Darwin="10 extra calories, so, I'd say it's a pretty good dinner myself". Me= looks down at entire large pizza I just ate all by myself...*feels shame*
Thanks! This is such a great x-section of your days, your trek - - we at home love to see this, and the gear / techniques that keep you at home on the trail. Keep on keeping on! The Bowl, the water, the 'stop', the snake, the not-getting-blown-over ... done up to dinner; catching more tomorrow! - Thanks. /paul/
Love your videos man! You’ve inspired this Aussie hiker to start planning a future thru hike in the big US of A! 🙏🏻 love your style.... so appreciate your efforts in documenting your journey.
Thanks, Darwin. I just discovered your PCT hikes last week and can't tell you how much I've enjoyed them. Quality and content always something to look forward to. Congrats on Kennedy Meadows! Ed.
I try to imagine what it is like to walk 25 to 30 miles a day in such moutainous and difficult terrain. At the age of 66, with a pace-maker, it takes me all day to go ten miles on fairly even terrain........ah, to be young again. Walk on, love your videos, Darwin.
Just to say - loving this series, the pacing, the commentary, photography, information and abundance of good spirit that you're encountering along the way! Been following from the start and will be there at the end, good luck and safe walking in the sierra! Best wishes from Vancouver :)
Way to go, 700! Thank for the video and the inspiration. I like that you share the views, the local wildflowers, the local wildlife and your trail experiences. It's appreciated.
Thanks Darwin wonderful video. You might be happy to hear the Columbia Gorge section of the PCT opened today. It's been closed since last summer's fires there. Keep on truckin'.
I like seeing the camp and food prep. I've watched many videos that talk about what to do, but I also like to see the theory put into practice. Thank you for your videos and sharing your adventures
Congrats on 700 miles. Love your story. You are so awesome, high miles but you still take time to enjoy!! Looking forward to the Sierra's. Safe travels.
Cool video. thanks. Sealskinz waterproof socks are amazing. All the best properties of merino wool and 'goretex' (I put that in quotes because I'm not quite sure if they're exactly goretex, but they work that way). I recently wore a pair about two dozen days over three months in England and Scotland, aired them out at night, never washed them--never had to. They were never cozy warm, but they were never hot and they were never cold. They seem about as perfect a piece of gear as you could want. What I noticed first in Dorset in April in the rain and mud is that with regular smartwool socks my right foot would take about an hour to warm up in my sleeping bag, my left a bit longer. When I started wearing the Sealskinz my feet were never cold. I had a pair of the long ones, but I'd recommend getting the shorter length ones. They have a nice tight seal at the opening, so even if you dunk them little or no water is going to get inside.
Darwain, your videos are always so inspirational, hope the rest of your PCT goes well! Can’t wait for more videos. I just started doing some weekend backpacking and watching your videos always makes me want to plan my next trip!
I have watched a lot of videos and that is the first time I have heard of Grumpy Bears. It looks like an awesome place. I am shocked about the general store at Kennedy Meadows. It seemed like an iconic stop along the PCT.
I have a soft spot for Chimney Peak and Long Valley Campgrounds. They really are hidden gems. We could hike the Kern River and Plateau. As of yesterday Kennedy Meadows and above campgrounds are still safe from the active fire in the area.
Awesome videos, Darwin! Found them by coincidence and watched them in one go! I’m living vicariously through you ;). The AT has always been on my bucket list but the scenery of the PCT is breathtaking! Thanks for sharing your adventure with us!
im from scotland but i regularly follow the pct on instagram looking at posts etc, maybe 5 weeks ago i started following a girl and her sister walking it and its the same people at 10:37, so strange seeing them on here but obviously makes sense haha
Great video as always! Thank you for bringing us along with you! I want to thru hike one of the big trails, glad to find experience through your videos.
Watching you day hike the rim to rim in the grand canyon inspired me to do the same. Hiked north to south rim two days ago, June 12, in 10.5 hours with a peak temperature of 107 degrees. I'll be in California tomorrow and hoping to get a walk in permit for the JMT. Maybe I'll run into you on the trail. Hike on, Jack
These PCT videos are AWESOME and best you've done, and I've watched EVERY last video you've ever uploaded. I would like to buy this on DVD when your done!
Be careful out there...You are in my neck of the woods now...JMTish ! I'll be on the trail going the opposite direction on August 11th. Happy Hiking to you !
