    • @lorrainerimmelinwatercolor
      @lorrainerimmelinwatercolor  2 года назад

      Hi Susan, I'm so glad you enjoy my videos. As you can see in some of my videos I like to pre-plan my colors prior to starting a painting. Because I have used most of my palette colors for years I already have many favorite combinations of colors. Some compliment each other and others enhance each other. (By enhancing I mean I might use a variety of purple & blues to push & pull the colors towards blue or purple within a single painting) By doing colorful studies with paint it has given me the knowledge to combine colors to create beautiful washes. So get out all you paints and start seeing how they play together. I will be doing a video on this subject since many artists have asked similar questions about color choices. So keep watching! Thanks 😃

  • @josephineherrera8508
    @josephineherrera8508 3 года назад

    So far I have watched three of these. They are great. A very subtle, but important element on the color mixing part, that I noticed you do but don’t explain, is that in order to keep the value changes unified, you also add pigment to several places of that value, as you paint. I was impressed by that. But please explain the importance of doing it.

    • @lorrainerimmelinwatercolor
      @lorrainerimmelinwatercolor  3 года назад

      HI Josephine,
      Thank you very much!
      I appreciate your feedback and I re-watched the video to make sure I am giving you the correct information for your question, if not please let me know.
      As I paint each layer I make the value of the paint slightly darker. While I'm painting the negative shapes I will drop in several colors which I allow to mingle with the other colors (I don't mix them together just drop them in) This give me the beautiful mixtures of colors, not muddy colors. I also can increase the value of the layer I'm working on by doing this. But I am really concentrating on my variety of colors for that layer.
      I hope that clarifies my painting process.
      Thanks and happy painting to you
      Lorraine

    • @lorrainerimmelinwatercolor
      @lorrainerimmelinwatercolor  Год назад +1

      Hi Judy
      Great question!
      Yes. Once I've finished painting the different layers of leaves I will detail the individual leaves. Make sure you do not paint each leaf in a dark value because that will take away from the layering effect. Add only enough details so that the leaves had some definition & texture.
      Let me know if this helps you, Lorraine

    • @lorrainerimmelinwatercolor
      @lorrainerimmelinwatercolor  Год назад

      Great question. If you catch yourself painting an area that you didn't want to, immediately pick up the paint by pressing down on it with a paper towel or tissue. If it's already dry you can try lifting out the painted area either with a scrub brush or a magic eraser. Depending on the color you used and the quality of your paper this method should help you. Good luck, Lorraine

      No, on a larger painting I will do as many layers needed to achieve the effect I want. For an exercise or practice I recommend at least 4 layers to see the depth you can get. Great question!
