  • Ned "Nardo" Cabrera of Billings was diagnosed with frontal temporal dementia in August 2016 at the age of 53. The disease will eventually take his ability to walk, communicate and remember.
He's one of 20,000 people living with Alzheimer's or dementia in the state of Montana alone.

My husband was diagnosed st 53 6 years ago. But right from the start he was never aware he had anything wrong with him. I wish he could have talked about it but then again I guess it's better for him never realising he had anything wrong with him.. He is in a nursing home for the last 3 years no longer able to talk at all. I miss him every day.

I feel for you, my wife is in a similar condition but is at home. You are lucky you have the option of a nursing home. They cost upwards of $80K a year and for a married person both spouses must use retirement savings to pay for it. Only when assets are all gone will Medicaid step in. I will do anything to care for my wife but I will not become broke.

No one knows how long a person has to live on this earth. This is the time where you make family and friends important and be around people. Enjoy what you have now and every day you have. My daddy had Frontal Temporal Dementia (with Primary Progressive Aphasia), and we went through this journey with him. Even after he was diagnosed, he and my mom traveled and did lots of living, although his communication became difficult. Wrong words, "word salad", and then he just became less talkative until he finally stopped talking altogether. But as he became quieter, he also became serene. We might have been sad, but Daddy wasn't... he was always himself. Kind, helpful, funny, and even though silent, he was a man who loved life. I miss him every day. I wish Nardo and his lovely family the very best, and that they still have time to make those memories.

I know if it's hard but you do have loved ones. My husband had this. He stopped walking and could barely talk toward the end. Our son helped me take care of him. Then he collapsed and 911 had him taken off our mountains by helicopter to a huge hospital then second hospital then hospice. All within 3 months when he died. We were planning on bringing him home with home care. I miss him every day. He was a cop for 33 years and saved others .. You will be taken care of. God bless you and your family. My son and I stayed at hotels by each hospital to be by his side so he would not be alone. I told him over and over that I loved him. He knew myself and son before he died. Three days before he died he was clear as a bell and was worrying about costs of hospitals. I told him we had high end Medicare covering 80 percent and a second that picks up the other 20 and when it was done he was coming . He is home now in beautiful Tree of Life emerald vase. You will live for years. Enjoy every day. Thank you for sharing ❤️

@@dianewolfthal704 I never read the bible, but one thing for sure there are wars globally about religion, and that the next and last war over religion.
But, I have always believe in God, and I have heard from the people that experienced NDE.....
So the handful that I listened to tells me yes indeed, there is a God and Jesus is our savior, and the Holy Ghost/Spirit.
I never agreed with born again Christians, and still am apprehensive .
But, I guess if your a spiritual person you too must know any lie is a lie, any desire of another's property, Killing and all that, you know you have and still do commit sins, so I would wonder if you think that sinning everyday without repenting we won't be going straight to heaven
But, I to find it hard to believe that one and commit a gross felony consciously aware of it plans it, and repeats it.
So does he kill, repent than kill.again and repents without any remorse, but if he states his LOVE TK GOD AND ASKES HIS FORGIVENESS IN THE NAME OF JESUS.

When you find it difficult in the afternoon from 4pm onwards, it is because you 'sundowning'. That's how it's called and it is normal in Dementia. So sorry to see the generation getting younger and younger and descovering they have a form of Dementia and it's about to get worse over the coming years. I ve worked with Dementia patients for over 8 years now and it's so sad, we can't fully comprehend how those people feel. The first thing they lose it is the present and go back in time. Remember when say something that it isn't real to you, it is real to them and that's why it is important that we understand and live in their reality instead to bringing them into ours . Trying to bring them into reality and contradict what they really believe, it is a trigger to theyr behaviour of concern and what that means, is they can get frustrated, upset, crying or even violent both verbal and physical. I do have a passion working in Dementia sector and helping people to live well with Dementia, because it is possible!

She went from this sweet kind never cursed lady to cussing like a sailer, name calling and keeping her care facility up all night. I was called in many times to try to calm her, it was gut wrenching to see her go through it. Even when decided that she didn't want to wear clothing. Sigh..
But at least she had no idea that she was suffering with it, she would have been mortified.
      I miss her so....

Hello, I would like to ask you to try something. Nardo, you mentioned when late afternoon and evening arrives your condition deteriorates. Choose a meditation tune. Something soothing to you. Flutes, harp, instrumental music, no lyrics. Have your wife and children make audio biographies of the memories with you. Start listening to your recordings before the onset arrvives. This will exercise your mind and help retain precious memories. Steer away from negitive anticipation of your approaching onset time.
Since we are creatures of habbit
Our minds strart to store the times and negitivity of how we think and feel each day. Soon the body follows and every evening time becomes a Panic attack, and drains your energy. Create a variety of memory jarring projects. Becoming a clock watcher is your nemesis. Your in my prayers Nardo, and I hope this helps calm you when needed. Peace to you and your family my brother......

