thoughts exactly when I saw a 35mm screening of In A Lonely Place at Metrograph theater in 2018!
What are you saying Joel Haver
this is a certified joel haver moment
did he go insaneo style
@@tomasperpetuo9036 bunko town
The metrograph is such a great theater I saw Mulholland drive there
I still think that you should have watched Fantastic Mr Fox for a third time but that time watch the animatic. You did normal viewing and audio commentary, the animatic would have completed the saga
Can't wait to hear your thoughts on "May December". Also curious about what people think of "Afire". "Anatomy of a Fall" was so amazing -- it's everything I want in a film -- compelling, entertaining, funny, suspenseful, amazing acting. It blew my mind!
I thought the first half of Roter Himmel was somewhat interesting, but by the end it left me completely cold. The Leon character was so annoying throughout and hard to relate to. 🫤
@@anwarski I didn't "get" this movie -- I think there was a lot of intertextuality with Rohmer and other things that just went over my head.
One of my favorites of the year (May December)! Incredible movie.
I watched both on San Sebastian Film Festival. I really liked "May, December". Fun, twisted, weird, acid, and surprinsingly human (loved the husband character). On the other side, I didn't like Afire at all. I thought it had very very little going on: "yes, he is a frustrated writer character and he is a hater....so?". The love interest character was super one dimensional, the friends where whatever and I hated the ending, I thought it was easy, manipulative and underserved.
He already watched it, I believe it's in his October wrap-up :)
I've never heard of Anatomy of a Fall, but I am super excited to watch it now. Based on your description, it sounds right up my alley.
It's a French movie which won the Palme D'or at Cannes Festival
Best movie of the year
Why? It's literally one of the best if not best movies of the this year, plus it's one of the most acclaimed movie of the year
It’s pretty great. Has maybe the most realistic portrayal of a struggling relationship I’ve ever seen on film. The argument scene was amazing
So happy O Brother Where Art Thou is getting the love it deserves. It’s always been one of my favorite films.
Misery is one of my favourite Stephen King adaptations of all time, and the only one to actually win an Oscar. While Kathy Bates definitely deserved her Oscar for her chilling performance, James Caan should also have been nominated for his work, in my opinion.
Your november really was insaneo style!
My watchlist in November:
-Killers of the Flower Moon: 5/5
-The Killer: 4/5
-Nénette: 4.5/5
-Poor Things: 5/5 (strong contender for movie of the year)
-Pointy-Headed Gonta: The Story of the Two-Named Dog in the Fukushima Disaster (man, what a mouthful): 3/5
-Kensuke's Kingdom: 3.5/5
-A Greyhound of a Girl: 3.5/5
-Four Souls of Coyote: 3.5/5
-The Boy and the Heron: 4.5/5
I also saw a crapton of animated short films as I attended a film festival.
@AgsmaJustAgsma I know not many will see your comment but I want to let you know that I found your comment and the movies you watched were cool.!!!!😊😊😊😊
I had no idea Kensuke's Kingdom was getting a movie but I now can't wait to see it when it gets a wide release in the UK. I was a huge Morpurgo fan as a kid and this was my favourite book by him
@@maxresdefault_ I believe it premiered at Annecy back in June. Can't say for sure how it matches up to the source material, which I never read, but it's a cute and sometimes gorgeous animated movie. What really surprised me was the star-studded cast: Cillian Murphy, Sally Hawkins and Ken Watanabe are in it.
I was excited to watch your TIFF video a while ago because I had just attended the Atlantic International Film Festival and was expecting to hear you talk about some that I had seen, but you didn't talk about any at all ahahaha. So, I'm pumped that you talked about Anatomy of a Fall and Fallen Leaves on this one!
In A Lonely Place is one of my favourite films, gotta give it a rewatch sometime soon.
Been waiting all week for this one omg
im glad at least one reviewer on youtube likes napoleon, i appreicate its direction its going and acknowledge the historical inaccuracies (that are prevalent in ALL historical epics in film) and can't wait for the 4 hour cut.
dont miss kurosawa’s follow up to dreams, Rhapsody in August, which i think is also pretty fantastic
Karsten I love all your videos man, and I just watched the boy and the heron. Loved every second. I’d love to hopefully see a studio ghibli films ranked video as the new one is just releasing. I think that would make an awesome video. Regardless, keep up the good work.
i think silver linings playbook is such a perfect movie to watch in the fall
Karsten giving it the same rating as No Hard Feelings is a crime. No Hard Feelings is one of the worst comedies I've seen in recent years
True Stories is genuinely so enjoyable
True Stories is a David Byrne classic.
My list for this last month was strangely similar! Great taste!
