      Hi! Thank you for your comment, and fantastic question! It is totally up to you. Sometimes I leave them full and fluffy, other times I will add in shapes and darker values to mimic open spaces, leaves and branches. It’s fun to experiment and see what techniques work for you!

    Beautiful work! One thing I wish you had done is show how to deal with the tape allowing the paint to bleed into your white edge. I imagine you may have used some white gouache paint to cover up the bleed through? I am also very thankful that you have included some pages to download! Many do not do that unless it is for a price. I am going to subscribe now!

      Oh that is great suggestion! Sometimes the paint bleeds under no matter what, so annoying! A Magic Eraser sponge, if used carefully, can remove the paint! You just have to be careful you don't rub too hard and destroy the paper. Otherwise I will get a mat cut to the image and crop out the oops when I put it in a frame...lol!!!
      I appreciate the follow! I love to help out when I can, I wish I had more time to make more videos and resources!

      @@JessJidasArt Yes, those darn erasers will eat the paper. I don't trust them. lol I have never used gouache but have seen videos with it and it just might cover an oops. Seen other artist use it for touching up highlights on watercolor paintings. Yes, time to create art is hard to come by, we always put the creative stuff on the back burner. Life should be the other way round! Do fun stuff first and chores later! LOL what a mess we would have!

      @@laurfincher8137 I totally agree! Creativity first, lol! Gouache works okay, sometime you can still see through it tho...but its great for highlights and such! I think the higher quality the better too.

    Thank you. I followed along and it turned out pretty well. I will do it again for sure. What size paper are you using in this video? Also, you show a different finished piece that had subtle flowers on the left side. How did you get that effect? Perhaps, did you drop water on wet paint? Thanks again.

      Hi Kathy! I’m so glad you tried this, I would love to see your trees!
      It’s the same finished work but more close up so you can see the details. The “flowers” you are referring to are blooms created by sprinkling salt in the first layer of watercolor and waiting for it to dry! That’s my favorite technique to use ❤️

    Nice paint. Do you erase the pencil line after you paint with watercolor?

    • @JessJidasArt
      @JessJidasArt  Год назад

      Thank you! I try to draw VERY lightly so I can just barely see the pencil, because you can NOT erase the pencil after you paint over it! Great question!

    Love this! Question-on the reference piece you showed-for the textured look (I am thinking you used salt?) was that done on the first layer? Or did you add a final layer to do that?

      Hi! I have! It does define the outline of the trees more, but it also creates an outline, if that makes sense? I’ve only done it once, worth experimenting with it more!

    Great demo. One question I had is why you can draw all the trees in first because once you wet watercolor paper you can easily damage it if you sketch on top and each time you add more water it is even more delicate. I find this true even on high quality watercolor paper.

    • @JessJidasArt
      @JessJidasArt  3 года назад

      Great question! I usually draw very lightly before I paint. When the paper is fully dry you can draw over your sketch again, lightly, if you can't see it. Ive only had a problem if I draw on the paper when it is damp or wet!

    I like it a lot! Thanks for this step by step watercolor tutorial. Which paper brand do you use? Mine is a watercolor paper but will buckle for sure with so much water and it annoys me so much >.

    • @jessicajidas5533
      @jessicajidas5533 5 лет назад +1

      Using a block watercolor pad like this one from Arches helps a lot with buckling! www.amazon.com/Arches-Aquarelle-Watercolor-Block-press/dp/B0007XDHGE/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?keywords=watercolor+block&qid=1558458209&s=gateway&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1
      Also, making sure the paper is at least 140# helps a lot. I use Canson mixed media brand a lot as well. I hope that helps!
