- The Worlds First Nintendo Switch Pro Elite Mod!!!! You all asked for it, and here it is. Rest assured No Xbox One Elite controllers were harmed in the making of this video.... The parts I used are listed below.
Nintendo Switch Pro Controller (if you can find one at the moment)
Xbox One Elite Component Kit: www.amazon.com...
Ignore all of the people who said not to do this. I was having an issue with my D-Pad on my pro controller after several hundred hours, and could not find a good way to fix it. This improved the controller and fixed my D-Pad issue. The one thing that is a little tricky is getting the right tightness on the screws to make the sticks not get stuck. This was totally worth it, I bought the kit for $20 and my controller feels better than new.
The one thing I did differently was I used scissors to clip off the green tabs, then use a box cutter to take off the nubs on the bottom, things came out looking great.
Mod the joycon wit a D-pad.
that has to happen at some point!
I bet Nintendo will make an official one for 50 bucks :^)
What
Oh ;...
The joycon is like... SUPER adaptable. They could do a gamecube themed one. Heck, they could include a version of a joycon with Analog Triggers!
How well does this work to this date, is it still solid? Did the metal hurt the plastic of the front cover over time?
it probably won't cause 1, the only part that is full metal is just the inner part, and the joystick covers the metal part with aluminium or plastick, and about the D-pad, it seems better than the nintendo one so in the worst case it broken or came apart
I did this mod, feels solid.
But no way the D-pad feels good like this it needs further modifications.
3d printing a base for it is best.
@@ethanv7330
Yeah, I'd consider 3D printing. Do you have a printer?
@@loop5720 I do not, I ended up taking a Dremel and cutting the bottom of a replacement pro D pad. Then super glued it to the top of the Xbox magnetic bit.
Worked like a charm, however I recommend the paper D-pad. Mod to go with it. 10/10 will do again.
"this doesn't stick anymore" yeah right you can see them stick a lot still lool
I just did mine, it's really easy.
The joysticks feel great.
D-pad hit and miss.
Update I fixed the D-pad issues as well.
@@ethanv7330 im guessing to made the green dpad thing to tight and went back and cut it better and it fixed?
When he said he's put many hours on the controller all I could think of was it's been in use for one week.....
If he played everyday for all 24 hours that would be 144 hours. So you can get a lot of hours out of a week.
PikaboYou But nobody plays without sleeping or eating.
You don't know me then lmao
hi ded person hows the afterlife?
I had 90+ hours in botw after a lil bit less than 2 weeks
Great vid overall, I was considering a few mods and this one looked interesting. One thing I do when working with metal screws going into plastic is to slowly turn the driver in the opposite direction until you feel the thread drop into the previous groove and then tighten. This will almost always feed it right back in without cross threading.
if i see another "waste of a $150 controller" comment, ima explode
What have you done
I know this is a old comment but for anyone looking at this these parts come in a $17 replacement part kit from eBay so I wouldn't go with the destroying a $150 controller route
@@ceyoung0304 please show me a link
He didn't waste $150 controller. You can buy the kit that comes with all the parts he just put in it for like $15
Waste of 150$ controller
10:10
"much much, better"....and it looks like it's still sticking?
With extended gameplay, did you find any problems with the analog sticks or D pad?
L1Games some one didn’t watch the whole video
The sticks work perfectly, I would recommend it. Dpad is totally unusable, way too shallow to push and the membrane can't pick up any input 50% of the time. It just doesn't fit.
@@jacobhawkins9496 came to the same conclusion myself after trying this mod.
@@Malathier Not really sure why he would upload this video after doing it. He must know the d-pad sucks.
The thumbsticks have metal washers on the back that make them to high and make them stick. If you take those off they work much much much better. You still can't tighten the case down crazy but ya know.
Thank you for the video.
I got inspired to mod my controller too. I did the thumbsticks over a month ago, but I just finished modding the D-pad now.
I have found that the Wii U D-pad is the same size as the Pro controller one. So I've modded that and kept the original in case I want to change it back.
Took more work than I expected and I had to trim the green magnetic piece quite a bit to get it to fit, but it's working perfectly.
Now my Xbox One, PS4 and Switch all use the same interchangeable thumbsticks and D-pad
Thanks for the inspiration.
Next thing you know, he'll make the JoyCons elite...
I actually want him to 😭😭
Might help with drift lol
This was awesome. Maybe one day when I get the courage to mess with this $70 control, I will do this mod.
