I always imagine it's mad in the beginning but hopeful he can plead his way back into the relationship, then the 2nd half is the sad acceptance of the situation.
Pattie Boyd has given us three phenomenal songs "Something", "Layla" and "Wonderful Tonight"! All three songs were written for her! One from George Harrison, and the others ones from Eric Clapton who was in love with her, but she was married to George at the time he wrote Layla for her (...you got me on my knees ...). Later on, George and Pattie divorced and Eric was the new man on her side
Just me - which was your favourite?I have just spent the morning listening to them all and my head is spinning! I think this might be one of the best. "It's worth being older now, to be young then". Best comment I ever read and so so true!
This has got to b the very BEST version of Layla I have ever heard and seen!! It was absolutely perfection!! Eric Clapton is the greatest guitar player in the history of rock music..a genius!!❤

Eric's eyes rolling in the back of his head on that solo. He went to a happy place for sure!!! I've seen them all and he played his guts out on this one!
Of the best Stratocaster tones I've heard. Those Laces pickups and mid boost Electronics with whatever amp and effects made a huge clear exciting sound. I can see why every strat player switched to Lace Sensors back then.
I believe the story is that Mark Knopfler turned up for this tour with Soldano amps and Eric liked them so much he had some built for himself by mid-late '88. Not sure if he had them by the time of this performance though. IMHO Claptons best live tone is his Lace Strats through the Soldanos.
Out the billion different solos he’s done live for this song this solo is the best ! It’s utterly flawless !! Makes the guitar actually sing !!! My favourite solo ever ! Perfect 👌🏼
One of the most iconic rock songs/riffs/codas of the 20th century without a shadow of doubt. Layla... is the best rock album of Clapton's catalog in my opinion. The yearning, pining even, is so necessary and relatable.
As a guitarist I always LOL when Eric plays some of his chords - it appears as if he is giving us the finger! LOL! An AWESOME performance! Nathan East has been with him forever - as awesome bassist!
Layla was written for George Harrison's first wife Patti Boyd, who left Harrison for Clapton when he fell completely and totally in love with her, hence the tribute song. What a pleasure to watch this high profile group of performers play this song!!
Nice to see another great guitarist with EC...MK Amazing he just knows the finger placement without even looking...total genius. Proud to have been born in the same county as EC. That guitar is an extension of his body
I’m not going to repeat what many others have written about Clapton’s talent, BUT I will say that I really ❤ it when Ray Cooper is in a performance! His enthusiasm when he’s playing the drums 🥁 ALWAYS makes me smile 😊 Whether it’s when he’s in a concert such as this w/ Clapton, or the many w/ Elton John, he knocks himself out each time and gives it 100%! (Coop was in the EJ ‘Farewell’ concerts I went to 2 X’s in ‘22 and, in spite of his ‘advancing’ age, he still has what it takes - just like Elton imo!)
This was Clapton a year or so after getting sober after playing for the last 30 years or so under the influence of drugs and alcohol to the point where he couldnt do basic things like have sex or play guitar sober and you have him play this sick ass solo from the top. Amazing
it’s crazy how Eric Clapton had been drunk since the 60 up until the 90s but still achieving so much in music career. Basically he was drunk the whole time for most of his life.
I'm speechless, Elton John, Mark Knopfler and Phil Collins SUPPORTING Clapton!
Unreal, that's like the Avengers of British Music
Haha, The Avengers! Legends all of them.
I was literally that surprised too , imagine to be there bro 🙌
Eric at his best 4sure
Than Clapton is Steve Rogers and Elton John like Tony Stark
The Avengers wish they were these guys
Eric Clapton - guitar / vocals
Mark Knopfler - guitar / vocals
Elton John - keyboards / vocals
Alan Clark - keyboards / vocals
Nathan East - bass
Steve Ferrone - drums
Phil Collins - drums
Ray Cooper - Percussion
Katie Kissoon - backing vocals
Tessa Niles - backing vocals
Absolutely crazy to see this combo of musicians
Saw this lineup minus Knopfler, Elton, and Phil in Dallas in the mid 90's, and they were brilliant!
imagine calling this lineup "Eric Clapton"
No shit? Wow that’s some epic stuff right there!
i learned something today. thanks
Mark must have been like "Damn, he knows all the chords!"
@Puka dog Like "Guitar George"
george you mean!
Yeah i found them quite fancy
'Today he's gonna make it cry, make it sing!'
Mark is playing most of them ^^
"How cool are you?
Mark Knopfler plays rhytm for me"
And it goes both ways and I love them for that.
Mark actually plays the lead guitar throughout the first part. Just casually fingerpicking the solo. What a legend.
5 days later Clapton plays rythm for dire straits😂
This is the happiest "sad" song about unrequited love that I have ever seen.
The pain is in those bends my man
I always imagine it's mad in the beginning but hopeful he can plead his way back into the relationship, then the 2nd half is the sad acceptance of the situation.

In this version he had to catch a train....

Holy mother of god! Every Layla is unique and this one's just that for it's party vibe. Great folks on stage.🙏💕

Mark just casually fingerpicking the solo and it's as clear as a pick.
That was so impressive

These Prince’s Trust concerts were brilliant - what a lineup - you’d never get such brilliant musicians on stage together now sadly 😔
That's what they said in '69.

There aren't any brilliant musicians nowadays.
I try to watch all the ones that have been done. I really love a performance with Eric Clapton and Tina Turner singing 'Tearing Us Apart.'

He used Award-Session SG75 amps here, same as for the August album.
I love Eric and Mark's guitar harmonies around 5:20 onwards, I think Eric did too judging from his smile.
The heaven!
The energy on that stage is unreal especially during the solo when you see mark knopfler jumping up and down
