Thank you for offering the free Walking Challenge, meal plans, and motivational recording! I love it! A couple of months ago, I started walking 20-30 minutes a few days a week and have increased it to 1-2 hrs a day. People are starting to notice the changes to my body. I ordered a weighted vest a few days ago and it will be here tomorrow. Can't wait! 😊

Protect your ankles, knees and hips. I'm 71. In my 30s I was jogging, running, walking and a lot of it was uphill. I started having a lot of pain in my knees and hips. Over the years I saw my friends getting knee and hip replacements. And taking a lot of drugs for their pains. So I learned somethings to share. The main thing is that I started taking shorter steps. In fact, when I was going drastically uphill, I made sure that I never stepped a rise more than 5 in and I kept my steps short. Unbelievably I found that I could hike uphill a greater distance and duration and my knees and hips were not being stressed. Eventually the leg pains diminished because I used aggressive vibrators whenever there was pain. Pain is inflammation that impinges on a nerve and when you move or use a vibrator it gets the blood flowing and reduces the inflammation. Naturally. Here I am 71. I've been ballroom dancing for 20 years, hiking but no longer run. I never take steps straight on. I turn sideways so that I'm not stressing out my knee as I go up them. I sometimes jog. I have no pain. I do have a cup of coffee every morning and take tumeric which is said to reduce inflammation.

@@glamupwithkatrina It's just about adding extra weight to burn more calories. People who are on the heavier side burn more calories than skinny people doing the same distance cuz their bodies need to work harder. You could add ankle weights too, same thing, but some people say they put more strain on the joints that way by weighing them down, so vest is the safer and more comfortable option. By adding that extra weight, you also help your bones to get stronger, just like any other weight-bearing exercises, weight lifting etc.

Me too, Debbie! I’m a certified health coach and have the same battle. I’ve been trying for three years to get the 30 pounds of menopause weight off. I’ve tried all kinds of workouts and different macros ratios. It’s very frustrating. I do love walking in addition to body weight exercises and light weight training along with a little bit of low intensity aerobics. I’m currently loving the carnivore diet since I’m sure I’ve neglected an adequate amount of protein most of my life. It’s definitely helped the joint pain. I’ll never give up because at least I feel better when I eat well and exercise, but it would be nice to feel like I look good, as well.

Not only carnivore. Any diet that helps eliminate the sugars, processed foods, processed meats and seed oils is good. Organic avocados, organic lemons, eggs, parsley, garlic and blueberries, cacao, butter are the foods that can help eliminate the sugars and processed foods, I think. The boost of energy when you stop the sugars after the 3 days withdrawal period is so great you would never want to revert!

Except for my hypertension and heart problems, I refuse medications , I will heal myself. I immediately started walking slowly til I got to 3.5-4 miles a day, change my diet to Whole Foods and lots of good protein, did intermittent fasting 6x a week. This was at the end of 2022, in 2023 , four months later my graves went on remission, I reversed my diabetes, and I didn't need a second knee injection for OA. I am currently working on getting my lungs to work properly again. Doctors said there's no cure but I will decide on that. God bless you all, stay healthy and say no to drugs😂

    Absolutely about the walking!!
One point I differ is this: if you take the calorie restriction/deficit to its logical conclusion...and you keep subtracting calories, increasing exercise-it's a trap. My experience as a 62 yo female blows my mind. I lost weight VERY slowing from september 2023 - Jan 2024, about 3-4 lbs a month. Eating whole foods, healthy fats, etc. I was in a "healthy" calorie deficit, strength training, about 100-120g of protein (goal weight 125). Stalled out til about late Feb. I then said this is NOT sustainable. I started eating much more healthy fat and calories than prior (about 1700 per day, my "maintenance" calories based on the research etc). Well--I dropped 10lbs in a month!! I think people are all different....and I feel soooo much better eating more. I am staying on top of my weight and how I feel, most importantly. Sleeping, walking etc....but I would urge people to not be married to the calorie deficit model bc we all have hormones, cycles of stress, etc...and it's not one size fits all. I'm 10 lbs from goal Love our bodies :)

If you vary what you're doing, you won't hit the plateau. Just my theory.

