Thank you for watching! :)
I watched The Last of Us episode 3, and I did not expect to be emotionally wrecked by THAT show. I don’t cry at movies, but the whole episode was so beautiful and heartbreaking that I bawled my eyes out.
i feel like it is a skipable episode
you need to think about your standards of media, that episode was a mess
it made me sob too

PLEASE do a video essay about babylon! i wanna hear your opinion about it for at least 10 minutes longer than this one like this ain't enough!!!
The “hey Buddy” at the beginning made me double check with my roommate that he didn’t say anything.
Yeah I can't stop thinking about Babylon. What a crazy crazy experience, and so excellently executed. It blew me away honestly.
I watched Skinamarink, and I thought it was an amazing avant-garde horror movie that actually scared the shit out of me at times. At other times, it can be extremely boring, however I do wanna say that I think when it's good, it's a genre defining, artsy, horrifying good. I didn't know it went viral on TikTok, seems weird, but I do think if horror movies went into some of the creativity that Skinamarink did, it would be a revival for that genre.
I was also a big fan of skinamarink. I don’t know if I’ll watch it again but there are scenes from that movie that will be burned into my head, particularly the last scene. I am also a massive fan of analogue horror and I think the movie was a really good showing of what analogue horror is in essence.
it went viral on tiktok because the younger generation has an appreciation for analogue horror, which this movie definitely falls under.
@@deletedkneecaps I think that’s a reason for it but TikTok has an awful reputation of finding a “scary” movie and blowing it out of proportions. They did that with Incantation which I really liked but it wasn’t the most horrifying thing I had ever seen. I went into skinamarink thinking that it actually wouldn’t be that scary since it was so hyped haha. I was pleasantly surprised when it ended up being the actual scariest movie I had ever seen.
@@davismorgan99 @deletedkneecaps5819 I also have to say I think a lot of these tiktok kids have quite literally only grown up in a world where stuff like MCU films and sequels dominate the world of film as well. I think no matter how invested they may be into those worlds they begin to start looking for something different and experimental that feels less contrived than their counterparts. There’s no better way to market to young people than to make a movie that feels like punk rock horror 👍
Babylon is so underrated. It was such an amazing IMAX experience.
Ayo how’d you watch it in IMAX
its perfectly rated
I hated it...I feel like its a typical movie for movie lovers who love hollywood or whatever. For me it was boring
I wish i could’ve watched it then but there’s only one imax theater near me and usually movies only play for a week on imax. I was so salty I didn’t get to see it in theaters I still haven’t watched it lol
Incredible film
I’ve yet to see skinamarink in it’s entirety, I don’t know if I ever will, but from the things I’ve seen of it I think it would shake me. I used to have chronic nightmares as a child, frequently involving the devil, demonic forces, etc. and one scene I saw reminded me of a specific dream I had when I was 5-6 years old where the devil told me to get a knife, and gave me 10 seconds to find it or I’d be punished. The fact that scene is so close to what happened in my dream is unsettling to think about.
I just finished watching it, it really does feel like someone climbed into one of your childhood nightmares and filmed it. Cursed movie 😭😭
I used to have nightmares every night as a kid and as I have grown as a person I started to love the horror genre and no movie has come even close to how scary my dreams were but skinamarink was amazing but I was kinda high so I’m gonna need to rewatch sober
The last scene is the best/scariest bit of the film I would recommend seeing it through
I love Logan Lucky. My 10th grade AP U.S. History teacher had us watch this movie just because he liked it so much. I show it to everyone who hasn't seen it because I've literally heard no one talk about it and it is so funny and charming.
It’s one of of those movies that the few people who have seen it love it but it never gets brought up. I am one of those people
My twelfth grade anatomy teacher also really liked it, I believe. Interesting coincidence there!
Man, I literally just turned to my girlfriend and said to her: oh shit it's Feb 03, Karsten must have already put his "What I watched in January" video on RUclips. I open the app, you have just uploaded. Crazy! Love from Brazil, man. We're always watching your videos together while we have dinner.
Haha… I’m lonely…