I wonder if you will drop weight on this trail, you are eating so well and oddly now I have a hankering for CousCous, only want it hot, LOL Welcome to the Gateway to the Sierras, the look is like a Hollywood movie, just magnificent. Wonderful music!
Really taste those 10 calories!! I just started watching your videos and I really like the way you lay it out. I haven't seen a lot of hikers do it like you!!
Really enjoying your hike along the PCT. You are preparing for snow , ice and cold temps as you hike along. That has to be nice plus you have a puffy jacket on as you tell us about everything. Here in Florida we are in the triple digits for the heat index with Super storms ( lighting and heavy wind thunder storms ) almost every day. Since it's hurricane season naturally there is Tropical storm talk for next week. As the realtors like to say , location , location , location in this case it really determines the weather. lol
Good to see your episode. Seems like a day late? I'm glad your health is good. Looks like you are ready for the Sierra. Happy trails. I'll be in Yellowstone by the time you post next week.
absolutely love these videos. im constantly on the look out for little tips and tricks as well as hiking etiquette, of which you seem to be well aware of.. might you find some time to mix them in???? your a beast man, good luck and keep on hammering
Darwin good to see ya back on the trail sir like Dixie ya got me in suspense always good to see the adventure happy hiking and keep on truckin love this stuff my daughter turns 16 in November and we are thru hiking the PCT hopefully start last week of February so keep these videos coming love it!
One thing that was missing on entrance to Kennedy Meadows was the 20 hikers clapping as you enter drive way, sorry about that, I couldn’t make it. Maybe this will help. 👏👏👏👏👏 👏👏👏👏👏 👏👏👏👏👏 👏👏👏👏👏 👏👏👏👏👏👏 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 👏👏👏👏 👏👏👏👏👏 👏
Hey, awesome that your st kennedy meadows. would be cool foe an update. when did you leave Camp? when did you arrive at Kennedy? what are yu averaging on your milage? great trekking.
I enjoy your videos and appreciate your insights. I haven't seen you mention using a compass while backpacking to supplement and work with maps. There's an old saying that you should never trust your life on a battery (phone, GPS…). Your thoughts on compasses would be appreciated. Do you carry a compass and if so, which one? Thank you.
Darwin, Love your videos. I've been doing some AT section hikes with my family, and I wanted to know what your favorite section of the AT was? I know this might be a little off topic from the PCT but the AT is a lot closer to me. Did some around the NOC and Smokey Mountain park last week. Thanks.
so, is there a new place for hikers to hang out at Kennedy Meadows, that being Grumpy Bears? I remember past years video's people arriving to cheers from other hikers, I guess at the General Store. You mentioned a change of ownership....
Congrats at 700 miles. You are probably past 800 by now. Sorry to hear about your sox. That may be a blessing because feet will sweat and get cold when wet. I find it best to bring 3 pair of wool sox and chabge them every 10 miles. Then dry out in camp each night.
I think Kennedy Meadows needs a 3D printer. They can shred the bottles or any recycling people pick up along local trails or roads. Then they can print a plate or a cup to decorate the class of that year. After completing the trail they can mail you the souvenir or keep it to shred for next year's batch.
Congrats on your 700 miles. Don't sweat the waterproof socks. Condensation will still make your feet wet, your socks won't breath well when your walking. As long as your moving you will be OK. Just make sure you can get them dry, and then get in dedicated socks for sleeping. I have spent lots of time in sub zero temps with waterproof footwear, and wet feet.
Hey Darwin, I know you're a big fan of cold soaking so I figured I'd ask you, have you ever thought of bringing Soylent as food? In the UK we have something called Huel which I've tried in the past as it is incredibly nutritionally packed and really is filling. I believe the US equivalent has 500 calories per 100 grams with all the same nutrition so actually beating out our version. Not to mention it takes up practically no space at all! Love you to see you take a go at it sometime in the future.
I like that you show what you eat, packing up, where you camp, town stuff...not all hiker show that stuff. Make it more personable ☺️
Amber Canaan he shows what it's really like on the trail. Love these videos
Me too. I thrive off that day to day stuff.
Josh Herod Outdoor Adventures Yes! Otherwise I might think that it’s all beautiful scenery and that’s it.
Agreed! I was thinking the same thing.
Darwin="10 extra calories, so, I'd say it's a pretty good dinner myself".