I saw Fantastic Mr Fox in the thumbnail so you know I had to watch
I know The Wailing (2016) is on your watchlist, I watched it today, and I can't wait for your review for it
I really liked Saltburn (even if I kept expecting my friend to appear, as she was at Oxford in 2006) but that might be because I’ve heard firsthand what it was like to be a kid from a comprehensive school going there at the time.
O Brother Where Art Thou is so slept on!!! One of my fav movies of all time
I found myself refreshing your channel to get your November run down so I can save your more interesting picks to my watch list.
Thing you can always count on:
- A calculator
- Your fingers
- Karsten doing an add read
I know not many will see your comment but I want to let you know that I found your comment and the movies you watched were cool.!!!!😊😊😊😊
the amount of times i’ve seen mr fox on this channel is crazy but it’s infinitely rewatchable so i don’t blame him
The car scene in Anatomy of a fall is one of the best scenes I’ve seen in a movie ever if yk yk ❤️❤️
Here's what I also watched this month:
Cat City (2017) - [4/5 Outside of Jonni Phillips immortal line in this thing, This is the first I've seen from Victoria Vincent's stuff and she did something really well done here in an existential way almost while still using it as a sense of humor, And the art style really tops her stuff off, Honestly worth it's minutes]
Killers Of The Flower Moon (2023) - [4/5 My first Martin Scorsese Experience I suppose, I really gotta see more of his stuff after this but for now I can really feel somewhere that's deeply impactful in how it uses its scenes in such manner despite how long it is, I gotta admit that I guess its kinda a dragged in my view which for a movie this devastating is alot for me before I process it but I still genuinely see the hype its growing along with, I might handle it appropriately on a rewatch]
Bring Me The Head Of Charlie Brown (1986) - [NR just see for yourself...]
Donks (2022) - [4/5 It's been a damn while since I've seen anything from Felix Colgrave, Yet seeing this should offer my time otherwise because something about this is quite my thing, The textures, The music pitching well with the visuals, How it paces itself, How it ends really is something wonderful to show off in these tight minutes and I'll love to see it in many times I please]
Destino (2003) - [3.5/5 *Re-Watch* Production aside, this is probably the most ambitious thing disney has ever pushed to release let alone a short, maybe that's what happens when you face the relationship of meeting someone as devious as dali..., While it is a shame that the short was too ambitious to respect its own intent at its own time, The new visuals brought to the table here are at the very least somewhat watchable
To interpret about, But damn something about it could've aged a bit better if Roy himself actually thinks about how it actually looks rather than appeal because dali isn't the guy for appeal OK, But negatives aside its still kinda a mindfuck to get through with its unbelievable transitions, Ideas, And kinda emotional themes once you start to sink in all it has to offer, It surprised me when I was 11 and it still surprises me today]
A Story (1987) [3.5 Even with Charlie Brown aside can we all agree that the dudes passing through CalArts were High As FUCK if you could tell me, And if so than I gotta respect that, Especially for Stanton himself]
Allegro Non Troppo (1976) - [4.5/5 *Re-Watch* Honestly kinda my shit, Sure it may be a little horny and all the nose but when these kinda ideas go into crazy directions could you even blame a concept as insane as this?, The live action really manages to be as campy as ever in a Whole Lotta Regard, And the animated segments themselves are quite a bunch to get through inspite of the cheap budget. If your starving for any sort of anything Fantasia related, You really are risking yourself to miss this]
Mary Poppins (1964) - [4/5 Is it just me or shouldn't Emma Tolkin bring this to her Vissually Insane List cause DAMN IS THIS NUTS, I'm the kinda guy that thinks many disney classics are not my thing but when they show off magic right they really don't just fly up when they can, They float down with believable maturity and honesty with such imaginative position and fun song writing that it actual manages to affect me in such a spirit that not a whole lot of disney films could understand in this kinda time at the very least, it's longer than usual but boy is it the most immense that I have ever got through with 2 hours, Damn I can't wait to see it again]
Opal (2020) [5/5 Speeking of the absolute opposite of wanting to watch again we have one of the most darkest metaphors of abuse to ever obliterate the screen, I usually consider it to be my thing but like damn, Just how it paces along just one horiffic conflict with the family to another is truly upsetting to think about but how it visualizes it is kinda beautiful in such a regard that even seeing it at home is still a huge mindfuck, Even at its whimsy, Horrific, Imaginative, Yet so real at the end, Now that is just horror]
Delicatessen (1991) - [4/5 *Watched in 35mm* I didn't expect a spokesman to show up but for a movie like this I gotta appreciate that cause damn was this crazy to get through even for a debt, The concept, The lighting, Even the score itself has no right to be this suspenseful and also this funny, It's alot to process in this short of a runtime but damn do I never regret it]
Krysař (1986) - [4.5/5 *Re-Watch* Not Going To Lie this has no right to hit this hard THIS short, The absolute structure of it all and how it paces, And even the visuals themselves are something to behold, It's a simple fairy tale but an absolutely effective one]
Mad God (2021) - [5/5 *Re-Watch* I guess the reason why I am obsessed with this in the first place was how it gave me the same wonder as Krysař so I guess that's that holds a candle to my experience buuut yeah its fucking Mod God, One of the most immersive films I've ever sat through still]
hell yeah i will be waiting for your review of the curse
I love 'Badlands', it's my favorite directorial debut ever.
