The beauty of this game series is that it fufills the core desire to play dress up games I have had since childhood playing flash dress up games. Can't wait for Synsophia's spirtual successor to NSB/Style Savvy called Fashion Dreamer for switch!
I liked not paying attention to the price of an outfit and then telling the customer to try it on. Then getting really lucky in the customer likeing the outfit so much they still buy it even though it was out of their price range lol.
I don't know if you realized this already, but the in-game brands are actually based on/parodying existing brands, so I feel that adds a whole new layer to it helping people shop better IRL.

Mario kart 8 is vertical mixing when you move to the karts, adding instruments, and horizontally mixing moving on to the track selection, as the soundtrack that was playing changes to a different one. I’m a guy, and I have never played dress up games before. But as I grew older, and I opened myself up more to my creativity and expended my horizons to more genres in games, I’ve wanted to try a dress up game. I’ve been aware of “Style Savvy” for as long as I’ve had my first DS, but never paid much attention to it. I’ve heard good things about the series, and am now interested in the new game “Fashion Dreamer” coming out.

you should definitely pick this game up! im not much into dress-up either but it's really good! it's a great gateway into getting into fashion and expanding your creativity, plus the strategic element is really good!
style savvy/boutique is one of my favourite series ever, and its actually one of my special interests! needless to say, i absolutely adored this video and i cant wait to see more installments for fashion forward + styling star!! it was honestly so interesting hearing your opinions on certain aspects of the game, and how different our playstyles are (in a good way) :) i did want to mention some things i noticed while watching, though, that you may have missed due to your save already being super far into the game: 1. happiness actually does give you really great rewards at the beginning! this is how you unlock more storage space, hair styles, make-up, and more exhibition hall stores :) it does end after a while, though, which is when you start getting only clothing (which you mentioned) 2. the assistants actually do have different things they can do, although it seems a bit rare whenever they actually do it. Hazel and Danny keeps your stockroom full, Trevor and Deirdre will sometimes sell items on their own when the day starts, and lastly Shea and Gordon will dress themselves up without your help. like i said, these seem insanely rare though for some reason? 3. the perfume actually does do something - they affect the particles that surround your character when they're equipped. for example, one of them gives you sparkles around your character, another gives flowers, etc etc sorry for such a long comment!! overall, this was an amazing video and deep dive into the trendsetters game. i actually didnt know about the layers of music when you put on clothing, and oh my god my mind is absolutely blown. keep it up!! i rly can't wait for future videos!!!

For point 2: I’ve noticed that Shea changes her outfit more often if you’ve dressed her in something that doesn’t fit the theme of your store. For example, if I dress her in head to toe AZ-USA and then change my store theme to a Gothic Lolita theme she’ll change almost instantly or shortly after to more closely match the store theme.
when you started talking about the egregious jump from light to dark skin tones & the lack of undertones that aren’t red i was like “same i have been complaining abt this nonstop for years”… and then it turns out we have the EXACT same ethnicity LOL. seriously tho why do npcs get to have olive undertones, but i don’t i’m debating whether to get this game rn, so i’ve been watching a lot of gameplay videos. i think i’ll go for it

I agreed with too. I LOVE the first game, but I was so bummed when I replayed it and only saw like 4 skin tone options. I had to go with the darker option because the lighter one was WAY lighter than my actual skin tone. I don't get why they gave npcs other variety but we couldn't get it? I hope they just add a slider to later games so we can just choose for ourselves lol. Please get the game regardless though. It's such a fun series and you'll really enjoy it ^^

I’m excited for Fashion Dreamer on the switch which seems to be the successor to this series (as it’s developed by Syn Sophia as well). I loved this game as a kid but I always wished there was a better selection of alternative styles as the most well put together styles were the 3-4 girly categories (feminine, girly, bold, and lively). Some of those stage dive pieces were… questionable haha. It seems fashion dreamer won’t have a shop at all but instead you’ll be able to design your own clothes and show them off and that’s kind of it but there’s like 1829228182728929171718 style options when creating clothes according to the trailer. Seein actual gothic clothing (that isn’t just gothic Lolita) like trad or romantic goth will be so cool cause I could just recreate what’s actually in my own wardrobe as long as things I wished I really owned
Also yes it is called Adaptive music. When the music changes depending on what is happening on screen. like if you go underwater in games and the song changes to fit that. The Pikmin series actuall does this a lot too. It's basically everywhere. I love it.