I’ve was a runner for the past 40 years until I was gradually sidelined by a deteriorating hip joint. I went from tracking on my Garmin 20,000-ish steps per day to about 2000 per day over a two year span. I was stuck. Running wasn’t just exercise for me; it was a tremendous joy. Finally, out of options, limping, and noticing signs of becoming “skinny-fat”, I had my left hip replaced two months ago. Now I’m back up to 10,000 or more steps, I’m in the weight room again, and I’m walking multiple times a day, -all pain free. I appreciate this video because you have confirmed what I know from experience works when it comes to maintaining muscle mass, strength, and agility. Most importantly, it’s a reminder that walking doesn’t have to be a lazy workout (I never considered walking “serious “ but just an afterthought). Now I’m learning to embrace it for all the benefits you describe, since I’m not sure if I’ll be running again at least in the short term ( though I still miss it!). Funny how life can make a person thankful for something previously taken for granted! Thanks!

One thing nobody seems to do is walk and pace between sets of lifting at the gym. I see everyone sitting/scrolling.
When I'm doing a 75-90 min full body workout, I walk/pace during every 2-3 min rest period. It's low intensity movement, so it doesn't affect my strength levels at all. But it adds THOUSANDS of steps to my daily total.
What I love about pacing back and forth between sets is that it keeps me dialed in/focused on every set that I do. When people scroll on their phone between sets, they're distracted.

I have times when I really can’t leave the house, so I bought a rebounder (mini trampoline). There are so many “walking” rebounder videos… and you don’t really even need a rebounder, you can walk in place… but the mini trampoline makes it more fun for me. I increased my daily steps from 5,000 to 8;500 and some days I do more if I can. My goal is 10,000 daily. I started on 4/9/24 and it is 4/28/24. I have lost nearly 2.5 inches off my waist. My goal is another 2.5 inches. For all the women who have young kids or other reasons that make leaving the house to go on long walks inconvenient, I highly recommend checking out these walking videos… even getting a rebounder. So many help benefits. In fact, I’d love it if you would do a video on rebounding. I’m 44 and I haven’t felt this good in a decade. Oh… and I also revised my added sugar/ultra processed foods. I think you made a great point! For years I just walked 3 miles everyday and expected to be in shape. But that doesn’t work alone to get in shape! You have to do weights as well. I started doing free weights workouts and squats just 30 minutes in addition to my walks. Now I see a difference!

I walk, run or ride my bike everyday. Sometimes only one but sometimes all 3. I feel a million times better when I do these. Also doing a lot of household chores including lifting heavy boxes and cleaning areas like the attic, the barn, etc that aren't part of regular household chores. Most are up & down stairs multiple times a day - and I also dance to the 80s (high school for me) while I'm doing the chores. There is no way that's not a good thing :) I feel soooo good afterwards and I sleep so much better. We also eat low-carb so that helps too. Thank you for all the information you give. I appreciate all of it!

I have ankle weights and wrist weights I wear cleaning all my floors and doing household chores at home. Definitely increases the burn. If you don’t have a weighted vest, you can simply put weight into a comfy backpack. Bags of beans or rice feel the most comfortable to me.

I used to walk at park every day but didn't do one day and never went back. Now i do walking exercises at home. I watched your video about walking and went to the park and spent an hour walking. It was so refreshing and I realized how much i missed walking outdoors. I've done 5 weekly walkings so far and i want to increase to at least 3 times a week. As my time is limited, i need to re configure my routines. I wear my weighted vest 3 times a week when I do marching on a spot. It is for my bone health and not for weight loss though. I asked for a fitbit for Christmas in 2021 and that was a game changer for me. Without knowing how much I burn, it is impossible to create a caloric deficit. Since i saw your walking pads review, I've been considering getting one. I also enjoy my rebounder. It gets me to cardio zone just by rebounding with my feet on it the entire time.