I discovered Logan Lucky when I searched for Soderbergh films and was stunned that I’d never heard of it. Watched it instantly. Loved it instantly.
Now that it's officially happened three times, I'm declaring that "Daniel Craig having a Southern accent in a movie" is officially a sign that the movie in question is going to be flipping dope!
*utter dogshit
I guarantee you Skinamarink is scarier alone at night, I don’t think it should be seen on the big screen, but even then it’s definitely not for everyone, it’s hard to explain why it terrified me more than any other horror movie in years. All I can say is it made me feel like a scared kid.
I really love this type of videos where you talk about all you watched
Honestly feel like while visually all quiet on the western front may be similar to other war films, we rarely see a war film from a losing countries POV and how truly no one survives a war even its “survivors”. Like when has a movie had a soldier kill and then cry w guilt over the man he killed, or a soldier be shot after the war is over by a farmers kid after he took some food. Feel like the film brought a lot of real depressingly horrifying truth to a genre that is usually full of heroism and honor worship (even 1917 despite enjoying that movie does this)
I loved Babylon too! One of the best experiencies I've had at the cinema in a while.

In the UK puss in boots 2 just released. I'm going to watch it tomorrow and can't wait.
6/5 let’s gooo Puss in Boots is so good
@@joshevans3421 You won't regret it!
DONKS was released on Feb 2nd, how did you watch it in January?
puss in boots is outta control
Taylor Swift being run over by a truck was probably the funniest scene in any movie in 2022. Absolute gold.
Finally someone else who gets that Magic Mike XXL is genuinely good. Is it *cinema*? No? Is it a fun feel good movie that makes you feel great when it's over? Absolutely.

Stop, I absolutely loved Babylon I can't believe all the shit it's getting, I was genuinely blown away when my friend brought me to see it 😂😂
ikr its so good
You're not crazy...Babylon is deserving of so much praise! I would love to hear more of your thoughts on the film...seems like you had more to say, but for now, loved what you said!
After watching it twice this week, I still can't get the film out of my head and I'm a wee bit shocked at its polarised reviews. Maybe it's too raunchy or the ridiculous scenes with bodily fluids put people off quickly, or the ending was too out there?
To me, the ' messiness' that's being said as a criticism of the film, feels refreshing and brave. You can really tell that Chazelle spent 15 years (or so) passionately researching for the film, and having experimental fun with the pacing, cinematography, the emotional swell of the ending etc...because he just had so much to say. All the jam packed montage sequences accompanied by the howling brassy Hurwitz score that's an alternate universe La La Land soundtrack, is just such a thrilling ride! It sure is messy but Hollywood is messy, and like you said, Babylon so bluntly captures the Siren that is Hollywood.
YES! Completely agree on your thoughts!
Fully agree. I think it’s one that will age well - the experience of watching it in the cinema was genuinely wonderful (even though yes a bit too long).
@@olliemartinelli4034 Yeah you're right, at the moment I'm seeing reviews missing the entire point of the film, but in the long run it'll definitely be remembered and appreciated!
omg hearing you talk about 'rye lane' as someone who lived in peckham is so funny since i view you and peckham as just in two completely different worlds. i was thinking the movie wouldn't get big and would be something that kind of just remained talked about in london so im glad to hear its at sundance and that you loved it, i can't wait to see it!!
Logan lucky is such a slept on movie I absolutely love it and will come back to wtCh it every now and then. I saw someone describe it as a Southern Fried Heist which is the most accurate way to describe that movie
As a NASCAR fan I'm glad that Logan Lucky finally brought us a good NASCAR movie

Karsten! I can't believe you rated Amsterdam 6 out of 5 stars, and you called it your new favorite movie and the greatest movie of all time!
SPOILERS MAN! Some of us read comments before the video is over. Anyway congrats to Karsten on his new favourite movie, excellent pick 👌
I went to see Logan Lucky because some other movie got cancelled at the time, & adored it.
It flew under everyone's radar for no reason.
when he still makes us content even though he has a lil cold >>>>>>>
Your criticisms of Jamojaya from 11:46-12:09 are almost word for word exactly how I felt about American Honey from 2016
ngl i get so happy when i see these videos i love how you talk about these movies.
Yo feel better dude!!! Thank you again for coming to our screening 🙏🏼❤️
This is literally the only thing that I look forward to in my life.
I watched Mean Streats, Taxi Driver, Shutter Island. I then watched Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill Vol.1&2. Which I loved as I'm making my way through Scorcese and Tarantino's movies. Then I watched Diary of Teenage Girl 10/10 and Nightcrawler.
Oh I also watched Superbad for the first time ever
Superbad hilarious
I appreciate your take on Skinamarink. I am the type of person who was terrified of it just for the suspense it managed to create with relatively little. I get why people don’t like it but it was legitimately the most scared I have ever been while seeing a movie and is the only time in my life where I’ve wanted a movie to end because I was so freaked out. That being said, I don’t think I will ever watch it again and I think the discourse and speculation about the plot is what makes it stand out to me rather than the actual film itself.
Horror movies generally don’t scare me but I still enjoy them. This one though had me actually covering up my eyes at points and I kind of wanted it to hurry up and end.
I personally really enjoyed Amsterdam. Little recently, or at all, have I experienced an emotional connection within a fictional experience. but I guess this is what makes movies great!
Babylon just sticks with you, I think it's a masterpiece .
Logan Lucky is easily one of my top movies of all time. It definitely has my favourite movie ending. So incredibly satisfying.
The “hey buddy” at the beginning had me feeling some type of way. I think I just made a friend. 😊