Jose Sanchez Don't unless you know how to use and place screws, nails , etc. and remember where the parts go when you remove them.
Hey can you do it with the joy cons ?
+Rodrigo Henrrique: I checked it out, unfortunately there isn't enough space. But if I do any mods to them I will post it. Thanks for watching!!!
The Curious Consumer how is the mod working out especially w the d pad I did my ps4 control but would like to do this on the switch I didn't do the d pad on the ps4 control though
heres an idea for the joycon. get a mob to make you buttons with magnets in them and then have a custom made dpad made up that rests and clips onto them same could be done with the joysticks get custom 3d printed stick bases with magnetic tips for customizable analogue stick tops
Rodrigo Henrrique the joycons can't have a standard d pad in them because they have a smaller shell than the normal d pad allows for clearance. that be g said you would have to break parts of and the way that's going you might as well take your joycons and make a new and actuate recreation shell with and extended depth but then they won't fit on the switch. I am sure a lot of people thought about this but couldn't do it without breaking the controller.
Rodrigo Henrrique the joy cons have a different kind of joy stick. You can compare the controllers and see why.
I love that nintentos new hardware is so modular
I love your videos already, the only "bad" thing that I could say about your videos are that you don't have "the best quality videos". (Which I don't expect of you anyways) *this is not meant in a bad way*
Question: is it a good idea to recalibrate the sticks after you change them out?
Ik I’m literally 3 years late. But yeah
@@poopsniffer4436 its alright lol, thanks for trying to help
Just modded my own pro controller, really liking it so far! Thanks for the idea
Do you recommend modding a pro controller? I’m thinking about doing it
I am a purist (except when dealing with arcade quality parts), but I must admit the mod looks amazing.
+Mathiuz DeJesus Thanks so much for the kind words.
Great Video! I would love to see an Elite upgrade for the Joystick on a steam controller
For the only joystick yeah. But the steam controller is all trackpad. So it's not much modification
I've done this mod over 2 year's ago, because this is the first NS pro controller mod video I saw. The new X-Box thumbsticks are now a must for me.I even did the, X box D-Pad with poor result. If a company made an modified, Nintendo Pro controller D-Pad like, X box you could use the elite 2 D-PADS. But unfortunately, no company makes such Nintendo Pro controller, X-Box elite hybrid D-PAD.
I wonder what this guy has to offer.
*Talks about taking apart the pro controller*
Well that's the fastest I've ever subscribed to someone. Off to the previous video!
I don't even like the elite design parts, but still I'm watching these kind of modding videos lol
Thanks for the help. I put this mod on my new pro controller. It feels even better now. I may mod a second one, but don’t want to “help” the competition. Great vid.
My elite controller killed itself outside of warranty. Thank you for posting this! Now I have a use for it again
That ribbon cable is a demon
2:12 A pair of inexpensive flush cutters would work very well for giving a nice clean cut when removing those tabs also. I like this mod. Might have to do my own controller to differentiate it from my kids' controllers lol
Could you do a short video using pro controller with a game?
This was really well done. Great Job!
You never really notice how nice a controller looks until you see someone rip it apart and put it back together
Wish that people that do this mod would actually talk about the difference in feel... I want to know why I should actually do it
I did it but the dpad is a waste of time, doesn't work right so I put the original back on. I actually like the feel of the stucks but that's just me, some people might not like it. I did have to adjust screws so that the sticks weren't so tight like in the video.
If you shave off the top of the analog sticks about 1/32" (or cut to the bottom of the chamfered edge) then the analog sticks will fit perfectly without binding when everything is tightened.
is it bad that I was expecting this as soon as I saw the pro controller
I enjoyed your video, and it's great to see you do some modifications for the switch pro controller.
I love my elite controllers. When I eventually get a switch I may have to consider a mod like this.
It's so weird that the d-pad actually fits in both the Wii U gamepad and the Switch Pro controller d-pad socket. It's almost like Nintendo and Microsoft's controller pieces are cross-compatible on purpose! I also came up with a name for this modded controller ; the Nintendo Switch Elite Controller! (fun fact: The original Switch Pro controller bought together with the parts listed in the description is actually cheaper than the Xbox One Elite controller itself.)
Thank you for making this video I've been inspired to make a better one where the joysticks are from the elite series 2
yes lets take a good controller and fuck it up like this.....
Miwer1000 definitely way better than the original
Lol
Miwer1000 it looks good but yea i see your point about fucking it up... kinda looks like the sticks still stick...