Great video. I turned 73 this past June but people say I look 50 and resemble Robert Redford. Actually had people stop in their tracks thinking it was him. I think it’s crazy. My beautiful wife of 19 and a half years will be 50 in a couple months and looks 30. I am 5’8” and currently weight 159. I have walked almost daily for over 40 years now. Have a Nordictrac treadmill that I have had since 2016 and it has almost 3000 miles on it. Getting ready to buy a new one. I still work and get up on week days at 330 and do at least an hour each day. I do change up my routine on the treadmill and have a good stationary bike. Not only does walking help me stay it shape it helps me mentally and keeps my diabetes levels down. I am not a runner as I ran track in high school and hate running but can walk all day and love it. Usually do at least 10,000 steps a day and that is on a bad day. Keep track of my steps my iPhone and Apple Watch Ultra. Also regularly log my food intake with MyFitnessPal. Love staying in shape. Thanks for the video.

    Treadmill vs walking outdoors.
    I know my wife.
I know how much we commit to something vs what goes by the wayside.
My wife kept insisting that she needs a treadmill.
Years ago when we were young, vibrant, full of energy and fresh,
her mom gave us her old exercise stationary bike.
For the first month my wife used it often.
After that it just sat there.
Months later I tossed it. She was tired of looking at it being in the way and so we tossed it.
So when she talked about getting a treadmill- I got her OUTSIDE in our beautiful neighborhood and surroundings and she loves those early morning walks.
    Its free.
It it isn't clunky or in the way.
And its always available for us when we open the front door.
It does so much more for our enthusiasm, mental health and coupled with our other routine exercises, it is phenomenol!

Thank you for this video. Great timing as just yesterday I was frustrated with how I plateaued despite walking even more briskly (I’m already a fast walker) investing in a mini stepper, increasing walking times, and upping frequencies. Found my weighted vest and did a 2.5 mile walk with it for my recovery after a strong cardio workout. Definitely helped! Can’t wait to see those results. It is 12 pounds so can’t go as far (don’t want to stress joints) but my goal is to keep shedding fat.
Found and subscribed to you a few weeks ago on your walking pad review; I work at a desk 8-9 hours a day and realized I can’t do a walking pad under my desk (it’s too much jostling around). So I find other creative ways to get steps in on top of just walking. Weather here doesn’t cooperate and changes often so it’s been challenging but learning new ways. I get in longer walks when I can and love breaking it up!
Already do weight training (calisthenics and free weights). I agree it’s key to so much and so often women are scared of lifting. Doesn’t have to be heavy. Will help with so many aspects. Just needs to be presented in a way that is reasonable and sustainable for them for consistency. I’ve learned too I can’t lift as heavy on my period and it’s just hormones; learned to not beat myself up.
Thanks again and love the advice you give.

Nice! I also find it hard to walk at a faster speed on my walking pad while I'm working! I cannot write nor can I type quickly while on the pad. I'll walk at maybe 1.0-1.5 and type slowly, but while I really need to get things done, I pause the pad altogether. During my 15M break, I try to up the speed for at least 5-10M and of course walk if there's a meeting, which is infrequent. It's challenging and takes effort every day

Also the latest longevity study found that the difference between sedentary and people who did this type of mega steps got on average 3.5 years extra of life. So doing f all you'll only die 3 years sooner. Best bet is to have as much sex as you can lol.

I do walk about 5-7mi a day. Every other day, I do 5mi with a strength/weigh lifting workout.
I definitely don't do it all at once. When my kids are playing, I walk around the backyard. When the kids are doing schoolwork, I walk around the living room. When my kids are getting ready for bed, I walk around the house. Then I take dedicated walks when I have time. When one kid does piano lessons, I walk with my other kid. And then switch. Get creative!
