The great balladeer has indeed returned to dust at age 84. Bob Dylan said it best, that when you hear a Gordon Lightfoot song, you never want it to end. Goodbye old friend and thank you for the many songs that will remain in our hearts forever!
Another music great gone to be with the choirs of angels! I hope he truly realized how much love and beauty his music graced us with. There will never be anyone like him. Rest in peace, and thank you for all you gave us. ❤🎶
I hope so too. He wasn't just another artist. His soul was special.
Ditto ❤
Aye. Beautiful, beyond words #RIP #LEGEND
RIP Gordon Lightfoot You Will. Be Missed & Not Forgotten Thanks Man!!!!
I heard today that Gordon Lightfoot passed away yesterday. Each of his songs take me to a different time and place in life.
RIP Mr. Lightfoot, thank you for a lifetime of music and memories.
No words can describe the joy in my heart ...to listen to yet another fine tune by Gordon Lightfoot.
Like an old friend ...his music has been with me throughout my life. And it shall be there when I too ...
"Return Into Dust" ...thanks again ..."Old Friend" ...
This May Day’s a hard day, 5/1/2023 the day the music died in Canada.
As Gordon Lightfoot returns to dust, a better songwriter the world may never know again.
My condolences to his family and all my Canadian neighbors across the way. 🇨🇦
May his legend live on.
As a proud Canadian who loved Gordie his music will never die. Neither will any of our Canadian music legends like the incomparable Leonard Cohen.
BRILLIANT ❣️ Both the song and the man, Gordon Lightfoot! (In fact every song proves Gordon is a musical genius.)
Such a great song. R.I.P. Gordon and thanks for all of the music over the many years.
Thank you Gord, a beautiful poetic, melodic genius songwriter.
I saw Gordon's first album on a turntable at a party in Plattsburgh, NY in 1966. I said, "Who's this?" I've been finding out ever since. What a fine journey it's been.
I found this to be a wonderful, really poignant piece of retrospection by a guy who clearly knew that he was much closer to the end of the journey than he was to the beginning. Rest in peace, Gordon, and we thank you.
So sad to hear of your passing we thank you so much for all the years of beautiful music and memories you have shared with all of us. May you rest in peace always and may your family have the memories that they do for all of these years I having someone like you for their father husband, uncle friend, God bless your family.God bless your 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🕊️🫶🌹🙏soul, and may you rest in peace always🖤💔🎹🙏
This song really rings true now for me. I love this man's music, and extension his soul... His music has travelled with me from my first love in 1972... to its return in 2022 ... My H.S. BGF moved away as teens and we reconnected as late life friends last year only to find out she is severely vax injured ... And after decades of separation that initial common thread was of the music of Gordon remains. I was able to help my friend by connecting her to Doc Trozzi and others and now has a shot of living yet a bit longer despite the numerous issues she has recently acquired due to the you know what... We still love our Gordon music together ... and are best friends once again during the autumn of our lives ... Our lives always have and remain hanging by a thread... I know how I have been blessed ...
Rest easy 😢 we will miss you Gordon Lightfoot😢 thanks for the memories

I just bought and watched his documentary . He's amazing. True legend. Still got it!
Such a great songwriter and singer. I'm probably one of the youngest fans he has but good music has no age. I was fortunate to be able to meet Gordon after one of his concerts years ago. What a humble and genuine man. He will forever be one of my all time favorites.
@Chris Manzi That's awesome!
May 16, 2023, Just learned tonight that Gordon Lightfoot has completed his earthly 🌎 journey. May he RIP and sing in heaven's choir with other greats who have gone before. ❤.
I love Mr. Lightfoot. You've been my best friend, a brother, a father and a mentor. When I need someone to talk to, an opinion or a star to set my moral compass to, I always turn to you. Thank you for all your songs, your experiences, your stories and your advice. I hope the coming new year brings you health and prosperity. Be safe, be well and happy holidays!
What a song he chose for the last uploaded video and now it has come to pass within the last fifteen hours or so. He knew there wasn't much time left, hence the cancelling of shows. A humble man/really kind man he was known to be, who was not about the fame, his songs spanned several decades thus the music was intergenerational affecting, imprinting many all through years - it's generational impact on so many Canadian was no little thing.... such sweet music is timeless. He chose to stay in Canada, never saw a need to leave being from Orillia. He was quite grateful and pleased with this country and the fabric of it _[it's hardworking European background peoples who built Canada]_ *not* like so ungrateful people today who want to claim colonialism and tear down this nation as though there is nothing good in it. Certainly he composed quite beautiful, melodious songs for many years, evocative song writer....his love of pure, simple, moving, emotion-stirring music him and his guitar that touched and touch so many which he shared with us, he helped to truly put on the map folk music of this land that has it's roots in Europe, thus a folk singer for many years doing what he did so eloquently, quite moving music to the spirit _[mind and heart/emotions],_ for it told the identity of this nation Canada, his music was imprinted on so many and the homage he paid to this nation, how much he sung about this nation, again his music being inter-generational, a great story teller, he who grew up in a small rail town - he loved trains, he reminded us of what made and makes our nation decent and how it came to be - the history of this nation built by Euro-Canadians, and again, never did he try and tear it down like so many ungrateful ones today. My most sincerest condolences and empathies to the family - such a gift to have such a father, husband, brother, cousin etc, the words of the Lord shall comfort you always. Sad it is was his time to go...that day will come for all of us sooner or later. May the true Scriptural Lord bless his family as He wills especially through this tough time. I pray may his spirit be with the choirs of the angels of heaven _[where it is never ending summer, no more a dream]_ especially the true Lord who desires us all to choose salvation in Him. To the dust ye have returned. Amen.
Hey Ladies and Gentlemen, a shout out to Gordon, the bandmates, current, and past years.
Our condolences to Gordon's family and whom you and your family's are a part of.
The legacy of the memories you have created over so many decades will not be forgotten. I hope and pray you will touch upon them often sharing with us, as I know the music plays on in my mind for my eternity. Thank you Gordon Lightfoot and family. ❤

