DORDOGNE DELIGHTS, A SAD ANNOUNCEMENT, A MAJOR CHALLENGE & AN AMAZING CHATEAU STAY

- After some sad circumstances, our dear friends Steve & Sara saved the new year with a very special invitation. Their "new" Chateau de St. Germain-des-Prés in the Dordogne, magnificent and welcoming and happy, was the perfect place to welcome slightly heartbroken guests. We were treated to delightful visits around the Dordogne and Correze countryside, and Sara and I planned an extraordinary challenge. Will we rise to the occasion? Who are the other friends joining us in Venice? Is it humanly possible to create several 18th century costumes in a couple of weeks? Projects are still underway at our own little château, and - most importantly- should Simon wear the cravat?
ABOUT US:
Hello! I’m Vivienne, the châtelaine of a small 19th century neo-Renaissance castle in the Loire Valley of France, which I share with my delightful (and wonderfully funny!) husband, Simon, our daughter, pets, and -whenever possible- lovely friends and family.
This is not our first chateau! 20 years ago, we bought a much larger castle nearby, which we loved with all our hearts. However, nearly 18 years, many happy memories, countless renovations, and several small fortunes later, we made the very difficult, empty-nesting decision to downsize. With great luck and perseverance, we found our current petit château, which we are now decorating and updating with love, humour, comfort, and -of course- antiques and art!
We adore France and its many unique facets: its people, culture, landscapes, wine, food, art, and history. We also love being surrounded by châteaux, both public and private, which we can explore together! After 20 years here, we have learned many things about living in France, renovating châteaux, and appreciating the extraordinary riches surrounding us. We originally decided to make these videos as a way to share our lives with our loved ones worldwide during the pandemic lockdowns. However, we soon realised that many others are at home alone, and it is our privilege to open our home to you, our new friends. We hope you will join us on our adventures in this exceptional location, and we look forward to sharing a little Château Love!

So sorry about your precious Pavlova. Terribly hard to lose a beloved pet.
Looking forward to seeing your stunning costumes! I'm sure you will master the costume making effort because you are so clever and talented and have such exquisite taste! AND yes to the cravat.....l remember how handsome Richard Burton looked in his....! 💗💗💗
So terribly sad to hear about beautiful Pavlova. Dogs leave their paw prints on our hearts. Bless you both x x
My heart reaches out to you with the loss of your little precious one❤
Vivienne, I admire your editting style. I like Go hard or go home, lol. Sewing is hard. As for the cravat, of course that's a win. Thank you for sharing beauty and grace.
I am so sorry to hear you lost your precious Pavlova, such a sweet baby.
Thank you. You are too kind. 💖
Oh my heart pains for you💜 I lost my sweet Great Dane 5 days before Christmas last year. It only hurts so much because we love so much. Let's hope you will heal enough room in your heart to bring another dog into your life.
The last photo with you and Pavlova viewing the sunset is spectacular. Perhaps Steve will paint that for you? ♥️
Tell Simon that the cravat is very handsome on him!
Hi Kelly, thank you so much for your kind words, and so very sorry to hear of your Great Dane. The last photo was actually our daughter, Isabella, though we both have long hair. Simon says “thank you!” for his compliment. He may return to cravats after all! 🏰💖
I am so sorry for your loss ❤️❤️
My heartfelt condolences on the loss of sweet Pavlova. We give them the best life and when it’s time, we let them sleep. It’s never long enough
What a beautiful episode! Firstly...I'm so sorry for your loss of Pavlova. Losing our fur babies is so heartbreaking, so I truly feel your loss. On a brighter note, I lived for 10 years in Correze, which is the department where Saint Robert lies. It's not actually in Dordogne but very close by. I ran a beautiful B&B in another "Plus beaux villages de France", Treignac-sur-Vezere" which is just north of there. We purchased a lovely 16th century Noble house in the heart of the village, which we totally restored and then went on to restore a 16th century barn as well. I'm a new viewer but I'm loving your vlogs and appreciate your beautiful, warm spirits and amazing sense of style in everything you do. Bisous x
Another great video guys. ♥️ Cravat is definitely a yes 👍👍👍
Thank you, Chris!! I’ll pass on the thumbs up to Simon, and lots of love to you in sunny Portugal! 💖💖🏰💖
Yes on the Cravat!!! The weather is the main reason and we all want your husband well forever and they are very stylish.
If you like it, it doesn't matter who doesn't!!!
Have a wonderful week!!!
There is a special place in heaven for pets that give us unconditional love. Rest in peace Pavlova...you were loved very much!! Vivienne and Simon...you bring so much joy to many people and we thank you so much. God bless!!
So sorry to hear of the loss of the beautiful Pavlova, her soul will be with you always as you were so close in life. We were so lucky to have met Pavlova, and are very lucky to have you as friends. Such a great visit, and we are so excited about Venice!
The luck is so mutual! Canada’s loss is definitely France’s (and our) gain. 💖💖💖💖💖We are counting down the days… start powdering those wigs! 🏰💕
I am very sorry for your loss. Pavlova will missed and remembered fondly. Lovely to see you visiting Sarah and Steve at New Years. You don’t always need a crowd to have a good time. I shall look forward to seeing the costumes you and Sarah create. Thanks Vivienne and Simon🙏🏻❤️
Deepest sympathies on the loss of your pup. Such a happy pup. You gave such love and joy to that dear fur baby.
Thank you, Norma. You are very kind. 🏰💖