I STOP WATCHING YOUR VIDEOS FOR 6 MONTH AND YOU ARE AT 100,000 SUBSCRIBERS!!! CONGRATULATIONS! Hope this thru hike helps you evolve even more
Thanks, Darwin. I just discovered your PCT hikes last week and can't tell you how much I've enjoyed them. Quality and content always something to look forward to.

I love you Darwin, you make me so happy
Darwin, really enjoy your videos,so inspirational, calming, peaceful.Hope your hike thru the Sierras goes as smooth as the previous miles have been.
Yesterday went by really fast for me too! Drinking is like having a time machine...that's stuck on forward.
Love this area & yes, the 'amenities' in KM have changed over the years. Can't wait for the next episode!
Lots of bears by Bullfrog Lake near Kearsarge Pass... Everytime I have camped up there over the years we had a bear visit during the night.
I have a soft spot for Chimney Peak and Long Valley Campgrounds. They really are hidden gems. We could hike the Kern River and Plateau. As of yesterday Kennedy Meadows and above campgrounds are still safe from the active fire in the area.
I was clapping for you when you got to Kennedy Meadows! Congratulations! Love your videos. Stay safe!
Awesome videos, Darwin! Found them by coincidence and watched them in one go! I’m living vicariously through you ;). The AT has always been on my bucket list but the scenery of the PCT is breathtaking! Thanks for sharing your adventure with us!
congrats on the 100k sub man! you're one of the youtubers who inspired me to get out there to hike, camp and bike pack! thank you so much!
im from scotland but i regularly follow the pct on instagram looking at posts etc, maybe 5 weeks ago i started following a girl and her sister walking it and its the same people at 10:37, so strange seeing them on here but obviously makes sense haha
Just a brilliant series. Thank you for putting it together! Top work. Hope you have a good journey today wherever you are.
Great videos Darwin! Thanks for taking me along.
Great video as always! Thank you for bringing us along with you! I want to thru hike one of the big trails, glad to find experience through your videos.
Glad your shin seems to be a lot better. Had us worried for a little bit.
Thank you for your efforts on the trail with the camera and filming. Great videos! Greetings from Germany
Looking forward to your Sierra's vids. I have a friend who is in the John Muir Wilderness part of the PCT. His pics are spectacular.
Congrats on 100k subs dude!
Dang, you look a lot like Joseph Rutherford Walker! Awesome video!!!

another great video Darwin...enjoy the high country... peace
really enjoy your trek. Can't wait for next week
I’m enjoying your journey. Thank you for sharing.
Video was worth the wait!! You inspire us all to want to get into the outdoors I'm sure. Keep up the fantastic work!
Great video. Thanks for the gear details and some of the logistics involved. Enjoy the Sierras...
You know life is simple when a packet of soy sauce adds a "moment" to your meal.
Sierras are going to have some of the best views my man... enjoy and happy hiking be safe because the Sierras is way back country...
Really taste those 10 calories!! I just started watching your videos and I really like the way you lay it out. I haven't seen a lot of hikers do it like you!!
Good luck and be safe in the Sierras. A few hikers/climbers have already died in the past 6 weeks or so on/around Mt. Whitney.
Thanks for the updated info about KM. Its time to start some new traditions methinks...
Really enjoying your hike along the PCT. You are preparing for snow , ice and cold temps as you hike along. That has to be nice plus you have a puffy jacket on as you tell us about everything. I just backpacked that area.. I hope you stop at jordan hotsprings, that place is awesome, we spent a few days there. really worth it.
Thanks. Really enjoying your trip.
Good to see your episode. Seems like a day late? I'm glad your health is good. Looks like you are ready for the Sierra. Happy trails. I'll be in Yellowstone by the time you post next week.
Love the way you used the background music in these videos/ and the selection. Good job~
Congratulations on 100,000k+ subscribers!
One of the things I really enjoy about your videos is your music is quieter background, not equal to your speaking
Great videos, living vicariously through you, thank you
Congratulations on 700+ miles! I am looking forward to seeing the Sierras.
Surprised you didn’t film reaching the river, thought it would be such a refreshing sight to end the desert!
absolutely love these videos. im constantly on the look out for little tips and tricks as well as hiking etiquette, of which you seem to be well aware of.. might you find some time to mix them in???? your a beast man, good luck and keep on hammering
Darwin has a whole playlist of Q&A. Check it out.
Bishop and Mammoth two wonderful places!

Have you thought about doing the Florida Trail? I live in Central Florida and enjoy it a lot
Videos keeping getting more refined. Great job.
Great video! I like your style, very relaxing.
I bought waterproof socks but havent had a chance to try them out . Bought a waterproof beanie too.

Crazy how a 23 mile day is “dialing it back” for you... Then you still end up hiking 30 miles.
so, is there a new place for hikers to hang out at Kennedy Meadows, that being Grumpy Bears? I remember past years video's people arriving to cheers from other hikers, I guess at the General Store. You mentioned a change of ownership....
Congratulations on 100K!
Yo, when are you going to be around Whitney? I might be climbing it sometime July so it would be awesome if we meet up.
Crushing the miles! Great video man

100K subscribers any time now. Congrats.
What is that sun rag you are wearing under your hat? Looks like a very good idea.
It is called a "buff".

IF there is a lot of postholing (@ 12:32), then why would you not take UL snow shoes? What is the reasoning?

Just a heads up though, it's recommended that you add a extra salt
