    I’m glad I watched this because I think I have a bunch of false dandelion in my front yard, thinking it was the real thing

    Your videos are so relaxing and grounding to watch. I love how you truly take the time to be present when harvesting and preparing your herbs. You are a wonderful teacher! I've been enjoying fresh dandelion leaves from my yard in pesto, on sandwiches and in sautes, but hadn't thought of roasting the roots like other root vegetables. That's what I'll try next! Thanks again for your beautiful content, what you're sharing is so important and very uplifting as well. xo

      Thank you so much! You’ve given me a great idea as well, dandelion pesto! That sounds like a great way to add more bitters into my diet, thank you for sharing. :)

    Hi - Is it okay to collect dandelion from an Urban park ? Or wull this have heavy metals? if no where would you say is safe i a city? Love this thanks for the info!

    • @theacadiangarden
      @theacadiangarden  5 дней назад

      It would be impossible to say, without being there and knowing the history of the park. If you cannot be certain, you can always collect a few dandelion flowers when they start puffing up and plant the seed heads under two cms of soil. They grow just fine in pots!

    Hello, would you make a video on making your own bitters? An alcohol-free version would be great. Tried buying bitters at the health food store but realized when I got home that is has alcohol in it 😣

      Thank you, I certainly will. It has been long requested that I show some ways to make shelf stable, herbal remedies without the use of alcohol. I will be releasing a herbal remedies 101 sometime this coming week and will include making bitters into that discussion. :)

    So are you saying the ones in my yard shouldn’t be used?🥺
    I have a lot in my yard and I am ready to preserve them!💖

    • @theacadiangarden
      @theacadiangarden  3 месяца назад

      It depends! Is your yard close to a public road or is there any potential that your yard has been treated/sprayed in the last 5 years or so? If not, a diligent washing should be enough.

      @@theacadiangarden I live right on the corner of my street, residential street.
      I have a side yard that’s less accessible to the street?
      I’m checking about the yard being sprayed, just waiting for a response.

    • @theacadiangarden
      @theacadiangarden  3 месяца назад

      @cherylkirksey That’s great that you are checking. If it comes back that you cannot use what grows directly in the yard, you can also buy dandelion seeds online (Taraxacum officinalis) from Strictly Medicinal Seeds. Grow them in a deep pot and you will get lots of roots and leafy greens to use and the roots grow incredibly fast in the fluffy soil since it is less compact than the natural ground. Good luck to you!

      @@theacadiangardenHi! I have a similar question. I have dandelions in my yard that I also want to harvest, but we also live next to a Main Street but don’t use any herbicides or anything on our lawn. My question is, why wouldn’t it be safe to harvest from your lawn (assuming you don’t use herbicides) if you live in an urban area if it is common practice for people to grow food gardens in their home in urban areas? I’m assuming harvesting in more rural areas would be the best option away from pollution, but wouldn’t harvesting from your lawn be a similar case?

    • @theacadiangarden
      @theacadiangarden  3 месяца назад

      @jessicafuentes9544 great question! I live out in the country on about 7 acres so my “lawn” stretches a great deal further behind where my house was constructed, in an area that has never been developed. When your yard is in close proximity to the road, the chemicals used in roadwork or road maintenance can seep heavy metals and carcinogens into the surrounding ground.
      Also, construction projects in the cities are well known to leech heavy metals into the grounds, where they accumulate in toxic levels that can easily be taken up by dandelion roots
      It is a common practice for urban gardens to use phytoremediation plants like sunflowers to help remove excess metals from the soil.
      A distance of about 14 feet from the roadside should be safe, if all other risk factors like spraying and recent construction are not a concern. Hope this helps!

    Do you use soap to wash the dandelion? Or how do you wash what you forage

    • @theacadiangarden
      @theacadiangarden  Год назад

      Hi Diana. I don’t use soap, I agitate the roots in a basin of water with my hands to remove dirt, rocks and critters. Then I usually rinse the roots and rub with my hands (a veggie brush works great as well.) I usually remove the finer root hairs from the tap root, as these are just a tangled mess where soil can be trapped. But it’s 100% elbow grease and rinsing!

      Hello,
      There is a lot to say about dandelion, more than I can cover in one video. I talk more about the flower in this video here:
      Dandelion! 3 Healthy Uses & Remedies
      ruclips.net/video/tQANWG6j_CA/видео.html
      You can also check out my list of reels/shorts. In one of them I make dandelion fritters. In terms of nutritional benefits, it is similar to the leaves. You can also use the petals in an oil infusion for skin ailments, but I have not tested this yet myself. Maybe in a future video.
      Hope this answers your question, thank you.
