    The Crow was great. I was very happy with it. I'm waiting for The Beekeeper to go down in price.

    I had a slight issue with the crows audio unless I've missed something that they were trying to do with that.. maybe someone could explain...the voices on the dts track came from the rear for the first 20mins then from the front the rest of the movie? its odd that the US release doesn't include a bluray my uk steelbook has both 4k and bluray included.

    • @TheOriginalFuzz
      @TheOriginalFuzz  4 месяца назад +1

      I haven't listened to the audio on my surround system yet. When I watched it, I was just using my Beats headphones. So I can't really comment on any audio issues. Though I'll be curious to see if anyone else here has noticed that problem. As for the blu-ray not being included, yeah that seems to be something we're seeing Paramount do more and more of with their 4K releases in the U.S. (and other studios as well... The Beekeeper was the same way). I'm guessing it's to cut costs a bit. Thanks for watching!

      Beekeeper was great too havent seen the others. I was wondering if the audio was something g to do with the draven character being dead then the audio switched when he came back..the timing of the audio switch is around that time in the movie. It sound great on the surround it was just a little odd hearing people speaking behind me who are actually in front of me on the TV haha

      @@TheOriginalFuzz Speaking for myself, I fell in love with the soundtrack. It was dark and wholly embraced the trademark musical styles of the 90s.

      @@chadeldred3539 Oh yeah, that's definitely one thing that struck me as I was watching the new 4K -- just how damn good the soundtrack is. When I heard The Cure's "Burn" come on, I was stoked! (The Cure is one of my favorite bands) -- And I didn't even realize that song was from The Crow soundtrack, so it was a nice surprise.

      I didn’t like it at the time either. I felt the death of the actor created a hyped interest in the movie and I was sorely disappointed at the time. I have bought the ultra hd 4k disc to see if I still feel the same. Now I’m in my 50s I want to revisit it again and see if my views have changed.

      You, ARE NOT alone. I am almost 48 and I feel the exact same way you did about the Crow when you described it. I haven't seen it since either and have no intention of buying this 4k unless it's deeply discounted. But having said all that I have no problem with people who love and adore the movie either. You just can't count me among them.

    Couldn’t agree more with The Beekeeper. I seriously wish that could be “based on a true story lol.” Those damn scammers are pieces of shit! Like…go apply yourself to actually making money the right way. So wrong - but because of that this film “felt so good!” And it does look and sound great too!
    Very similar sediments on The Crow as you too. I did love the steelbook so I pre-ordered it as soon as I saw it.

    The Crow has a huge fan base and its hard to be critical of this movie without people getting defensive.when it came out I didn't get it either, maybe 10 years ago I enjoyed the rewatch. I have the Blu-ray waiting until it goes on sale Unless a boutique label gives it a the big box treatment. I'm ok with not having a Blu-ray too as long as the special features aren't digital only. I thought the Beekeeper was fun but probably a one and done for me passed on that one too. I'll probably regret that when it goes out of print that will be when I want to watch it again.

    Love The Crow! Glad the 4K restoration came out nice! I'll definitely have to get the 4K, but debating whether to wait on it or not considering I own the blu ray version already. Haven't heard of Rolling Thunder before, I'm gonna have to add it to my list. Same with Leviathan! By the way, a bit off topic, but I was wondering if you knew of any good Blu Ray or 4K version of the original Planet of the Apes films? I was having some trouble finding a good one, and wanted to get your opinion.

    • @TheOriginalFuzz
      @TheOriginalFuzz  4 месяца назад +1

      Well the original Planet of the Apes films (i.e. the first 5 from the late 60s/early 70s) have never been released on 4K, and it would appear even the blu-ray versions are now out of print. You'll probably have to take to the secondary market (eBay, etc.) to try and acquire a copy. I've been wanting to get my hands on this "Legacy Collection," which has all 5 films on blu-ray (here: www.amazon.com/Planet-Apes-Legacy-Collection-Blu-ray/dp/B005FHWWXQ). But it appears all the sets/collections have been discontinued, so I'm probably going to need to see if I can find a gently-used copy on eBay or something. Perhaps they are planning on a new release/reissue of all the Apes films once Kingdom comes out on 4K... maybe we'll get either an updated blu-ray set of the old films or, with any luck, maybe even 4K. I would definitely like to see 4K releases of all of these. Thanks for watching and chiming in!

