I hope Haiti 🇭🇹 🙏 gets to the world cup again one day
Many probably won't know this but after the World Cup he went to a very modest team in Belgium and made there a huge impact as well. Even the defenders from the then great ANDERLECHT & CLUB BRUGES were frightened from him. He even helped this team win the Belgian Cup in 1979. Sad he left us so soon, great guy and footballer.
Yup..I saw him talked about his days in Belgium. Such a humble human being he was!
He was my club coach when I was a teen in Midland TX in the early 90s. So kind and encouraging. RIP MANNO 🌹

I'm 20 years old I'm Haitian I have not had the opportunity to see this team and this great player who made history against one of the greatest goalkeeper of the time. That "Goal"!! I saw it on that precious black and white small screen we had , barely hanging on the kitchen wall in PAP..Maaan!! All of a sudden, from nowhere: P.Vorbes, E.Sanon...and Big Bang comes alive in Haiti, right before my eyes . I was part of that Big Bang. That's when I knew how deep a Haitian I was...I was 10! Football was never the same after that in my life. There were sports..and then "Football"..

He scored twice in that world cup. He also scored one goal against Argentina. Haiti had no chance in that tournament we were in the group of death, the strongest team in Europe at the time Italy, along with the last Euro winner Poland, and the powerhouse that was Argentina. It was just an honor to play against them all.

Might be a simple mistake, but don't deny Poland was a great team. (In their golden era (1970-1986), Poland was up there among the best teams in the world, finishing 3rd at two World Cups and getting a gold medal at the 1972 Olympics.)

Cuba was the 1st Caribbean country to go to the World Cup because other countries in Concacaf withdrew. Haiti was the 1st to actually *qualify*.

apparently, haiti qualified for the 1974 world cup only after "defeating" trinidad and tobago 2-1 in haiti. that was the match in which TT were denied 5 goals by what can be described only as creative decisions by the referees who wanted only to make it safely home to their families. the referee and one of the linesmen were thereafter banned for life.