Humbly requesting you put a little title card with the name of the movie for the duration of you talking about it. You always talk about a few things I've never heard of that sound great but I always have to scroll back in the video to check the movie's title again. Thanks king!
1) I’m SO glad you’re a Mike Birbiglia fan- his special “Thank God For Jokes” is the best stand-up special of all time imo.
2) PLEASE watch Juliet of the Spirits when you have the chance. It’s an amazing film that I think you particularly will appreciate more than most (and it might redeem Nic Cage’s letterboxd top four in your mind!🙂)
haven't had a chance of watching "napoleon" yet, from the reviews and fan reactions i've seen i've seen generally ok medium reviews but you're the only one who's genuinely praised it. might have to watch it soon now bc of that, and bc its ridley scott and joaquin phoenix.
Yeah dont watch it, critics are talking out of their ass cuz its ridley and joaquin. And anyone who knows even a little bit of history knows its complete dogshit, mostly made up, very boring and insultingly ridiculous. Im not a trusted reviewer like Karsten so obviously its valid if u dont agree, but just read some other comments on here i think a lot of ppl hated Napoleon or found it just boring. Its not even about Napoleon’s achievements, its just a toxic relationship with Josephine for 2 hrs while they skip past the most significant historical events of all time, plus most of it is just sort of British propaganda of the Napoleonic complex desperately trying to make him as pathetic as possible and acting like a manchild. Watched it with a few history masters students, they couldn’t help but laugh watching it. Even if u dont care about historical accuracy its barely even showing the subject it claims to portray. Idk maybe im very biased against it, but whats the point of a Napoleon movie if the writer David Scarpa knows nothing more than wikipedia facts, makes up half of the events, and just drags it out with boring melodrama and a whimpering Joaquin. (Ridley Scott he didnt bother to read any books, seems he just liked the idea of Napoleon and thats it, and its marketable. What an insult to Kubrick’s dedication to his failed napoleon project, or Waterloo 1970, which had actual passion for their subject)
Here are my November watches;
The Thing (1982) - 10/10 (John Carpenter's magnum opus. It's chilling, it's ambiguous, it has everything that you want in a horror movie and the practical effects are out of this world.)
The Thing (2011) - 7.5/10 (Surprisingly not as bad as I was expecting, decent characters paired up with some good tension, the creature effects are fine. If you didn't knew this movie is a prequel to John Carpenter's movie and it does a pretty good job at that I'd say.)
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World - 9/10 (Interesting premise that is executed at its fullest. Edger Wright did a fantastic job in retaining the charm of the comics while adding his own style and direction to it not to mention the cool action and really good characters. It's honestly one of the best comic book movie adaptations and I'd love to play the video game soon enough.)
Loki (Season 2) - 9/10 (The setup of season 1 truly paid off. I loved the fact that it completely revolves around the central characters, giving time and development to each while still making sure that the story is reaching an end goal. Loki has always been an interesting presence in the MCU and this show gives him the only thing he lacked, a purpose.)
Attack on Titan (Season 3 & Final Seasons) - 10/10 (Rewatching the series has been one of the best decisions I've ever made. Picking up on the subtle details, the nuances, the foreshadowing everything is so well planned and executed, it truly blows my mind. For me it is one of the best stories I've ever experienced and I'd love to revisit it again. Thank you AoT for an amazing decade of discussion, analysis and great storytelling.)
I know not many will see your comment but I want to let you know that I found your comment and the movies you watched were cool.!!!!😊😊😊😊
Anatomy of a Fall is my favorite of the year. Looking forward to hearing more of your thoughts on it!
Adored the holdovers favorite movie of the year not the BEST of the year just my favorite
Hey Karsten, do watch if you have the time "When Evil Lurks" and "The Delinquents" two movies from my country (Argentina) which are making numbers, I'm intrigued by your opinion on them!
