Bobby absolutely loved Franz and that says everything for me. Arch rivals , yet best of friends - both the English and the Germans needed this going forward. It's never going to be easy to forget. Once when Bayern fired Rehagel a few games before the end of the season and he became the manager in 1993 and then in 1996 I think when they fired Trapattoni as far as I remember. That was also when they won the UEFA Cup against Bordeaux.
Franz Bechenbauer, a genious, a legend, and a hero. Above all, he was a gentleman, neve faught, never pretended injuries on the field. Played some of the most elegant football the world will ever know. He makes the new football players look like pretentios, lazy, and overnight fame seeker without half the skills Franz had. RIP legend.

Not only was he a great defender but he would score great goals as well.
An incredibly elegant, classy and smart player. I remember watching him more than any other German player at the time. The Kaiser they called him and I think he was the captain as well. He was a born leader on the field. And he didn’t play dirty or tackle opponents by fouling them the way they do now. He would take the ball away instead. A joy to watch him play.
