Golden Jungle Tales - The Tawny Scrawny Lion

- Another long-lost Golden Book Video Classic rediscovered. This one is called "Golden Jungle Tales," even though the cover artwork titles the video as "Tawny Scrawny Lion's Jungle Tales." Unlike other Golden Book Videos, this one is actually "hosted" - in this case by a parrot and a monkey.
Part two features the timeless Little Golden Book classic "The Tawny Scrawny Lion." From Monday to Saturday, the Tawny Scrawny Lion chases animals through the jungle (including animals that don't live in the jungle, like camels and kangaroos!). Then one Sunday the animals cook up a scheme to make the jungle a quieter, happier place for all!

Brings back my childhood. 😮 this one and pokey the little puppy golden book videos. Never thought I'd see the videos again. ❤

I used to listen to the record of this one when i was around 5, when you hear the tawny scrawny lion growl its time to turn the page "aaaargggrrooooor". :]
I used to have a good number of these books as a kid, when the covers were cardboard instead of paper. Unfortunately, my mom sold them off at a garage sale years ago. I hope that someone (or many someones) is still enjoying those books.
(sigh) I loved this story as a kid. half the story was gone, but my favorite part was ALWAYS when the tawny lion was filled to the brim. I felt so happy for him! honestly, I think he had a rough time of it. And I'm STILL not sure if that rabbit is stupid or brilliant.
Somehow, this story makes me hungry (not for carrot stew, though) for a nice big meal. Bon appetit!
Yeah, it was on a record that came with one of those "Little Golen Books" with the gold spine. Nothing beats the audio on that version of this story. The audio on this video is very... mainstream sounding compared to it. It's a real shame that kids today don't have a lot of choice when it comes to this sort of thing anymore.
Sorry if the audio's unbalanced, but I think that bunny has the same voice actor/actress as the title character of "Little Toad to the Rescue."
Yeah, and Sooki in "The Saggy Baggy Elephant" had that same voice as well. In fact that voice was pretty common in these Golden Book Videos, such as Theodore Mouse, Peter Rabbit, and Pepper in the Pound Puppies story "The Puppy Who Couldn't Remember".
I am only guessing here but since that bear sounds like Mathman from Square one Tv, he was probably voiced by Jim Thurman.
Another that occurred to me, besides the bear being voiced by the late Jim Thurman, since he sounds like Mr. Glitch, the baby Kangaroo was probably voiced by Kath Soucie, since he or she sounds somewhat like Lil from Rugrats, the Camel was probably voiced by June Foray, since she sounds somewhat like the grandmother from Disney's Mulan and the Tawny Scrawny Lion was probably voiced by Brian Cummings, whom some of you might know as one of the announcers, from the 1980's version of Let's Make a Deal, since he sounds like a mix between Papa Bear from the 1980's Berenstain Bears Cartoons series and Hollywood from 2 stupid dogs.
I miss the original audio so much and the awesome starvation song he sang. :( His nerdy voice sounded so much better, too.
Maybe that's in the Disney audio version?

I believe it was. Some of these videos used quite a few Hanna-Barbera sound effects in them (other H-B sounds can be heard at 0:28, 6:06 and 6:39)
Is this lion a mutant? It seems like, where most lions would get fat on a carnivorous diet and thin on a vegetarian diet, it's the other way 'round for this one. Yeah, I know there's some fish in the stew, but it doesn't seem to be enough; the veggies and berries seem to be the only thing really filling the lion's belly.

@cimoirine He may have been more threatening as a tawny, scrawny, grumpy lion but still he was a malnurished push over back then. All the other animals could run away from him if they needed to thus he would never get a meal and natural selection would take its course. But no, that rabbit had to screw things up, now we have to deal with a lion (a carnivore) who's chubby and will likely preach to the others about not eating meat. Good greif.