Le Spark/Miss Ribbon/Bisc Mary is actually a hime gyaru brand that is inspired by the sassy flirty style of Hime (Princess) Gals and more specifically resembles old designs of the Japanese Brands "Ma*rs" and "Jesus Diamante" and "Tralala" I don't blame you for not knowing cuz there is literally no western equivalent to Himegal and I guess they didn't know how to explain it and went with glam...well better than the german one that straight up said "Rockabilly" and "Retro Glam" As a big fan of Gyaru subculture I was sad that they removed the entire hime style from later installations and just distributed the items to other Brands...I kinda get it cuz Hime Gyaru specifically is pretty much dead in Japan but then again some other styles no one in Japan wears anymore still exist in the game..

I played a Very Legal copy of one of the DS games briefly but wasn't super sucked into it and unfortunately wrote off fashion games for a long time until suddenly Love Nikki caught me in a chokehold in the tail end of the 2010's. I'm hopeful about Fashion Dreamer bc of the emphasis on different fashions, customization, and letting you swap between character models (including masc and fem body types, instant win for my enby self). Like what you said about the later titles leaning too heavily into a hyper girly style, while that can be a fun aesthetic I don't like when it becomes the game's main identity. I'd love to play Style Boutique and I really hope Fashion Dreamer does well implementing what made the Style Boutique series so good. If the soundtrack brings back that bass I'm in. It's so good wtf.
I love these games, I was so sad when I couldn’t dress the men in all the styles the girls had. I started with the first one, I loved the goth styles and when the most recent one added men I was so excited to try those styles out on them. I played this game all the time but wished it had more length, and maybe a harder difficulty. This game was ridiculously easy and getting the special cutscenes for an outfit I barely tried on really knocked my confidence.
mens styles are all quite similar, especially in comparison to the womens, which sucks :( the concept of a slightly more mature style boutique game with a harder difficulty, and maybe more complex customer requests would be really interesting. how far could you stretch the formula??? I wanna find out 🏡

It's definitely worth it! I played through the first one again recently and now I'm on trendsetters since I never got to experience it as a kid(I freaking sold my 3DS for some reason when I was a kid and then immediately regretted it lmao). I didn't know there were other games so I can't wait to play fashion forward next! I know the next 2 games have some knit picks but I hope I still enjoy them 😊

I have the original DS game, this one and Style Boutique 2 :) I've loved playing dress up all my life so having ganes like these which have so my love and care poured in was a blessing, so lovely to hear someone else's memories with this series! 💖 I also remember the characters were pretty strange in the original, like Rococo the fashion diva and Dominic the... random rich guy idk? I totally wished my character could date him 💔

I used to be WAYYY into the original DS game as a kid. I used to go to the library to get onto the wifi system with the DS to download DLC clothes and go to other people's stores. It was my favourite thing!! I did try the newer entries but none of them ever scratched the same itch. Also, I miss the characters from the first game. I always wondered what the story would evolve into but then I found out the newer entries don't have them in it?? like huh?
yeahh, I think the use of wifi connection in the OG trumps the other games (even if I've never played it) since it's rlly creative! Plus having a somewhat chronological story, while also keeping the games easy to understand for new players would have been SO COOL! I WANT TO SEE DOMINIC AND RENÉE IN THEIR PRIME!!!

oh!! its so cool to see people talking about this game. the funny thing about this series is that i played the ds one, and this one, but not the sequels! but well, i played this one to Death to make up for it. theres something very nice about this game, and the experience of fulfulling customer requests. im Really hoping fashion dreamers can live up to how much i enjoyed those mechanics!

