    What is dementia?
‘Dementia’ describes a group of symptoms that include problems with memory, thinking or language, and changes in mood, emotions, perception and behaviour. Dementia is a progressive disease, which means symptoms may be relatively mild at first, but they get worse over time. There are many types of dementia but Alzheimer’s disease is the most common. The next most common is vascular dementia.

I am so sorry you and your mother are suffering. I don't think anyone can stop the illness. You may not be able to make her happy. All you can do is love her and try to get help for you both.

I'm afraid there isn't a way for things to go back to how they were. I'd strongly advise you to get in touch with Age UK (or a similar organisation if you aren't in the UK), as they'll give you both lots of information and support.
Try to involve family and friends if you can, and mention your situation to people around you . You'll be surprised how many of them have similar experiences, and how kind they are.
Take the long view. You don't have to be perfect all the time. You can only do your best. The reality is that sometimes you'll feel you could have done more, but that's OK.