So sorry for the loss of Pavlova. I love your spirit after such a difficult time. Yes to the cravat!

So sorry for your loss of your adorable Pavlova. She’s bounding about over the rainbow bridge and watching over you, I’m sure. 🌈 It’s so wonderful that you spent a glorious time with Sarah and Steve……the costume making sounds like an enormous challenge, but fun. You have such a kind way about you! I was shocked to hear about your little dog. So sorry. I don't know how you managed to turn the new year around with not having your daughter come in and other house guests and missing your pup. I admire you because I know that's difficult to do. Your channel is rightfully called Chateau Love. So happy you have Simon. You make a special couple on enjoyable adventures always looking for the beauty, fun and friendships. (This is how you turned it around...)

To part with the love ones human or animal is so hard. But the memories will be your best comfort. Hope you all have a wonderful time getting ready for the up coming Ball. Can not wait to see your outfits. They will be amazing.

Oh Vivienne I’ve just watched your video..it bought a tear to my eye 😢 I know the pain of losing a beloved dog 🐾 Pavlova had the best life with you & shes now running free over the rainbow 🌈 she’ll always be with you in your heart. Hugs ❤️
Love your vlog! I can’t wait to see your costumes. The scenery was beautiful at Steve and Sarah’s. I’m sooo sorry about your beloved puppy. 🥲🐶💙 Today we had to make the very hard decision to our beloved Bichon to sleep. He was 16 1/2 yrs old. We had him for 15 wonderful yrs. He was my fur baby…as well as my first dog, so I feel your pain. The comforting thought is that both our fur babies aren’t in any pain anymore. Heaven has gained 2 beautiful doggy souls!!! 🐶💖🐶💙🐾🙏

Thank you for sharing both you sorrows and your joys! The holidays go by so quickly, and coping with both loss while celebrating the good things of life is a capability for balancing things that is, I believe, to be rather rare. Wishing you the best things your journey offers during 2022. Thank you so much for taking us along to see SO many beautiful places in France!

I'm so sorry about your precious pooch. That must have been hard, given the proximity to a more lonely that usual Christmas. Thanks for the great vlog and for sharing all the fun you had with Steve and Sarah. As one who also spent a lonely holiday, I really enjoyed seeing you all together having fun and deepening your relationships. Best of luck with your sewing project!! ❤️