Actually the developer Syn Sophia approached Nintendo for a new Style Boutique entry for the switch, but Nintendo declined to publish it themselves. So they went with another publisher instead and has to change the IP name as Nintendo holds the rights to it. So Fashion Dreamer is Style Boutique in all but name and we should support them if we don't want games like this to disappear forever

I’m a guy, and I have never played dress up games before. But as I grew older, and I opened myself up more to my creativity and expended my horizons to more genres in games, I’ve wanted to try a dress up game. I’ve been aware of “Style Savvy” for as long as I’ve had my first DS, but never paid much attention to it. I’ve heard good things about the series, and am now interested in the new game “Fashion Dreamer” coming out.

you should definitely pick this game up! im not much into dress-up either but it's really good! it's a great gateway into getting into fashion and expanding your creativity, plus the strategic element is really good!

style savvy/boutique is one of my favourite series ever, and its actually one of my special interests! needless to say, i absolutely adored this video and i cant wait to see more installments for fashion forward + styling star!! it was honestly so interesting hearing your opinions on certain aspects of the game, and how different our playstyles are (in a good way) :)
i did want to mention some things i noticed while watching, though, that you may have missed due to your save already being super far into the game:
1. happiness actually does give you really great rewards at the beginning! this is how you unlock more storage space, hair styles, make-up, and more exhibition hall stores :) it does end after a while, though, which is when you start getting only clothing (which you mentioned)
2. the assistants actually do have different things they can do, although it seems a bit rare whenever they actually do it. Hazel and Danny keeps your stockroom full, Trevor and Deirdre will sometimes sell items on their own when the day starts, and lastly Shea and Gordon will dress themselves up without your help. like i said, these seem insanely rare though for some reason?
3. the perfume actually does do something - they affect the particles that surround your character when they're equipped. for example, one of them gives you sparkles around your character, another gives flowers, etc etc
sorry for such a long comment!! overall, this was an amazing video and deep dive into the trendsetters game. i actually didnt know about the layers of music when you put on clothing, and oh my god my mind is absolutely blown. keep it up!! i rly can't wait for future videos!!!

For point 2: I’ve noticed that Shea changes her outfit more often if you’ve dressed her in something that doesn’t fit the theme of your store. For example, if I dress her in head to toe AZ-USA and then change my store theme to a Gothic Lolita theme she’ll change almost instantly or shortly after to more closely match the store theme.

I agreed with too. I LOVE the first game, but I was so bummed when I replayed it and only saw like 4 skin tone options. I had to go with the darker option because the lighter one was WAY lighter than my actual skin tone. I don't get why they gave npcs other variety but we couldn't get it? I hope they just add a slider to later games so we can just choose for ourselves lol. Please get the game regardless though. It's such a fun series and you'll really enjoy it ^^

I tell you I GASPED when I first saw fashion dreamer, it was as huge to me as the Nintendo switch sports announcement (fashion dreamer will be better though, I've seen enough to convince me now 🐎)

I’m excited for Fashion Dreamer on the switch which seems to be the successor to this series (as it’s developed by Syn Sophia as well). I loved this game as a kid but I always wished there was a better selection of alternative styles as the most well put together styles were the 3-4 girly categories (feminine, girly, bold, and lively). Some of those stage dive pieces were… questionable haha. It seems fashion dreamer won’t have a shop at all but instead you’ll be able to design your own clothes and show them off and that’s kind of it but there’s like 1829228182728929171718 style options when creating clothes according to the trailer. Seein actual gothic clothing (that isn’t just gothic Lolita) like trad or romantic goth will be so cool cause I could just recreate what’s actually in my own wardrobe as long as things I wished I really owned
yeah my jaw DROPPED when I watched that trailer and saw the numbers. wasn't sure on getting it beforehand but idk... it's getting convincing...
Also yes it is called Adaptive music. When the music changes depending on what is happening on screen. like if you go underwater in games and the song changes to fit that. The Pikmin series actuall does this a lot too. It's basically everywhere. I love it.