Your family needs to read about dementia and how it affects you. It will be easier for you so that you dont feel frustrated, uncomfortable and embarrassed. You need their love, understanding and support. I know its scary and you might be afraid, thats normal but know to live in the moment and enjoy life! You have time to put things in order, talk to your family about your health care. You are not a burden. Stress also isnt good for your health. My grandmother had dementia and I see signs for the past two years for myself but I have not got tested yet. But If i do, at 48, i will accept it, acknowledge it. I am not afraid to express if I cant remember something or a word. I have a spouse that doesnt mind repeating! I wish you well 🌹

I got a brain injury 13 years ago and it's tough - I'm so sick of trying to explain and being made to argue year after year that I am telling the truth: but they don't believe me: I have to get doctors to write it all as proof but the docs don't see/know really what I'm struggling with and are ignoring my serious physical injuries. And I read that due to my brain injury I've got a much higher chance of suffering from dementia as I get older, I'm alone & terrified because already I'm not getting the help I need and daily life is a constant struggle, ALREADY...

All good and great for protein and overall health!!! For dementia/ autism/ Alzheimers which are based on aluminum in brain and weakened immune from all other poison ( air-- nonstop nanoparticles of aluminum, barium, strontium, biologicals, fungals etc. Water-- fluoride chemicals ,chlorine, pharmakia witchcraft residues. And of course all foods with GMO, pesticides/ Roundup which actually was evilly produced to be one molecule off of glutamine which is trio protein the brain needs and will grab onto the Roundup poison instead and bind effective to the aluminum!! And all other food chemicals/ additives and of course baby parts put in for taste-- also put into the vaccines with more aluminum and Mercury etc for good measure!!! It is an all out agenda of evil!!) So lauricidin, chlorella, spirulina, silica ( organic food grade diatamaceous earth is best for detox) , bentonite clay, magnesium, sulfer, cilantro.
When I tell folks until they can get all clean, China free items( healthranger only one I can find meets criteria for almost all above, global healing center for nascent iodine and selenium!!) A person should use pink Himalayan salts 1/4 tsp with 1/4 tsp baking soda in one cup distilled water 1-3 times daily!! Amazing what just that will do and help.
Next get the silica, nascent iodine, lauricidin, chlorella/ spirulina, magnesium and sulfur and go cat go!!! I was brought out of 3 month pharmekia dementia induced stupor with just the salt and baking soda-- still couldn't drive or talk much / had lost 50 pounds( of which 30 was pure muscle from climbing trees for living) and the other items got me back to life ( oh and trace minerals a must --- none of our organic or even home grown food has all 90 minerals anymore since all soil/ plants are stripped from external poisoning. I went from healthranger to guardian of Eden jutrian gold!!!
Do not worship the creation but only the Creator-- ABBA says HIS people perish from lack of knowledge and mostly the churches are corruptly married to the enemy thru witchcraft of science/ rebellion/ pride/ and lack of repentance!!!
Hope this helps in your journey for yourself and heartfelt courage to assist others!! Cowards are first on list of no entrance to new Jerusalem, so be encouraged to speak HIS TRUTH AND TEACH ALL HIS COMMANDMENTS/ WAYS!!!

We hear most times people would say live n enjoy life after diagnose of a terminal disease. Its nice to hear it but living n enjoying life and caring for others while healthy is best.
Happiness is a journey...well and unwell. God Bless Nardo n Family.

    I'm only 32 and I think I have FTD dementia......can anyone help?
And I think it might have been undiagnosed for a long time....
I might have approached a serious stage of the disease....things might have progressed rapidly last two years and I became worried when alarming signs appeared this year.....I'm starting to have serious problems with my memory,it's like I can hardly remember memories from my past.....my short term memory feels much weaker and significantly declined too,a lot of my vocabulary seems to be gone and I have trouble constructing sentences in my mind.....
I always felt like I was a pretty creative writer/person not professional though but now it seems like I can't think of anything anymore like my mind has lost all its depth and creativity and nuance and abstraction....it's like my mind is just a tight ball of emptiness, like it doesn't even know itself anymore, like it doesn't even know what it doesn't even know.
And there are all these weird stuff.....like a serious loss in sex drive in the last 2 years......like I had no attraction to the opposite sex.....and people just seem like people to me.....it's like I have no thoughts about anyone,no biases no prejudice no preferences no racism or anything that people might think of when they see all kinds of people on the street.......I have no preferences and no idea what I want when I am looking at food and drinks in a shop......and I lost alot of my higher cognitive function......I love reading I used to read novels like I know this much is true by Wally lamb.....tomcat in love by tim o Brien....a beautiful mind.....wicked the life and times.....etc etc.....but something is seriously wrong.....my mind struggles to hold 2 or 3 sentences now and grasp the meaning.....And top it off...I suffered from severe depression for more than 10 years in my life and binge ate alot what they said were symptoms of FTD......
    Sigh....can anyone help me?
I literally might be dieing from dementia and here I am desperately trying to convince the doctors......they say a ftd diagnosis usually take years.....I might be dead then.....I don't even know

Lovely family. So sad. Are there so many younger people getting it now because there is something in the atmosphere, something in our food or in our homes or lifestyles, as in modern living as such, that we aren’t aware of that is causing the amount of younger onset cases or is it that we are just now much more aware of what it is, medicine has advanced, diagnosing is easier, whereas maybe 60 or70 years ago we would maybe just think people had a mental health issue or something similar and not have a true diagnosis. I have seen cases in their 30s and 40s too, and it is just so incredibly cruel.

Intermittent fasting. Let the body repair itself. Go 48 to 72 hours without any food or calories to let Autophagy kick on so the brain can do repairs. Nobody ever suggests this and hence, all of these illnesses continue. Autophagy does many wonderful things. Give it a try for a few months and see what difference it makes. Install the "LIFE" app on your phone and use that to track when Autophagy kicks on and try to stay in that mode for as long as possible up to 72 hours.