I am so sad about your loss,my chahuahua Hugo died suddenly on the 22nd December, so I wish you all the best for 2022
So sorry to hear of Pavlova’s passing. It’s never easy losing a fur baby. I’m on team yeah for cravet (sp?). Simon looks very handsome with one. I was drooling at the beautiful countryside during your tour with Steve and Sarah. I have been sewing for over 55 years and can’t wait to see your costumes. In another vlog, one of the chateaulians (sp?) was browsing in a fabric store and I was drooling over all the beautiful fabrics. I would go broke in that store🤣🤣🤣Really loved this vlog and the end shot with you and your dog was beautiful and a tear jerker. Thanks for sharing 😍😘
Yes to the cravat. It's a wonderful and refined look. I pipe would look smashing. So go hard or go home! LOL!
I'm so very sorry that you both lost your very beautiful dog. I've been there a few times. Much empathy, David x
Thank you so much, David. I’m so sorry for your furry losses, too. They stay with us in our hearts forever. 💖💖💖

Such a beautiful blog such a beautiful couple and friends but such sad news about Pavlova's passing. Thank you for sharing x
So very very sorry to hear about Pavlova's passing 😢.
I pray focusing on new hobbies and adventures 🙏 will keep you occupied as you continue to heal.
You know Johnny & Ashley of "The Art of Chateau Living" lost their beloved Abernathy a few months ago. And I haven't seen where they have posted a video since then. Miss their videos and I really pray they are doing well 🙏 and healing as well.
Be Blessed 🙌 guys. Will be looking forward to the costume making videos. Be great if the other Chateaux vloggers could go at the same time.
I know Stephanie and the La landers lol have talked about it. As well as Michael Petherick. Think you all would have an absolute blast.
A dogs love is forever til you meet again after a long and happy life!
That was a great video - full of friends, regional and historic beauty, great food, and sadly, the loss of your Pavlova. Thank you. I am living in Steve and Sara’s former area in southern Ontario and I follow them as well as several other people you have visited this year. I hope 2022 brings you ll a happy and safe year and that you can have family and friends from far away visit you in France.
Your Sisters singing is really lovely. 😀
Fun vlog, especially liked the dancing, not enough though, the gentleman was made for the "cravat", very handsome and English gentleman looking, keep wearing it. Would love to see some sewing vlog's?
So sorry to hear about your beautiful dog. My husband and I were alone at Christmas as well. Our daughter lives in Arizona, and we live in Illinois and our son and daughter-in-law live 70 miles away from us and were not able to come. Thank you so much for your vlogs!
Love the cravat.
Creating the costumes sounds so exciting!!!! Can't wait to see what you and Sara make together!!! Simon rocks the Cravat!! Simon should wear it daily and bring it back to popularity.Simon's gift wrapping is lovely. I really enjoyed Steve and Sara's taking us on a tour of the area.Very interesting history about there chateau being saved from being destroyed. Wonderful video!! Love from Vermont
I was so very sorry to hear of Pavlova’s passing. It’s always so sad to lose a furry friend - I too lost one of my dogs before Christmas too.....

So sorry for loss, such a gorgeous one.
It’s a definite YES for the cravat. A stylish accessory for any gentleman. 👍 ❤️
Hello lovely Vivienne and Simon, so sorry to hear about pavlova much love Lisa xx 😘 ❤️
Bonjour à vous, yesterday, and despite a beautiful sun here in Perigord, I was on my computer and I discovered your RUclips channel. To clarify my situation I would say that I'm a Frenchman of "old stock", of "old family" (I will not give a name) with, like any old family, "ramifications" in Germany, Denmark, Russia even. What I like in your videos is the "light in your eyes", the wonder, the freshness of the look that discovers beautiful things, old and beautiful, because there is beauty in the old. Those who built these castles also had the love of beauty and to see that this beauty amazes you is to prove that "beauty" remains timeless. Thank you for these smiling walks.
Dear Charles. Thank you for your lovely words and also for sharing a little morsel of your history. We have many friends who are of the “old families”, and I truly have a passion for the histories, the beauty, and the preservation of the extraordinary patrimoine of France. You are correct that I am constantly amazed and delighted by such riches, and am honoured to call France my home. Thank you for joining us! 💖
@@ChateauLoveMadame, Monsieur, France and the French people can and should be proud to have, on its lands and at home, ambassadors of the history of France, of its architecture, of its heritage. I thank you for this.
Lovely video! So sorry for the passing of your precious pup 😔 and the shutdown at Christmas....But you have started a New Year with what I know will be an outstanding year! God bless! ☮️💖