Now do the same for the joycons!
that d-pad is very bad
These vids are so enjoyable to watch :D you just made that controller 100% better than it was before!.
The steel sticks/D-pad fits so well with the Pro controller for some reason...
I wish the Pro Controller had at least two back button's, I own the Xbox One Elite and a AiM controller for my PS4 and I'm use to back buttons now
+The Curious Consumer Is it possible to replace the Plus, Minus, Home and Capture buttons with the equivalent buttons from an Xbox One controller? I have a disability that severely limits my strength, so I can't push those buttons on the Switch Pro controller, but I can on an Xbox One controller. Would that work?
DigitlSamurai Maybe.
There's a video on a channel called My mate Vince shows you how to use an Xbox controller on the Switch.
Hope this helps
really awesome video. i'm glad to see a mod that dosent need to mess with the controller itself. also the elite controller parts arent to expensive to buy.
Why in your later videos this controller no longer has the elite D-Pad?
Already. Cant wait to see the finish product
I was hoping for the joycon controllers but was still not disapointed. Thanks for your curiosity or else we wouldnt have watched this video keep up the excellent work
NO!! YOU RUINED IT! Nintendo D pads are the s#$t! lol Nice video man. This is a cool idea! :)
I had a dream about this last night
Ok
Temple I think I saw you in resident evil 7
Good for you
If I give you $50 will you do this for me
I didn't
Fake and gay
I'm really surprised to see how many people don't know that you can buy parts separate.
Just use a nailcutter to cut off the excess plastic for the d pad. Much better and quieter
This is the first time seeing a video on your channel and I really like the idea of the xbox elite mods on the nintendo switch pro controller. Very interesting video I am now subscribed.
FYI. in aliexpress they sell it for 6 buck only. the Dpad and flat one for Xbox one elite replacment.
Damn thats awesome. Subbed.
I'm definitely going to be attempting this when I can actually get my hands on a Switch.
That's a really nice mod, I'm impressed.
that looks really slick, but I'd never do it, I love appreciating the work of the designer.
the dpad is really intriguing though, wonder how it feels compared to the original dpad
Awesome work man. Keep it up. I like what your doing. I might think of something and post it for you to try.
Just wanted to let you know that you inspirede me to do this myself! I love the elite parts! Can you review BASSTOP joycon shells with Dpad next?
I would never do that to my awesome Elite Controller especially since it cost half of the Switch already... The Pro Controller is already awesome too.
Ernest Pierce They do sell separate packs that come with the sticks, dpad, etc in stores like gamestop. I do agree with the controller being good enough already though
Ernest Pierce you can get the concave and standard d-pad for $12 in ebay. no need to buy the elite controller.
Ernest Pierce you could buy a broken elite controller and harvest it for parts.
Ripcord303 loot!
Ernest Pierce funny because this kit cost less then $15
Paint that green thing black, gray or red, it will match the controller much better.
As soon as a find a pro controller, I want to do this. If its at least as good as the Wii U pro controller, I know I'll be happy with it.
Hey, You should look into getting a set of plastic nippers. You can pick up a decent pair pretty cheap at a hobby shop (for plastic models). Most will have a bunch of loonie metal files as well to smooth out the cut. It's quick, easy and probably a lot easier for smaller jobs like cutting the plastic nubs off the dpad
Dude, awesome! I'm going to be doing this for sure.
Looks cool, but that's so expensive.
Tk flash You can buy the Xbox One Elite parts separately, but the Switch Pro controller is still gonna cost you
the xbox one elite replacement parts are around $15-20 tops on ebay, so its not expensive at all!
You can get a $15 kit for the thumb sticks
this is actually a really easy mod, glad to see
Great video! i finally did this mod on my Pro Controller, and it looks great and feels fantastic. The controller feels so much more solid and substantial with these metal parts. It makes the Pro pretty much perfect. Except...
One thing-- the nub on the underside of the Elite d-pad is even shorter that the nub on the Pro, which is already infamous for it's errant button press problem. So i'm wondering-- have you (or anyone really) noticed if this d-pad is worse than the Pro's? And, has anyone come up with a solution to this problem? I was thinking one solution might be to glue a plastic or metal riser in the center of the d-pad sensors on the board, which seems like a more stable mechanism than trying to glue the post/nub from the Pro's d-pad to the underside of the Elite d-pad (i also don't really want to destroy the original Pro d-pad just to get the post). Anyone have any ideas?
EDIT: I've also seen a solution where pieces of tape are placed over the center half of each sensor on the board, but i'm not sure if this would work with the Elite d-pad, since it's post/nub is so much shorter than the Pro's.