Even in our darkest hours people keep on singin'. If you love Gordon as do I, look into David Mallett. I'd start with his "Inches and Miles" compilation.
This gem will soon gather steam, and become a classic down thru the coming years!!! Thanks for this magic, and good health to you.
Another gem Gordon! Saw you some years ago in Visalia Ca., just a couple months before Terry passed. Then a year or so later, I got to chat with you after a show in Modesto.
We talked about your 1948 D-18.
I feel it was a blessing to be able to see your shows, as I am a long time fan. I play many of your tunes on my own Martin.
Thank You for the music!
I never stopped having chills all the way through this. Cheers, good man, be well and carry on.
you-be-chillin'! chillin'!~
legends never die, they are remembered forever, and you too, shall live forever.
RIP May your beautiful melodies echo for eternity.
Film is in his house and that's his canoe he always went to northland camping in. Even Edmund Fitzgerald paper. Video was as touching as the song.
The canoe was donated to the Canadian Canoe Museum in Peterborough a few years ago. There is a video or two of it being donated and about the canoe if you search. The video is actually an animation programs CGI images, not a real place. Cool to see though.
Goodbye my friend, wish I got to see you perform live! We are all part of the cosmic dust and glad we got to hear all your soulful words on this journey called life. Time today reflecting on your awesome talents. RIP.
Excellent , reminds me of the Lightfoot songs of not so distant past . This is what we need . 🇨🇦❄️🍁🛳☕️✨

What a Beautiful Gift & Multi National Treasure !!
Hello from Detroit Michigan USA
Tonight I introduced a dear young friend to your music. I played “Your Love’s Return” for her, and she fell in love your music in one short song just as I did in 1971 as a 13 year old. I’m sending her my playlists of your wonderful music and this video tomorrow. You have a brand new fan. Cheers.
Look up “open thy lattice my love “ it’s the poem by Steven Foster that this song is derived from. He wrote it for the woman who married his brother and broke his heart. I live near his grave site in Pittsburgh pa and can still hear the “bells in the steeple are ringing”every morning at 6am
Dan Salmon many thanks for the info about Stephen Foster and his song. I found it and listened to it a couple of times. I know that Lightfoot has said that Foster was a big influence on his songwriting. After listening to the Foster piece I feel that Gord out-Fostered Foster with “Your Love’s Return”. Having grown up singing Foster songs at home I feel qualified to say this. I do envy you listening to the bells in the steeple ringing and singing especially with the Foster/Gord meaning to enhance it. Thanks again for sharing this new info with me. Cheers.
Thanks for the info. I apologize for not responding sooner. I got a nasty case of Covid and have never recovered. My apologies.😩
My bad Dan. I did respond. That’s what Covid does to your brain.😞
It's so good to hear fine music from a Canadian music legend. What a great song from Gordon Lightfoot. Cheers! ✌️🇨🇦
Gordon,,,Man I love this song , I got into your music in the early seventy's
Your lyrics and music has always been some of the best Thank you man.
So many of his songs have let in the time and continue to speak to your heart. This is one that seems to carry all the weight of time and speaks directly to your soul. Beyond time, so powerful, eloquent and beautiful, it affects me so...
:( farewell Mr Lighfoot... thank you for filling our lives with these nostolgic melodies and amazing vocals... rest in peace.
Such a beautiful song
Yes.
Hello, fellow Lightfoot fans. What a cool video to accompany this bittersweet song! It plays like a thoughtful parting gift to me, and I'm sure I'm not alone.
I've been playing live music now for 25+ years in bars and wineries all over Long Island. I saw Gordon perform over 15 times, and had the pleasure of meeting him "backstage" on 4 occasions. Each time, I wanted to give him a copy of an homage I wrote to him, but didn't want to act like the typical starstruck music guy. I did have the nerve, though, to ask him to pose for pictures and sign my guitar, which he was more than happy to do. Granted, I'm only a small-time performer, but I've carried that signature everywhere I've played for a long time now. It's the only name I would ever allow on my guitar.
Here is a link to the song I wrote in his style. I'm not pushing it off on you...just thought you might enjoy seeing a guy born in the early 70's who has totally been influenced by the great Gordon Lightfoot. See if you can tell what song of his I modeled it after.

I'm so sad I will never see him perform again. My last concert was in Kingston, NY in July 2022. It was the first time my wife and I brought our 8-year old son. I'm so glad we did. As he performed, I knew it would be the last time I would ever hear him play live.
Great song from an album full of great songs! His voice has changed over time, but he’s still got it. He’s great!
The lyrics are compelling. The video is sweet. This has been time well spent. Thank you.

Gordon on Gords Gold. Minstrel of the Dawn sheet music: "Use the thumb and finger "Travis style". If you cant do that, try a flatpick. If you cant do that, get a job. G.L." haha I learned to play all the guitar parts and pedal steel on Gords Gold and Gords Gold 2. Thanks Gord. Solid. My hero
Missed but not forgotten. RIP Gordon.
Definitely my favorite song from the new album. A lyrical masterpiece!
This reminds me of my buddy Jack. Took me in as a lost teenager. He was a lot older than me. Sure done a lot for me.