Le Spark/Miss Ribbon/Bisc Mary is actually a hime gyaru brand that is inspired by the sassy flirty style of Hime (Princess) Gals and more specifically resembles old designs of the Japanese Brands "Ma*rs" and "Jesus Diamante" and "Tralala"

As a big fan of Gyaru subculture I was sad that they removed the entire hime style from later installations and just distributed the items to other Brands...I kinda get it cuz Hime Gyaru specifically is pretty much dead in Japan but then again some other styles no one in Japan wears anymore still exist in the game..

I played a Very Legal copy of one of the DS games briefly but wasn't super sucked into it and unfortunately wrote off fashion games for a long time until suddenly Love Nikki caught me in a chokehold in the tail end of the 2010's. I'm hopeful about Fashion Dreamer bc of the emphasis on different fashions, customization, and letting you swap between character models (including masc and fem body types, instant win for my enby self). Like what you said about the later titles leaning too heavily into a hyper girly style, while that can be a fun aesthetic I don't like when it becomes the game's main identity. I'd love to play Style Boutique and I really hope Fashion Dreamer does well implementing what made the Style Boutique series so good.

I love these games, I was so sad when I couldn’t dress the men in all the styles the girls had. I started with the first one, I loved the goth styles and when the most recent one added men I was so excited to try those styles out on them.
I played this game all the time but wished it had more length, and maybe a harder difficulty. This game was ridiculously easy and getting the special cutscenes for an outfit I barely tried on really knocked my confidence.
mens styles are all quite similar, especially in comparison to the womens, which sucks :(
the concept of a slightly more mature style boutique game with a harder difficulty, and maybe more complex customer requests would be really interesting. how far could you stretch the formula??? I wanna find out 🏡

It's definitely worth it! I played through the first one again recently and now I'm on trendsetters since I never got to experience it as a kid(I freaking sold my 3DS for some reason when I was a kid and then immediately regretted it lmao). I didn't know there were other games so I can't wait to play fashion forward next! I know the next 2 games have some knit picks but I hope I still enjoy them 😊

I have the original DS game, this one and Style Boutique 2 :) I've loved playing dress up all my life so having ganes like these which have so my love and care poured in was a blessing, so lovely to hear someone else's memories with this series! 💖 I also remember the characters were pretty strange in the original, like Rococo the fashion diva and Dominic the... random rich guy idk? I totally wished my character could date him 💔
I know that japan got DLC for this game which meant you could have a boyfriend BUT LOWKEY HIGHKEY ADDING AN OPTIONAL DATING OPTION WOULD BE FUNNY

I used to be WAYYY into the original DS game as a kid. I used to go to the library to get onto the wifi system with the DS to download DLC clothes and go to other people's stores. It was my favourite thing!! I did try the newer entries but none of them ever scratched the same itch. Also, I miss the characters from the first game. I always wondered what the story would evolve into but then I found out the newer entries don't have them in it?? like huh?
yeahh, I think the use of wifi connection in the OG trumps the other games (even if I've never played it) since it's rlly creative! Plus having a somewhat chronological story, while also keeping the games easy to understand for new players would have been SO COOL! I WANT TO SEE DOMINIC AND RENÉE IN THEIR PRIME!!!

random, but when i called a game store in my state to ask if they got the style savvy ds game the employee mentioned two style savvy games for the 3ds, the first mentioned was the trendsetters one and the other was the fashion forward one and since i already have style savvy fashion forward, i should've considered getting style savvy trendsetters since i'm a huge sucker for the style savvy games and i was heavily focused on getting the original style savvy ds game LMAO

I’ll still play it 🤷