The pale blue eye- 3/5

I also watched 25 short films by auteur directors (Denis Villeneuve, Robert Eggers, Bong Joon-ho, Martin McDonagh to name a few), Copenhagen Cowboy (a 6 episode Danish miniseries on Netflix by Nicolas Winding Refn), 3 episodes of The last of us, 2 episodes of Shrinking and 1 episode of How I met your father s2.
The last of us episode 3 is hands down the best thing I watched all month, absolutely incredible.
What was Copenhagen cowboy like? Big refn fan but haven't watched much of his newer work
@@285-h2u Visually, it's stunning like most of NWR's work, a great exercise in style. The premise is interesting but takes time to build up. You gotta be really patient.
Surreal seeing youtubers talk about Theater Camp now. That was two months of my life last summer. A great time.
I went all of the way from Liverpool, uk to Sundance and despite the long travel time it was well worth it! I had an all access pass
I started the year with Puss in Boots 2, and what a way to start. Easily one of my favorite Dreamworks movies. Excellent story, excellent animation, everything about it completely lived up to the hype (for me at least).
Next, I rewatched Glass Onion. I didn't think it would hold up on rewatch quite as well, but I actually think I liked it better the second time? I really took issue with the pacing the first time through, but knowing what was going on made the pacing feel less odd.
Last (for movies at least), I watched The Banshees of Inisherin. I really enjoyed this movie. I kinda took issue with some things that happen towards the end, but the more this film has sat with me, the more I appreciate the movie regardless of those issues.
For tv, I watched the first 2 episodes of Poker Face, and the first 3 episodes of The Last of Us.
I've really liked Poker Face so far. I like it's take on the murder mystery genre, in that the question is not who did it. Hopefully I can find the time to catch up on it before it ends.
Spoilers for episode 3 of The Last of Us ahead
I've really enjoyed The Last of Us so far. I've never played the game (nor do I plan to, not my kind of game), but I can still tell how well it adapts the game. The first 2 episodes are both excellent.
Episode 3 is easily a 10/10... as a side story. As an episode of the main series, it's not great. It spends far too much time away from the main characters, especially considering that the characters this episode focuses on both die at the end. This episode could've been handled much better as an episode of The Last of Us. That doesn't really matter though. This episode was one of the best gay romances I've ever seen, some perfect representation from the last place I would've expected to get it
The thing with tlou episode 3 is that it's very much an important story thematically. The last of us is a story about love and the different ways and lengths people go for someone they care about. Episode 3 functions as a display of the pure _good_ that love can bring you and bring the people around you. The happy ending here effectively juxtaposes all the bad and Bill, as a foil for Joel, shows him the importance and the joy you can get out of finding someone to protect, and doing so successfully. something that joel is yet to do
BRO THE DEAD DONT DIE IS SO GOOD IM UNBELIEVEABLY GLAD TO HEAR YOU PRAISING IT
Hey Karsten, I love watching your "what I watched"-videos, I found so many movies for my watchlist, it's great.
But there is some feedback: For me, the showing of the names is too short and often I need to go 30 seconds back in the video, because you got me hyped about the movie, but already forgot the name.
There are some things you could do:
1. add chapters in your videos
2. show a little text with the name of the movie in some corner during the discussion.
I would really appreciate that. Thanks for your videos!
I agree with the showing of the names part, i usually have to figure out what movie it is through visuals or just go back to where he shows the name.
To karsten the most similar movie to Paddington 2 is Magic Mike 2. Of Course