    • @Shuxy
      @Shuxy 4 месяца назад +1

      @@TheOriginalFuzz Well, no wonder I had so much difficulty finding it! I can't believe there's no available high definition copies of the original Planet of the Apes currently available! Especially with the Planet of the Apes reboot films. That is just a total missed opportunity for the studio to make money! Hopefully they come out with it following the Dawn release, because that's probably the only way I'll get it. But thank you for responding and letting me know! Now I just have to play the waiting game.

As for Rolling Thunder, I did actually like the film (especially the more I chew on it)... it was just a little different than what I was expecting. Whoa, you’re docking a movie’s 4K release score because of no slipcase?

    • @TheOriginalFuzz
      @TheOriginalFuzz  4 месяца назад

      Yep. Collectible packaging is not necessarily a huge factor in my scoring, but it just depends on the release. If there's either really nice packaging or no slipcover/collectible packaging at all, then it does factor in -- because many collectors appreciate collectible packaging (and even expect at least a slipcover if they're buying a title when it is first released).

    So, I came here for the Crow. I really enjoyed the Beekeeper and love Leviathan, but have been eagerly awaiting your 4k take on the Crow. I own this movie on VHS and DVD and just recently on blu ray. I was excited for this 4k release, but after researching and watching numerous review videos and comparison videos I felt like most people were watching this with blinders on. I think everyone wanted to love this 4k more for the movie then the transfer itself. Don't get me wrong, I love grain. I loved how the original Predator turned out, but when comparing this 4k to blu ray, I honestly thought the blu ray looked better. It still had great textures and kept a nice layer of grain. The 4k is much sharper with great textures, but it's such a dark movie I felt the grain was a bit to heavy for me and the bright spots where few and far between. However, if and when the price drops I would pick this version up. Especially if they re-release the Steelbook edition. It looks very cool. Hope I didn't rattle to many feathers with my opinion of this transfer. Lol. Thanks Fuzz

      No problem at all Dwayne! I thought the 4K looked decent, but I also haven't seen any previous home media editions. Last time I saw it was in the theater. I definitely wouldn't call this 4K a reference disc or anything like that. But I thought it looked decent for what it was and the type of film that it is. And I like what the wider color gamut and HDR does for the image on 4K (in general). That said, I'm also not as attached to this film as others are, so I don't have the history of viewing it multiple times over the course of years on different formats. And I'm probably not able to look at it with as critical an eye or as much attention to detail as I would be if I had a little more history with this film. In many ways, the 4K viewing was kind of like watching it for the first time for me... i only remembered bits and pieces of it from 30 years ago, and the overall atmosphere. Thanks for weighing in Dwayne! No worries at all... please always feel free to speak your mind.

It's the same backdrop as before, but I just moved out a little further away from my collection so you can see more of it (and I changed the color of the lights too... I think the light blue color is probably a winner). In the past I've been situated closer to my discs. But I think I'm gonna stick with this new layout moving forward. I like the appearance more.

      @@TheOriginalFuzz I second the improved framing in this video and why you did it. Well done.
      As for The Crow, I’m glad you gave it a second look. I loved seeing this film for several reasons. For one, it was one of the few times a comic book character created independently (by James O’Barr) - no Marvel or DC - had been produced. It took an Aussie, Alex Proyas, to take the bones of the character O’Barr created and make it very special, with a gothic atmospheric hat-tip to Batman 1989 and TV’s Dark Shadows.
      The Crow sequel made years later had all the same atmospherics but none of the interesting story or the characters from the original. By the way, Proyas went on to make one of the best films you’ve probably never have seen - Dark City - an emotional sequel if not a literal one to Blade Runner that looks like a film noir/horror film that changes 90 minutes in to something very different and very awesome. If you haven’t seen Dark City, you really should. Thanks for your good work! Wayne
