    I expect this mower will last several seasons with decent care. ruclips.net/user/postUgkx1VWTrayKBdCKAjzAcZ_Eg4dhHTae3LkN also recommend Also, I ran across the problem with it not starting the 2nd time I used it. There is a safety switch which is pushed in by the chute or mulching piece being attached to the deck. I took the cover off and it wouldn't start. Put it back on, no problem. It takes only a minute with 2 easily accessible wingnuts and no tools. This mower starts up first crank each time and it is a joy to use. It also mows in reverse by putting the key to the reverse area after starting and pushing in the triangular button. It will stay in reverse mode until you turn it off. All in all, for my homeowner needs, I really like this mower-and at 70 bucks a cut here in Miami, it's already more than 1/3 paid for itself in a month.

      @@michaelcody3829 only a few things it could be. One is a loose connection. The other is the starter, and the other is the starter switch. If shorting out the solenoid works, then you starter is good. I'd try replacing the switch. Here's a link for the S240 switch. amzn.to/49778BG

    I've been troubleshooting this issue all day. Should have checked the control voltage first on the solenoid. I was getting 12VDC on the smaller wires on top of the solenoid and no bueno. So that told me it was definitely the solenoid. Your video helped, but might want to put checking the voltage on the control side of the solenoid to make sure it reads 12VDC when you turn the key. Then I tried jumping the power on the solenoid to verify I do get a good start to make 100% sure that's my only problem. Thanks for your video!

    Would you have any idea why a X310 would crank over without turning the key. I pulled it out of storage, put the battery in and attach the terminals. It started to crank without even turning the key on.

    • @PirateStu
      @PirateStu  2 года назад +2

      It could be a shorted solenoid, or a shorted switch. Try disconnecting the plug on the back of the ignition switch. If it still tries to start, it's probably the solenoid. If it doesn't, then you've probably got a bad switch.

    • @Tom-uf2um
      @Tom-uf2um 2 года назад +1

      @@PirateStu Thank you. I did pull the plug, cleaned the terminals and it acted like it was going to be okay. After it started I turned it off and the starter continued to run. Bad switch, as you suggested, is probably the issue.

    • @Tom-uf2um
      @Tom-uf2um Год назад +2

      @@PirateStu well, I installed a new ignition switch and solenoid. That worked one time and when I turned it off the starter Continued to run. How does the starter continue to run with the ignition switch plug pulled? I must have a short in a wire somewhere but I find that hard to believe because the mower only has 81 total hours. *UPDATE* it is a corroded fuel/starter relay. Man I hate electrical issues.

    Does it matter the placement of the two leads? Or can the lead that goes to the starter be screwed in on the top, and the one for the battery on the bottom? I'm asking because we may have switched the placement. it does crank but it just won't start the engine.

    • @PirateStu
      @PirateStu  3 года назад

      Not 100% sure, but I think it does. If reversed, your starter could run backwards, which means your motor is going backwards, and it won't work right that way.

      I've probably had it for 4 years. It handles hills pretty well and I think it would make it up the one in your video. I'd recommend checking the "Drive" belt. It may be old and a little stretched out. This is not the mower deck belt. The drive belt comes directly off the bottom of the mower and runs through a couple of drive engagement pulleys, and then to the top of the transmission.
