I need to leave a message here for Brianna!!! She is so precious! She has got great potential to be a great instructor on RUclips!!! How blessed you are to have such a wonderful child in your life!! She definitely gets her talents from you!! My mom started teaching me all different kinds of crafts at the age of 7 !! Our church and a diet club called T.O.P.S. Which she was often the leader of had bazaars ! I’m sure you heard of TOPS . It’s still around today. I’m so grateful that my mom got me started so young, like Brianna. The only thing I didn’t learn was drawing or painting which was actually my deepest desire! I’m finally ,at the age of 57 teaching myself watercolor! I’ve always used acrylic on rocks . I sold and gifted quite a bit. I’m learning that watercolor is so much more of a challenge than acrylics!! It is also so much more enjoyable and love the way the paints move with water!!! Water is the living organism in all of our watercolor paintings. God has truly blessed us!

Hi, I will share your kind words with her!
She is now 13 and so busy between her friends, school, sports and being a teenager that I don't get to spend much time with her :(
I know I was blessed to have her in the studio with me for many years.
She also had the opportunity to sell her artwork at a fundraiser I chaired for 8 years. My event was an art show that raised money to help Hospice. She participated 3 years in a row and sold out her art every year. She had a great time, earned money and learned about the importance of donating to charity.
Thanks for sharing you experiences with me. Keep painting & watching the paint flow!
      Lorraine

That was phenomenal to watch the forest get deeper and denser with each layer. Love how the canopy reveals itself through the negative painting technique. Thanks for sharing! 😊

As soon as I started watching you, I had to join your team. The way your forest continues to deepen is amazing!!!. There is something about negative space painting that I find so inspiring, there is so much that can be done with this method!!!. I need watercolor pencils, do you have any recommendations?, which do you use?. ❤

excellent demonstration, clearly described. I like the idea of doing it upside down-- can see how much easier it is to get into the spaces

Thanks so much Lorraine! That helped so much! I am an artist….but am just trying to learn watercolor! I have to say that there’s a pretty steep learning curve! It’s a difficult medium! Your video really showed how simply this process is. I will watch the other ones you mentioned. God bless you!

Thank you so much. I've been taking art classes for 6 years and still didn't understand negative painting. I still can't paint (no joke) but I can't wait till tomorrow to start on a new negative painting. For once I want to be proud of what I make. I will practice more though. Hugs from NC

You got this! To fully understand the negative painting process try several different simple shapes like circles and squares. Use colors you love! Have fun and please share your results 😊 Lorraine

Ok I get it. It is a 'learned technique' Give your brain some time to "see" the negative space. Start with the most simple shapes and do the exercises several times. Although it may seem boring, use the painting time to experiment with new colors & mixes. Make sure you understand your values [lights & darks] As you practice negative painting you build up other WC skills along the way. Then try the trees again. Let me know if this helps you...you can do it, Lorraine

I love your negative painting tutorials, I just watched three of them. I was wondering what tape you use to hold down your paper? Every time I use masking tape it seems to tear my paper. Just seeing if you have a tip for that. I also watched your video on tearing paper which was very helpful! Thank you again, you are an amazing artist!

    • @lorrainerimmelinwatercolor
      @lorrainerimmelinwatercolor  Год назад +1

      Hi Jessica,
I'm using inexpensive masking tape. Here's a few tips that may help you.
1- when pulling off the tape don't lift it up high as you pull. Keep it down close to the paper as you pull.
2- if needed use a blow dryer to loosen the glue on the tape.
3- place the tape on fabric, like your jeans or shirt. It will remove some of the stickiness of the tape.
4- sometimes it's the paper itself. I find that when I'm using a better quality paper it doesn't tear.
I hope that helps you, let me know if any tips work for you.
I'm so glad you enjoyed my videos, Lorraine