Also I'm glad you talked about Tokyo Drifter. It's a pretty cool movie. Suzuki's Branded to Kill I vaguely remember being just OK. There was actually another very similar Yakuza movie that came out the same year as Branded, also starring Joe Shishido called A Colt is My Passport. Both movies even had some extremely similar parts, but I thought Colt was the way better of the two and handled its similar scenes better.
I rewatched Sexy Beast, Fallen Angels and The Train(1964) aaaand fell in love with cinema again for the 1000th time
Just because we have "seen something before" doesn't mean newer generations will have. All Quiet on the Western Front might not be all too original, but it's hard to criticize the movie for it.
I watched Babylon twice in the cinema, absolutely mesmerised
I mean, All Quiet on the Western Front is more important than you might think. Because the original book was a German author critiquing his own country's military. Which was very dangerous back then. And this new film is the first time Germany is adapting their own story
I think critizising All Quiet for not doing anything new is really unfair, since it's based on the book that essentially started the anti-war war story genre. So obviously it won't do anything brand new since it's the OG war story
that " hey buddy " in the beginning gave me life
I live for these
I'm so glad Logan Lucky got a shout out, it's one my favourite movies, couldn't believe you hadn't seen it
i’d love to know what people think about the ending sequence of movies shown in babylon.
Just seen it, I loved it!
It was good until they showed avatar
It was neat, but it also came at a point where I was starting to feel the length. Also, if you'd have told me that the T-1000, Velociraptors, and the Na'vi were going to appear in the same movie about 1920's Hollywood...
I would've imagined something way more wild than how it actually played out, but still cool.
I'm not sure whether or not I like it but I certainly respect the audacity of it

I haven't seen anything else this month because I've been too busy watching south park. goes to show just how good the south park movie was that it made me fail my new years resolution already (watch more cinema.)

I went to Sundance and Bad Behavior was one of my favorites, I think it is worth it just by Jennifer Connelly’s acting. I loved the humor and it always keeps you entertained . I would rate it higher just because it feels fun.
I agree with your opinion of babylon, but not about Amsterdam. It was a good story, great actors. It wasn’t bad
Yo. I've watched:
Before Sunrise (first time, 8/10)
The Thing (rewatch, 10/10)
Harry Potter's 1 through 6 (rewatch on all of them, 3 is my favorite if anyone cares and I would give it a 10/10, 4th one kind of sucks 5/10)
Rashomon (first time, 8/10)
You need to watch "Argentina, 1985"
I also watched Amsterdam on a plane, and I feel you. I did not expect it to be that bad-and it’s a shame, because there’s an interesting idea (namely Smedley Butler’s real-life story) squandered on a meandering, unfocused plot that, as you suggest, fails on multiple levels.

I’ll have to try out Babylon. I had absolutely no interest in seeing it because the marketing for it was god awful and made it look like a nonsense film about nothing but Hollywood being obsessed with itself and partying. Also am I the only one who got it confused with Amsterdam because both starred big name actors, particularly Margot Robbie, in a time period movie? Really thought it was the same thing

I had the exact opposite experience with Amsterdam. I was expecting some horrible movie, but I just kind of went with it, and was pleasently surprised.
Just finished it and I am in the sasame position as you. It's not a masterpiece obviously but it was way better than what I heard. Honestly, I'm starting to think the people have issues with the director (who I don't know very well, never saw anything he did I think) and so they say the movie sucks.
Logan Lucky is a sleeper amazing highest movie. And at this point it feels like Karsten is just avoiding Puss in Boots 2. Watch it already!
YES rye lane! Loved it!! Whole theater was goofin
I think you should do a video about hidden gems and streaming services
When are you gonna rank the Coen’s movies?
Yeah Logan Lucky is super underrated. I’m sorry I never told you! Haha
i know how it feels, i'm having a cold too🥲
I wasn't aware that it was mostly kids who went to watch Skinamarink in theaters, although it makes sense given it went viral on Tiktok. Still really weird though given that it's supposed to be a horror movie, and yet Tiktok kids went to see it.

Licorice pizza
Chicago 1927
Chico and rita
Aftersun
Let freedom ring
Mission impossible 2