I've been watching Scott Pilgrim as well, and I agree with you. Sometimes, the voice acting holds it back. Not all the time, though, and never enough for me to dislike the show. And the animation is really good, very creative!
Also, I've been watching the new season of Fargo. I hope you do, too, because I imagine you might like it. I feel like it could be the best season yet.
My 4,5-5 watches; Oppenheimer, The Crowded Room, Love & Death, Past Lives, The Hunger Games saga was very enjoyable to rewatch, The Muppets Christmas Carol, rewatch of Invincible S1 (really don’t know what to think about S2 yet), been watching Exodus and started to rewatch The Walking Dead (S1-2 were amazing again!)
Dreams is the sleepiest movie of all time. I usually love that comfy zone Kurosawa puts me in, but dreams is just sooooooo rough
the jumpscare when i'm watching and doing homework and karsten says my freaking name so abruptly 2:22
The kitchen argument in Anatomy of a Fall is the best acting I have seen all year.
Anatonomy of a Fall apaprently got European award for best film which is cool
I literally started last month with Dreams. What a crazy coincidence but what a great movie
eagerly awaiting a next goal wins review
It’ll be exciting when I watch these movies as the only three I’ve seen are Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (childhood classic), Silver Linings Playbook watched not too long ago in my Great Directors class), and Napoleon (saw it in theaters). I’m hyped to shortly watch Fantastic Mr. Fox, Killers of the Flower Moon, No Hard Feelings, etc.

Perfect Blue hell yeaaasssss
what did u think of Wish? I'm very unsure about what i've heard about it, I'm glad ppl are going to see these new movies in theaters though, Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes seems great.
@@GuineaPigEveryday Great songs/score, amazing third act, a kinda good animation style, perfect voice acting, & terrible story writing with sloppy script. It's a ⭐6.5/10 for me.
@@rezaardiansyah1034 okay cool i had expected the script to be poor considering all the trailers having really forced comedy. But pleasantly surprised the songs r good, i rlly love Ariana DeBose as an actress, she kicked ass in West side story, so i dont doubt she does a great job, but unfortunately her name might get dragged in the mud thx to this film. Though unlike the live action remakes ppl dont seem to bothered with this one
yeah i’ll need that coen brothers ranking asap
Dude, I can't stress this enough... You GOTS to watch some more Animated Flicks! I've barely seen you talk about much since How Do You Live, mayne. NIMONA, RUBY GILLMAN, and MUTANT MAYHEM are waiting for ya!!!!!!!!!!
Karsten I have a video you should do: Omni man vs homelander. Examining both of their seemingly similar characteristics
Since it’s a few days into December I’m just gonna include my November watches and the first few I’ve done so far this month.

Oh man. You gotta watch “I Heart Huckabees” next.
Please watch Monster! Really curious to see what you think about that one. Probably my favorite movie of the year 🙏
I quite enjoyed the holdovers. Had more cussing than I expected in a Christmas movie but that's very fair. I think my favorite aspect was the acting.
not surprised you say saltburn is smug when emerald fennell seems pretty smug too
please watch ‘i love huckabees’, one of the most divisive movies i’ve encountered. i adore it but so many people absolutely despise it
I don’t usually subscribe but I love this shit
When I get more time to watch movies, I will rewatch these videos and take notes ✍

DUDE YAH GOTTA WATCH I HEART HUCKABEES NOW I MUST HEAR THOSE TASTY THOUGHT MORSELS
I literally watched fantastic Mr fox yesterday
Its quite fun to see other people also mentioning their November watchlist, I'm glad this is a positive sort of film community considering how many recent youtube accounts there are dedicated to tearing down films.
This was my watchlist for November, apologies for the length lol
The Exorcist (rewatch) (5/5)
Caine Mutiny Court-Martial (2023) (3/5)
The Negotiator (4/5 but a personal guilty-pleasure tbh)
Guillermo Del Toro's Pinnochio (5/5)
The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (5/5)
Heat (rewatch) (5/5)
The Burial (2023) (3/5)
Road Games (3/5 still don't know what to make of ending, but very unique and fun)
Labyrinth (rewatch) (5/5)
The Right Stuff (2/5, personally it's really only so beloved because of the subject matter and performances, the script is awful, very crude and mean-spirited)
Lost Command (1966) (3/5 great old-fashioned war movie, schlocky but fun with Anthony Quinn in lead)
Napoleon (1/5 actors did their best but honestly horrible script, insulting to history)
Lord of War (2005) (2.5/5 definitely enjoyable and sort of funny, appreciate the history, but very exaggerated)
Fort Apache (1948) (3/5 for sure a classic just not my style really)
The Blob (1988) (3.5/5 very fun 80s b-movie monster)
The Professionals (1969) (4/5 awesome Western)
War Machine (2017) (1.5/5, honestly pretentious narration and pandering, was talking down to audience the whole time, dumbed down history, Brad Pitt chose a very weird performance but still did his best)
Dreams isn’t Kurosawa’s last. Two more are after that: Rhapsody in August (1991) and Madadayo (1993).
