Marinho, known as "The Blonde Witch" in Brazil, was definitely one of our greatest players of all time.
Marinho was a great storyteller, he summarized the legacy of Brazil, his superb defensive contribution, all the top players he played against at the pinnacle of his career at the 1974 World Cup. This was first tournament I watched from start to finish after the Pele absence hangover, and I witnessed many superstars (Marinho included) at their best, and most notably Johan Cruyff, incredible memories brought alive again by a great player and honourable man.

I'm proud to have met Marinho he was my coach for a while in El paso Texas at the university of texas at El Paso. He could still played well and had a great shot. We miss you Marinho

You are lucky to have met him. I was living in El Paso at the time. I saw him play in Los Angeles when he played for the national team against England in 1976 at the colosseum and later in 1979 when was playing with the Cosmos. I believe he was in El Paso in 1989 or 1990. One of the greatest.

O Brasil vivia a sua era de ouro, percebam o passe como era na medida, os lançamentos iam no peito do parceiro igual uma folha, os jogadores tinham a concentração e o olhar em direção ao gol e um amor a camisa sem igual.
Hoje vemos um monte de jogadores mimados que ficam dando aqueles passes moles, não sabem nem lançar uma bola direito e para arrematar vemos os europeus jogarem jogarem o nosso futebol daquela época hoje.

Tenho 66 anos e vivi no período da carreira de Marinho....sem dúvida o segundo maior lateral esquerdo do Brasil em todos os tempos, ficando atrás só de Nilton Santos....e em terceiro Marco Antônio...quarto Branco e em quinto Rodrigues Neto.

I didn’t know of Marinho’s prized status in Brazil, as a New York Cosmo, he was a disappointment in my opinion. His penchant for launching wayward shots, earned him the nickname “Mezzaninho”.
