    I do dandelion decoction on a Sunday! I add lemon peels, grapefruit peels, ginger, bay leaves and fennel seeds. I make a big batch for me and my husband to consume for one week. Lots of benefits in them!

      @@theacadiangarden It is so tasty 🌱I have a massive bay tree at the back garden so I use a lot of the leaves. I put a lot of ginger, too 😍If me and my husband would not tolerate the bitterness, then I just have to add Xylitol. Amazing benefits Xylitol gives as well x

    First and foremost, youre absolutely adorable and beautiful! I just love that you promote overall natural health, foraging sustainably and responsibly, AND include some bodily issues you experience yourself!
    The info you left out that i would love to have is the type of tea kettle you have and place you go it. People with experience may know such things, but I do not. And im working on a list of things to get when im able to because I would rather work my eay down it when i can than to try to find all the creators and videos again.
    Also, I love the simplicity of your videos and that you don't try to implicate which way is best to partake! IMO, it helps people keep an open mindframe towards earing healthier as opposed to worrying about the whatnots or which way is "best". And i totslly think that as Americans in general our food horizons need to be significantly healthier! I started the research and journeybat the beginning of this year and realized that our "messy/weedy/unattended" backyard is actually quite lush with things like chickeeed, dandelion, dead purple nettle, shiso, wild onion, and things I'm sure I have yet to discover.
    Thank you for sharing and everything!

    Thank you for this information! I’m definitely going to try it out. Also I found you saying that you’re supposed to use DRY plants for tinctures SUPER Helpful as I’m about to make lemon balm tincture and wasn’t sure which to use ❤

    • @theacadiangarden
      @theacadiangarden  Год назад +1

      Dried herbs are safest for tinctures to protect from any chances of spoiling. Over time I have been experimenting with tincturing fresh, wilted herbs and have not run into any issues. So you could use either but dried is your safest bet! 🌱

    • @Divinevista
      @Divinevista 5 месяцев назад +1

      Dried herbs are not necessary to make a tincture. It is totally fine to use fresh herbs to make a tincture. I’ve been doing this for years as have many herbalists. Plus you would want to have the water soluble properties of many herbs 🌿. Good luck.

    • @theacadiangarden
      @theacadiangarden  5 месяцев назад +1

      I agree it is super hard to dig in compacted areas. I’ve actually started a raised row just for dandelion that I began last year. You don’t even have to buy seeds, just shallowly bury the seed heads when they start to puff up. A layer of soil, sawdust soaked in organic liquid fertilizer and soil again as tall as you’d like the roots to be long. Just started pulling some this spring and they are long, clean and sooo easy to pull! :). Hope this helps.

    Does boiling degrade the vitamins like vitamin C and A? I always wonder if it needs to be fresh to get all the vitamins and such. Really enjoying your videos!

    • @theacadiangarden
      @theacadiangarden  Год назад +1

      Hello! Vitamin A is fat soluble and not degraded by heat and light, so it will remain preserved even if you cook it. Vitamin c can be destroyed by boiling but usually not all of it. Vitamin C is also water soluble so if you can get some of the vitamin C in a cup of tea or by making sure to consume the water in whatever you boil. Hope this helps!

      I am not a licensed doctor or therapist and am not familiar with electrosensitivity. There are herbs that contain nervines that help to sedate the nervous system. These include lemon balm and milky oats. St John’s Wort as well but talk to a doctor first as St. John’s Wort interacts with a lot of medications. Hope this helps!

    Great video. I have a question about the tincture. When you say you take it twice, do you take a full dropper full just by squeezing it in your mouth under the tongue? Or do you mix it in with water ?

    • @theacadiangarden
      @theacadiangarden  6 месяцев назад +1

      Both! Sometimes directly under the tongue, sometimes with water or with a cup of hot tea. Tinctures don’t taste great but you can definitely take it directly in a pinch.

      Thank you! We have dabbled in making our own with an alembic still and have made about a 120 proof ethyl alcohol. (My husband has much more experience in this than I). I have not used it for tinctures yet and normally use store-bought vodka. Perhaps in the near future we will switch to using our own.

    • @theacadiangarden
      @theacadiangarden  4 месяца назад

      I don’t use it for constipation, but it can produce laxative effects in some people. It usually stops after a few weeks of daily use after your body gets used to it. My understanding is that eating the root will give you more immediate results.

    How do I get these ingredients when I live in Tucson, Az?

    • @theacadiangarden
      @theacadiangarden  Год назад +1

      I forage mine from my property. Many folks also grow dandelions in pots, which works quite well and you can easily harvest the roots when ready in 2 seasons. Collect the white puffs from wild dandelion and bury them shallowly in some soil and water frequently, they will grow readily. If you cannot forage or grow a quick google search will show you there are lots of places online to order herbs. I won't recommend any specific company as I have never ordered herbs online and cannot speak to the quality or ethical sourcing of any company... so do your research! Hope this helps.

  • @countrywifelife
    @countrywifelife Год назад +1

    Can you harvest the root at any time during the growing season?

    • @theacadiangarden
      @theacadiangarden  Год назад

      I do! There has been some debate as to whether you should harvest in spring or fall for the best concentration of the beneficial compounds and minerals. My personal opinion is that as long as the plant is more than 1 season old you will get high quality roots. (Though it is hard to tell until you dig it up!)

      Hello Sheree! I like to add two droppers full, twice daily to a hot tea of my choice. (Usually chamomile or mint). The tea helps to evaporate most of the alcohol while leaving behind the good stuff :)

      I don’t drink alcohol at all, so would drinking the root tea have the same effect for helping with adult acne?

    • @theacadiangarden
      @theacadiangarden  Год назад

      Jennifer Zellner definitely. A decoction is usually how the root is prepared (essential a tea that is boiled for half an hour). Two-three cups a day should have a similar effect, but beware, when you first start taking dandelion root it takes a bit of time for the body to adjust and at first it may have a mild laxative effect.

    How do you dry you dandelion root?

    • @theacadiangarden
      @theacadiangarden  Год назад +4

      I cut it with kitchen shears while it is still wet and pliable. The smaller the better. Then I let it sit out for 5-6 days somewhere dark and dry. The chunks should harden significantly and be very tough. If any of the pieces are still a little squishy I throw it in my air fryer on the dehydrate setting at 105 for about 2 hours. You can also use a stove but you have to watch it carefully and maybe leave the stove door open so it doesn’t get too hot inside.

    Your tincture is soo much darker than mine, do you think it means the darker the more potent? And if you make a glass of tea is it supposed to turn dark from one drop or does your tea also stay really uncolored?

    • @emermiedema9990
      @emermiedema9990 9 месяцев назад

      I used 80% of alcohol btw letting it sit for one month :)

    • @theacadiangarden
      @theacadiangarden  9 месяцев назад +1

      I usually use 90 Proof for dandelion root because it’s so much tougher than the leaves. That can have an effect on the color, but quantity, whether it’s dry or fresh, how much you chop it up before-hand and length of processing time all have an effect. You are definitely right that usually the darker the color the more beneficial constituents are that floating around in your solution.
      As far as adding it to tea, I usually make an herbal tea and add the tincture in as a supplement, so it’s hard to tell if it darkens anymore. Thanks for your questions!