Please Karsten. I found a movie that I want you to see.
Its quite similar to No Hard Feelings with that "Blockbuster" type style of movie you described.
Its called "Match Me If You Can"
I know, I know, it's a corny name. But trust me when I say this, it gave me the same feeling I had when I saw Mean Girls.
I will forever love o brother where art thou
In a Lonely Place is absolute perfection. Humphrey Bogart is the probably the greatest actor ever if we're being honest.
We’re in a tight spot!
If you want to see a great David O. Russell film, watch "Three Kings". That's his masterpiece imo.
Not a fan of the guy personally, based on what I've seen of how he treats people on set, but "Three Kings" is definitely worth a watch.
i'm glad you pointed out Brendan Fraser in KOTFM, and how out of place his role feels. Way too over the top. However I can't cosign the support for Napoleon, and the manic direction.
Checkout "Flora and son" please!!
Can't believe I have such opposite views to you of both Saltburn and Napoleon! XD
I’m on the same page, shocked
same page lol, hated Napoleon with my soul, probably cuz i study history, but it also felt so boring and poorly written
Hey! Can you give ur opinion on legends of the fall too?😢 it’s not talked about enough
Mike Birbiglia Supremacy

Okay i dont know any of these films, i assume they’re like french artsy stuff? Sounds super interesting though
Anytime karsten says something is devastating 8.5/10 it’s most likely not. I wish I could watch movies like him and be affected like him sometimes. He’ll see a shot of a crow fly off a roof and be like “it’s so devastating”
It’s crazy how different taste are with film I did not like napoleon super boring. I loved saltburn did not think it was bad at all.
make a nolan ranked pls
I watched Dreams Last night sir. It was pretty damn amazing in a whole lot of ways.
Hey Karsten, I miss the podcast!

"Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory"
"Anatomy of a Fall"
4/5
"Misery"
"Fantastic Mr. Fox"
"No Hard Feelings"
4.5/5
"O Brother, Where Art Thou?"
"Silver Linings Playbook"
I started the month with the new Haunted Mansion movie. It was fine. Pretty standard modern live action Disney movie. Didn't actively dislike it like most of the recent disney movies, but it's still kinda just a 6/10. I find it weird that they got Jared Leto only to give him a cgi face and a pitched down voice. Really should've been a proper voice actor.
Next I watched Oppenheimer. Completely lives up to the hype. I don't really have anything to say that hasn't already been said, go watch it.
About 20 minutes later I watched Barbie. That felt like a fever dream and I'm genuinely not sure if I mean that in a good way or not. Watching it immediately after Oppenheimer was very much a mistake, and I did it fully aware that it would be.
Next I rewatched the Kaguya-sama Love is War movie, this time dubbed. First time coming back to the dub after rewatching the series subbed, and I still think the dub is really good. I still love the movie as well, though I wish the side characters got a bit more screen time. It really seems like there's set up for a sub plot with them early on, but it kinda just disappears until a couple brief shots towards the end.
Lastly (technically this month but whatever), I watched Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. Much like Haunted Mansion, it was kinda just a modern Disney movie that was perfectly fine but kinda bland. Ending was really good, but the rest was oddly kinda boring for Indiana Jones. Still liked it more than Temple of Doom. Probably more than Crystal Skull too.
Additionally, I watched Scott Pilgrim Takes Off. Finished it in like a day and a half, fastest I've ever finished a streaming show. Looking back on it, it's solid, though I don't absolutely love it as much as a lot of people seem to do. I think I probably would've preferred it to be a 1:1 adaptation, but I don't think I would've been as absolutely hooked as I was with what we got.
I fully intended on starting the new godzilla series this past month, but I kinda just haven't gotten to it yet. Oops
Can someone please help me find an old video from this channel? I remember it was about subtle acting. And it broke down the guy yawning from the movie Burning Steven yuen
I tried searching “karsten subtle acting” and looking through the videos but can’t find it. I think it came out like 2-3 years ago. Does anyone remember this?

After Nathan For You, Nathan Fielder just said “you know what? I think I’ll take the Jordan Peele route and incorporate some darkness into my comedy! Why not?”
Btw I know that Fielder’s *dark* elements are more reminiscent of David lynch rather than Peele’s allegorical and horror-based
