You have probably been told this a hundred times but Ross Kemp started out as a tv soap actor and moved on to a tv series called "ultimate force" where he played a staff sergeant in the SAS. It was a really good show, lots of action and combat, in one episode they even did another embassy siege (no relation to the Iranian embassy siege in 1980) the show is well worth a watch, especially from someone like yourself.

The Taliban said exactly that back in 2001. That they'd sit tight and play the long game, which they did.

Ross Kemp: In Afghanistan Series was back in 2008 where he followed the Royal Anglians, the second series was Ross Kemp: Return to Afghanistan was back in 2009 when he follow the Royal Irish Regiment and the 2 Scott's, this Episode was 2011 Ross Kemp: Back On The Frontline where he follows the Royal Marines and US marines. If you look for Ross Kemp Afghanistan Series you should be able to find them 👍🏼

@@samuel10125 it wasn't that he didn't have anything positive to say, it was more that he was used to the meticulous approach of the British Forces when it came to clearing the path of IEDs and
In the previous series he was on mission with the Royal Marines and even though a path had a cleared one of the troops just stepped out the track slightly and was killed by an IED which shit him up. So when he joined the USMC and faced their no f**ks given approach to crossing open fields without clearing of IEDs he was bricking it 🤷🏼♂️
This episode is from Ross Kemp: Back On The Frontline (2011), which I think is available on Amazon Prime (or is it IMDBtv?) in the US. Ross Kemp Return to Afghanistan (2009) is also available there too.

In regards to the hearts and minds thing, I remember reading a book by a British soldier which had a picture of them patrolling without helmets. The idea was to humanise the British soldiers, with the helmets off, the locals would see more of their faces.
The real locals bought into the hearts and minds very early on because they are not in favor of the taliban.

This is not my story but a friend of mine is an ex commando. In Afghan they were manning a check point or some such and saw the same people day in day out crossing it. What the taliban would do is kidnap your whole family and force a remaining member to suicide bomb on the threat of killing their captive family. My friend saw a regular pass the checkpoint who then detonated his bomb and it turned out his whole family were held hostage by the taliban who then killed them all anyway. I guess that’s suicide bomb training of a sort.
My pal got shrapnel in his body and legs and even after recovery was not commando fit anymore and left the service.

45 Commando is the royal marines artic/mountain operation but they get to fight anywhere
Afghanistan is such a beautiful place aswel and its just gone back hundreds of year's.. only a revolution by the people can sort out the future and that will probably be much more devastating than what a 2 decade coalition tried to acheive. Really sad.. now all anyone can do is watch. I find that incredibly sad.

24 hours....didn't even take that long. They were in power before the coalition forces had left. Baffling really.
Most people do not actually understand what is going on over there because the media are not doing their job.
The Taliban are not afghan they are Pakistani and that is where their funds and also fighting force comes from. So when their numbers are depleted in battle they wait a few months and then put a few hundred over the border from Pakistan into the region.
The US defeated the taliban militarily but the moment they leave there numbers just flooded into the region.
All those weapons and training comes from Pakistan.

The later shows are interesting, but most of the action is in the earlier ones. The campaign moved away from firefights and towards IEDs.
The Taliban were defeated easily hence why the fighting is all in the earlier shows.

The Taliban is not from Afghanistan which as a culture does not have jihad. The real fighting force comes from Pakistan where they are trained in special Madrasa.