Have you figured out the best solution by now? And does this also work with the controls of the Xbox Elite Series 2?
Awesome work bro. Im so glad you did this. I just picked up a pro controller today and was wonderi g how i could make it better.
Nice mod. I might try this myself. Subscribed 👍🏼
Really great mod, I would only do the sticks so you can change the heights to what suits you best.
Congrats mah dude
Great work! but did you test it after mod ? I also use XBOX elite Controller to mod ,but there is a problem, the cross key backside bulge in the middle is relatively short , make the cross keys easy to push the side of the keys。。。
I mean you could or you could just get an Xbox elite controller and buy and adapter
Mod the Xbox 360 controller, it's my go to PC controller so it would be cool to see it moded in the elite style as well.
Just buy one...
nice job it's looks good
ITS THE PRO-PRO CONTROLLER
ND Games pro-elite controller
Just tried this mod the exact same way he did. The thumb sticks worked out fine but the d pad doesn't play all that nicely. The d pad registers wrong directions or nothing at all
It would be awesome to see you make a Nintendo Gamecube Elite controller!
Next you Should hydro dip the joycon face plates
thumbs up so curious can see
Edit: probably shouldn't do that seeing that you can't use skins...
Wow nice mod I wish I could get my hands on that controller
An ice cube tray genius
So i did this mod. Its no question the dpad isnt working properly. I reopened my pro controller and looked into the nub that the elite is missing. So i decided to apply hot glue to mimic the nintendo dpad nub. I can say now it works great now.
I would really like to replace the dpad of the Pro Controller, but I can't seem to get the kit to sweden, so I guess it will have to wait.
do this to a gameboy color or gameboy advance xD
Nice job on this mod! Have you ever tried painting the green d-pad like on the Emio PS4 controller? I was thinking about painting my One S d-pad white, but wanted to see how it worked first. Thanks!
I am glad you pulled this off and I hope it works out for you but I would loose my mind if someone did this to my pro controller. Just saying.
Ok
Sick. That's really awesome!
Is the Xbox D-pad really better than the Nintendo D-pad?
It depends on personal taste. However, we all have to admit Nintendo has the d-pad thing down to a science, as they created, evolved it, and perfect it in every iteration they have presented in 30+ years.
I wish they had them, or at least have them release a joypad with a D-pad in the near future.
AbdallahSmash026#1Fan No, the Joycons don't have a d- pad because both controlle need buttons during multiplayer games.
Mathiuz DeJesus Yeah my thoughts exactly. I've never once liked a d-pad more than a Nintendo. But I haven't tried the XB one, so I thought I'd get a second opinion.
+Big Z: simply said no the Xbox d pad is Not better than the Nintendo one. I only changed it because I like the ascetics of the elite d pad. Functionality wise the Nintendo d pad all the way. Thanks for watching and the comment.
this mod isnt for me but i guess whatever floats your goat
I was waiting for this one great mod
Switch the Right joycon's analog stick and buttons. It's awkward how the are now.
I love how everyones slapping xbox one elite parts on every controller and calling them elite controllers. lol
Damn and my new one is faulty, link keeps walking on his own
They should make this! I know they already did the PS4 elite controller. Why not Switch too?
Just asking because i wanna mod myself my Switch controller: what sticks fits and what knobs fits too, please?
I wanna buy separate parts but i don't know which one will fit.
I have here an xbox one & à ps3 controller i could remove sticks from but i don't know if they'll fit so.. :/
Thanks & great video!
I am way too tempted to do this but way too scared to ruin the perfectly fine Pro controller.
Xbox controllers are just damn sexy
best controller ever
Elite sticks on a toaster, please. I think that’s the video we all want to see.
Does the d-pad work on yours? because i tried the mod on my controller and it has issues when being pressed (e.g. when left is pressed, up will also be pressed automatically)
Same thing here, its way too mushy. Trying to find a workaround before I put the original dpad back in.
@@luiszambrana5648 i tried to find a workaround too but there's waaaay too much wiggle room for the elite dpad to move around in hence the multiple button presses.
Awesome guide. I want this but I'm pretty sure I'll fuck it up somehow.
love your video.
Bruh. I need this!!! It would have been cool if you made a d-pad option with the separated buttons
i noticed that you're using a rotary tool to take off some bits of plastic looking pieces from the edge of the replacement dpad. is that plactic something that i could use a scissor to cut of or do i have to use a rotary tool for it?
